I loved going to this restaurant, but on June 27 I ate there, took my leftovers home and to my surprise I found a bug in my food. Although the food is very delicious here I will never go back again! This is my first time ever finding a bug in my food and I am so disgusted. I really hate that this happened because I truly enjoyed coming here, but unsanitary restaurants are not acceptable.

Oh, I so wanted to like this place. The ambiance was modern and interesting. The bar was backlit with red lights and the minimal décor was calming. So the place was fine. The food, however, was very different. To be fair, if we had ordered differently, I probably would have loved the entire experience. We wanted to try authentic Chinese food, so we resisted the temptation to order from their American Chinese menu. We read the cold chicken with Chilis was a great appetizer, so we ordered it. The flavors in the sauce, cabbage, and cilantro reminded me of the Thai spring rolls at Wok N Roll, our favorite local place for Thai. But my first strip of chicken was ONLY fat and gristle. I was careful to peel the fat from subsequent bites and feel for gristle, but 1 of three bites still had it. So it ruined my desire to keep trying. My husband, who is more adventurous than I, didn’t eat more than a few bites himself, so it wasn’t just me. I wanted a spicy beef dish. The waiter highly encouraged me to get curried beef after I shared this. I did, which doesn’t say a lot for my ordering ability as I knew what curry was and felt more in the mood for a traditional Chinese style beef dish(Like Mongolian beef maybe). My husband ordered fish in spicy sauce. The presentation of all dishes were great. Especially his, as it came in a silver bowl with flames underneath. But it was like a fish stew with big pieces of boiled fish in a spicy red sauce. Not bad, but I couldn’t get into it and we had a lot left over. The curry beef was fine. Again, it wasn’t what I was in the mood for so it was disappointing, but that was my own fault. The other appetite killer came as we were waiting for the check. I saw a large roach crawling on the wall a few feet from me. I know roaches are everywhere, but it’s not often I see them in the dining room at restaurants. If we go back, I will stick to the American Chinese side. If you like traditional Chinese food, which I realize now I do not, this could be the place for you. Just watch out for the roaches.

They have great food with a regular Chinese food menu and a American Chinese food menu. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken it was great the portion was HUGE but I was satisfied and stuffed. The service is average but not terrible and the atmosphere is pretty good. I would recommend eating here.

Place looks great, but food not so great. How to tell if a place is Authentic Chinese? If they serve your table with a complimentary pot of tea and soup. Also when your table is given an entire pot of rice to eat. Not here! My gf and I wanted to split an order of salt and pepper squid entrée but our waiter insisted we ordered two servings as one was very small. So when our order came, we got two massive plates! We were blatantly lied to and up sold unnecessarily. Not only that, each dish came with a tiny bowl of rice. To add insult, the way this dish was prepared was unforgivable. I’ve had this dish at least 20 different ways from many restaurants but this place made it the worst. It was as if the chef had only knew how to cook american style chinese food and never knew how to do this dish, and tried to reconstruct it. Disaster! Hardly any meat and the batter used was terrible. After finishing our small portion of rice and we decided to pack the food to go. The next day, I had planned on having the left over for a meal but when it came time, I just threw it out. Didn’t want to relive this monstrosity of a dish.

We still go here all the time and love bringing guests. Although it’s not authentic honest, the coconut shrimp is SOSOGOOD. And the Peeking duck is a fantastic meal to share. The service is good and always willing to offer suggestions. Love it!

It was the first time trying this place out. It was terrible experience which I don’t think this restaurant deserves to get a rating of 4.5.

Food was excellent! Very authentic. Service was great! Server let us try a dish the employees were having because it looked interesting. Nice atmosphere in a tucked away strip mall. We will be back!

Food was pretty good but service sucked! Went without a drink the entire meal and they never checked in on us!

Absolutely fantastic. Great service, warm and friendly. The ingredients were top quality. The spicy food was the right balance between being truly spicy, but not overpowering. The shrimp fried rice was loaded with shrimp.

Yea folks — it’s true. I was really skeptical, but this place is actually quite good. I(and I imagine most people writing these reviews) don’t know anything about authenticity, but I’ve eaten enough Szechuan to know when the sauces are homemade(and not out of a can), when the spices are balanced(even when hot), when the ingredients are fresh, and when there is actual care put into the food. Most(non-Korean) Asian places in this town fail on all those things. Wooden Chopsticks succeeds on all counts. What I liked: the twice-cooked pork(excellent), the dumplings(very good), and dan dan noodles(quite good — it’s called something else on the menu though). The beef dish we tried was ok, but I would love to see a Szechuan cumin beef on the menu in the future. And the staff is friendly and wants to help, so you don’t quite know what to order, or are a bit intimidated by the menu, they’ll help you out.

I just discovered this place, it’s not the best location but it was a great find that I’m so happy I tried! I love the cold chicken in chili sauce and I normally don’t go for any spicy food at all. Well worth a try.

It is NOT authentic Szechuan food. It is Americanize Chinese food, might be Asian fusion food. Their entries names do sound like authentic though. The service is good though.

Great food and atmosphere. I regret playing it safe and ordering the American entrees. Next time we will definitely be venturing out with more traditional fare. Can’t wait to try it again.

Fantastic and as others have mentioned very authentic. The décor is nice and I’m sure it will be hopping once they get their liquor license. The service was great as well. Definitely our new go-to for Chinese food!

Great authentic food but at the same time willing to make it to your taste. We had the Hot Pot and the broth was spot on and the ingredients were all fresh. Waiter was very nice and attentive and the owners take time to talk to you and make sure things are great. You really can’t go wrong here. Hope they last a long time auburn desperately needed an authentic Chinese joint and this is it!

Just ate here for the first time tonight. What a phenomenal addition to the Auburn dining scene! Service was impeccable. Friendly, attentive, and very interested in us having a great experience. We were quickly steered towards the more authentic Chinese dishes(they do have an Americanized section if that’s your thing). Noodle with Minced Meat Sauce is a cold noodle dish with a fermented bean paste and minced meat sauce with a very unique and delicious flavor profile. Double-Cooked Pork is a hearty pork and vegetable dish whose flavor was similar to a bulgogi but with a nice crust on the outside. Szechuan Beef is served with vegetables in a thin, very spicy, and somewhat sweet chili oil sauce. We’re hearty eaters and we still had 50% of the dishes to take home. I would be absolutely thrilled to go back and get exactly the same items, but we will definitely be exploring the menu more.

This place is great. Steamed dumplings are best in Auburn. Pad Thai is great. Double cooked pork is the real-deal(get extra mushrooms). Can’t wait to eat here a third time and try more great food.

Newest chinese place in town. Most of the menu is authentic stuff. I’m amazed this opened in auburn! We had their hotpot and it was absolutely on point. Service was good, food was good and the price was reasonable. They don’t yet have a liquor license, but allow byob.
