This is one of my favorite places for a quick meal near campus. All of the ingredients are as fresh as can be, everyone who works there is extremely friendly, and it’s super fast and inexpensive! My absolute favorite sandwich is the vietnamese meatball, and I would highly recommend double meat, it makes for a much more filling and delicious sandwich. I’ve also tried the sausage with double meat and an egg on top which was absolutely wonderful. Also, I have just about the pickiest roommate in the world, and she swears they have some of the best egg rolls she’s ever had. I haven’t tried them myself, but if she approves, then I guarantee they are delicious. They make a pretty great Thai tea as well, but they also have a decent selection of interesting Asian beverages. There’s a grass jelly drink, a soymilk drink, and a couple of other different choices. I’ve tried a couple of them(pretty good) and I would say go for it if you’re feeling adventurous, you can do a sandwich-eggroll-drink combo for $ 6 which is a great deal! Last thing: Download the Stampt app to use here if you have an iPhone(maybe for Androids too?). It basically works like those punch cards for buy 10, get 1 free, but it’s on your phone so you don’t have to keep track of it, which is super convenient!

I’ve been here a handful of times and have felt in the past as if I don’t know if a light baguette is worth spending money for me, but there have been times when I’ve been craving one and that’s when I really appreciate this place. Thanks to a trip to Lulu B’s, where I ended up paying around $ 9 for a baguette and bubble tea, I’ve been thankful for the $ 3.25 sandwiches here and around $ 6 combos. I especially love that they carry Miss Vickie’s kettle chips because I’m a total chip addict that needs some with every meal. The only con for me is that I’m not too hot about the store(it doesn’t exactly make me want to chill inside), and sitting outside on the curb tables is a little odd since there’s so much open space there(as opposed to between 21−24th on the Drag). The shop is so small anyway that it’s more of a take-out for me. Great place! As for the sandwiches, they’ve definitely improved their bread since first opening, although their baguettes could be a little bigger. =) Definitely recommend.

Who does not like Vietnamese Sandwiches?! I don’t even remember what the group all order but it was way to delicious. Some of my friends had never had any and the guy who took order was kind enough to let everyone try small pieces of the meat. Super nice guy! The drag itself does not have many places where you can get the sandwhiches so its in a great location. Food is made fresh, right in front of you. The only thing is the resturant is very very tiny. Its not made to fit large groups. But other than that its great

I am Vietnamese and I find myself eating here quite often. Not because it is particularly authentic — one is hard pressed to find such a place in Austin — but because I can find a good, solid sandwich for a very, very good price. The bread could use a little less density and a little more crisp, but the flavors inside are pretty spot on. I am particularly grateful that the pickled carrots are not overly sweet, a problem with almost every other place in Austin. I generally get the number one combo, with paté. This last bit you have to mention or they won’t put paté on your sandwich, supposedly because most Americans are unfamiliar with the ingredient. But honestly, you cannot get that sandwich without paté. Also, I appreciate the large selection of Vietnamese drinks. And though it may not look it, the seating outside during good weather is actually really, really nice.

When searching for food on the Drag that will accommodate my tiny wallet, there are only so few restaurants that will make a student happy. Bite Mi is at the top of that list for me. I love that I can spend just $ 4 for a quality meal. With $ 6, I can get a combo that includes a spring roll(love the shrimp one) or chips and a drink — still cheaper than buying just the sandwich at Potbelly or Which Wich. Although most people love the char-grilled pork, the cold cuts(combination) or the tofu banh mi, my personal favorite is the MEATBALL sandwich. It’s really juicy and flavorful! I also stop there for drinks sometimes like the awesome Thai tea or black tea.

This is better than a lot of Vietnamese joints I’ve been to in NorCal and Houston. And given their large ChinaTowns, that’s saying a LOT. I can’t stay away from their chargrilled pork sandwich, which they fill with fresh veggies. I do wish they had vietnamese fish sauce that other authentic vietnamese sandwich places have, but they do have Siracha(or «cock sauce») which I like to load onto my entire meal. Their spring rolls are so… delightful, for lack of a better word. They’ve got leaves of mint that are not too strong, but make a statement in an otherwise-bland springroll. I don’t know what else there is to say. I’m such a huge fan of this place, and their service is great. When you have a second between ordering your meal and receiving it, stop and chat with the owner — he’s very cool, and a huge sweetheart.

I’ve been a longtime fan of this place. For $ 6 combo price you can get any sub on the menu, a egg roll/spring roll, and a Vietnamese canned drink or soda. Their char-grilled pork sub is by far the best sub on the menu. Their spring roll is mediocre so I usually get the egg roll. For an additional $ 1.25 you can upgrade your drink to a Thai tea with tapioca. Their tapioca drinks are as delicious as it gets in Austin. Service is lovely and quick and their atmosphere is casual, perfect for students grabbing lunch between classes. Please try Bite Mi! Remember to get their #2 Char-grilled pork sub!

Austin is somewhat lacking in the Vietnamese population. In turn, there is not much Vietnamese fare to go around. But… there seems to be a dense pocket of Asian eateries at the Southern end of the drag. Bite Mi fits right in, providing a simple menu of rolls and sandwiches. Oh, and beverages. Not much else in the way of offerings. I do appreciate no-frills menus, and BM caters to that. Unfortunately, the layout of the establishment is a bit cramped. The large tables only seat 4, and they are stacked right up to the wall and right behind the bar seating. Eek. Furthermore, the ordering line is just uncomfortably tight. Another aspect of sandwich joints that I respect is a simple numbering system. No crazy names, just the necessity of memorizing that the #1 is all the fixins’, the #2 is straight up pork, and the #whatever is chicken. Just do not tweet the menu, or it will pop up on whoever created the title 1, 2, whatever. The pork one is probably the most ordered simply because people love sweet, grilled, Asian pork. The most traditional may be the one, #1, with a now-extinct slather of pâté. The pork is grilled nicely. The vegetables are fresh. But the bread is somewhat lacking; it has only a slight crunch, and the inside is almost too soft, dancing with almost sogginess after you put on that mayo. If you need a quick«Bite» passing through or are in the area for a expedited lunch, Bite Mi would serve you well. Nothing fancy, just fast and convenient. Check it out, but do not expect to hold a business meeting here…

I hiked all the way from Thompson Conference Center clear across UT(diagonally — which is over a mile, BTW) to get to Bite Mi. I really needed something to spice up my lunch break from a finance professional development seminar. Crunch warm bread. Great fresh cilantro, pickled turnip and carrot and cukes. Plenty of meat filling. And they even put green onion — something I don’t usually see on other banh mi around town. My request for no butter/mayo was graciously accommodated. And here’s the killer part — they’ll even fry an egg and stick it in the sandwich for an extra 50 cents. I LOVE that. Authentic? I have no idea. Delicious? Oh, yeah.

Cheap. I got the grilled pork banh sandwich to go and found it tender and delicious. I will definitely be getting take out from here again.

This is one of the most satisfying cheap meals near campus. I lived in San Francisco for a couple of years and a good Bahn-mi is a personal staple. For Texas, this place is pretty darn close to perfect. The meat is tender and flavorful, the pickled veggies are perfect, and the raw jalapenos are the perfect amount of spicy. They have a combo meal that comes with a sandwich, shrimp spring roll, and drink for 6.50. Awesome! And, if you’re not that hungry, then the sandwich alone starts around 3.50(depending on the type). I’ve only had the grilled pork sandwich, but it’s so delicious I don’t want to try anything else. The only reason that I’m not giving 5 stars is that the bread is a little soft compared to others I’ve had. It is a crusty french loaf, but I’m use to a slightly more chewy bread that is a little less fluffy. Nothing major, it certainly doesn’t detract from the sandwich. Service is quick and polite, and bar seating is perfect for one person and a good book. I go there almost once a week… is there such a thing as Bahn-mis anonymous?

The sandwiches have improved a lot, so I wanted to update my previous review. I love that its an overstuffed sandwich — lots of meat and other fixings. Seems like the quality is better too. As others have mentioned, its an amazing value on the combo.

I actually really liked the banh mi sandwiches here, especially the grilled pork. The stir-fry beef I liked just a bit less. I found the bread big and fluffy, the meat flavorful and tender and moist, and the vegetables fresh and crispy. The flavor was very good. I definitely want to try some of the other sandwiches to be sure, but so far, so good. As otherwise stated, the eggroll seemed overdone and not very good. I probably wouldn’t bother with getting that again. But the combo price is crazy good at 5.00 for a sandwich, eggroll or chips, and a drink(I tried something very authentic, just to challenge myself — a grass jelly soda). The parking situation is sketchy on Guadalupe. But it’s far enough off the heart of the drag to open up some parking. And since it’s so close to home, I’ll definitely be back!

Went here the other day because I had a coupon for 50% of from and because UT is out and I like to try places that I wouldn’t go to when there are 50,000 people walking around aimlessly. I go up to the counter and I am asked would I like to order to eat in or to go. Well, it is pretty sparse in there and the air didn’t seem to be working very well. 104 degrees outside and 90 degrees inside so I opted to go. I ordered the meatball bahn mi and and egg roll and a can soda. It was $ 5 but with the 50% off discount is was $ 2.44? Whatever. I got the food home, pulled it out and strategically place it on a plate for the photo op. The Bahn Mi itself was much larger than I expected. The bun was crispy on the outside and softer in the middle. The meat had a really nice flavor but as others suggested I put some sriracha on it. I like spicy food. The egg roll was quite disappointing. It was burned and serve with the same peanut sauce you put on the spring rolls. Not my cup of tea. For $ 2.44 I was pretty impressed. Secret is that I have never had a Bahn Mi before. Pretty tasty! Part of that was because of the obnoxious people that had the Bahn Mi truck on Food Network’s Food Truck Wars that almost won.

If I wouldn’t have had to wait so long for my sandwich, I would give this place 4 stars. That being said, for lunch(or dinner) you can pop in here and get a sandwich, a «side»(egg roll, spring roll, or chips), and a drink for $ 5. Not too shabby! I got the tofu sandwich and a vegetarian spring roll. Both were really tasty, and came with a peanut dipping sauce for the spring roll which I also dunked pieces of my french bread into. Close to my work and fairly cheap. Seems like reason enough to return for me!

Went there with a friend for a light dinner and it was awesome! The place is a bit dirty and under maintained and service isn’t great… but the food is extremely good! My friend had the seemingly most popular chargrilled pork and he said it was delish. I had the tofu mi and added sriracha and absolutely loved it! Size is perfect for lunch or a light dinner. The bread was toasted right there and super crunch and yet soft inside. They use a lot of ingredients and there’s a picture showing the layers so you can take out stuff that you don’t want. Prices are unbeatable — $ 3.5−3.75/mi. They also have the $ 5 combo which i highly recommend — a vietnamese roll that my friend had was shrimp and they have a variety of yummy Chinese canned drinks to choose from! Overall a great eat and i will totally go again. I can see it getting very packed once fall semester starts though.

I was actually skeptical about eating here since I dont like to order Vietnamese food in a town where theres not a lot of Vietnamese people. However, I wanted a quick bite to eat and my hubby heard it was good. The sandwiches were of pretty good quality. My hubby loves how the cilantro and green onions were chopped up right in the sandwich. It gave it an even«bite» and you didnt pull out the entire strand of cilantro in other sandwiches. My favorite part was probably the spring roll. Scratch that, the sauce was yummy, very flavorful. I would prefer to give 3 ½ stars because Im not a fan, but it was slightly better than A-OK. The guy at the front was nice, too. When I went back to get drinks, he adjusted the cost so that I had the«combo» price rather than charging me as if the drinks were a separate order.

I got the beef banh mi because I’ve been eating beef banh mi for lunch once a week for the last year while living in Boston, and this banh mi did not hold up. The bread tasted like it came from a supermarket — bland and stale. There were about two, two-inch long strips of vegetables on the beef, plus a little mayo, and a ton of black pepper. It kind of tasted like a banh mi, but mostly it just tasted like black pepper on a stale roll. Yeah, it’s cheap, but so is every other banh mi place, and their sandwiches are tastier and larger. I really want Bite Mi to succeed so I can have banh mi in between classes, so I’ll be back to try the other sandwiches — next up, the special, followed by the pork.

I really had to smile when I heard that there was a new banh mi place in Austin called Bite Mi. And I smiled even wider when I heard that it was in central Austin. FINALLY, banh mi in a central location! So Bite Mi made the list when we went on a new restaurant tour today. Pretty good… not the best I’ve had, but I’d still rather eat one of these than most American sandwiches. We tried some spring rolls, which were tasty — nice texture, and I liked that they had fresh mint in them. The sauce that was served with them was not a traditional peanut sauce — it had peanut undertones, but there was also a plummy flavor to it that was familiar, but not in this context. The sauce was a little too thick, although that was remedied by the addition of sriracha. At $ 3.25 for three rolls, they were definitely competitively priced. The banh mi were decent. The bread was not as fresh and crusty as other banh mi I’ve had, and the bread-to-ingredients ratio was too high. But they were quite large, pretty flavorful, and certainly a deal at $ 3.25 each(admittedly on the pricey end for banh mi, but these were bigger than average — and again, a steal when compared to their American counterparts). I had a #1 combo, which features three types of ham, liver paste, and the usual ingredients(Vietnamese mayo, a carrot/daikon mix, cilantro, jalapenos). I also tasted a #2(BBQ pork), which I thought had a nice flavor. Very casual, and it’s a small place with only a few tables, so be prepared to either wait for a table or take yours to go if you’re there during a busy time. Fine for those days when you’re too lazy to haul all the way up north for your banh mi needs.
