I have been here twice and both times the food was amazing just a bit expensive but it’s worth it the location I went to was the food truck located in the back of steam punk bar downtown on 6th the food was awesome and the customer service was great.

It’s official: I have a new favorite sandwich and food obsession — the ‘Maine Event’ lobster roll from the ‘Dock and Roll’ food truck. I visited the excellent Midway Food Truck Park along the 360 and tried two of their entrees. While I’ve never tried the lobster roll at the food trucks in California(too busy scarfing down all the excellent Dungeoness Crab), I have eaten them at the more venerable institutions in NYC/Long Island and parts of New England. This is as good if not better, and to add a cherry on top there is a side that blows cole slaw away out here in Austin. I’d actually recommend this place to people who dislike lobster due to having it ‘rubbery’ or ‘overdone’ in a restaurant — Dock and Roll might very well turn their opinions around. The ‘Maine Event’ I had the fortune to consume is a generous amount of perfectly cooked lobster meat tossed with chives and a ghosting of mayo. I say ‘ghosting’ because if there’s one thing that will ruin a lobster roll, it’s an overabundance of mayonnaise. Whoever is making the house mayo is blending in something very subtle, probably a slightly different oil or sauce added to the mix — whatever it is, it’s excellent. Of special mention is the lightly toasted split top roll they serve it in; it’s as important a component as the Amoroso roll is to a Philly Cheesesteak. The superb side I mention is a serving of perfectly done, spice-dusted tater tots, which are even better than the beautiful specimens served up at The Republic of Sandwich. I was even more pleased to know that this is not an ‘add on’ option for an extra charge — they can be served on request instead of the usual cole slaw. While the price of the sandwich is a tad high for some — it’s $ 20.70 if you include a 15% tip, which you really should — given the market price for claw meat and the labor involved to deliver such an excellent product, it’s worthwhile. For purposes of comparison, I looked up prices for lobster rolls here on Unilocal at the place I first ate one — the venerable ‘Lobster Roll’ on Long Island, NY. As of 2015, a similar roll with a side of cole slaw came to $ 27.60 including a 15% tip. So rejoice, Unilocalers — come out on a day that’s comfortable for you weather-wise, grab a table with some shade, and try something that I truly think is world class. I know that I will be back… hungry for more! This place pegs the ‘CTJ Scale’ at 5 stars, as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus’ Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn’t have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn’t have my penultimate supper here, either.

You know it’s good when you can’t stop thinking about a sandwich… The Maine Lobster Roll is sooo good. So good. Did I mention so good?! The bun was perfect — for me. I don’t care for toasted buns. This bun was the perfect density and had a sweet taste to it(but not too sweet). It was the perfect catch-all to the lobster. Fresh lobster. The dressing was spot on — not too dill-y(for lack of a better word). Not too sweet. Not runny. Like I said a perfect combination and balance with the bun. You have the option to add to the roll — bacon, etc. I didn’t bother with any extras because I’m a purest. Part of the«combo meal» is chips and slaw or tator tots. Brings me back to school lunches, but so much better. Fresh tator tots with a hint of seasoning. Oh and the ketchup is in a plastic container — no messing around with those pesky packets. Presentation — well just look at the picture. The cherry on top was the customer service which was top notch. Friendly. Outgoing. I’ll be back. I’d probably go back tonight if it wasn’t closed. I’ll be dreaming of you tonight lobster roll… mmmm.

Delicious lobster roll! This place is a food truck in a park with other food trucks. You get a decent amount of lobster in your roll and the rolls are delicious. I ordered tater tots instead of the chips and they were really yummy. Crunchy outside and tender inside. Only problem was there was only one guy working so it took awhile to get the food.

Good lobster rolls(not as good as in LA), but pricey! Every time I’m there, I end up spending $ 50. $ 50…at a food truck! I mean I’ll get a lobster roll($ 18 — I go for Connecticut because I like mine warm, with melted butter and not with mayo), crab croquettes($ 7, special of the day) and lobster mac and cheese($ 7 – 9) and a coke. The sides are never as good as the roll, so maybe I just need to stick with the roll. Lobster roll comes with a bag of chips and some cole slaw. Then their tip section — it’s all 15% and above. I think choices are 15%, 20% and 25%, then custom amount. I guess I could just click custom, but you want us to tip you an extra $ 5 – 10 on top of $ 40 for 3 things for a food truck? I know it’s hot in there, but it’s as pricey as going to a restaurant for seafood. So yes, I’ll get it every once in a while, especially because the other options at Midway Food Trailer Park are Thai(not so great), Italian, and tacos(which are everywhere in Austin). They also have a $ 5.50 fried bacon sandwich which is pretty good(you just might feel bad about yourself later)…

The tater tots are a large portion and delicious! I had the lobster roll sans butter and it was very good but difficult to eat. I was sad when a few large beautiful pieces of lobster fell to their dirt death below me. I wish they had more of a kids menu or smaller/more affordable options for kids. Their only option to us at the time was a hot dog which we passed on. I’ll also note that their prices seem very high. I understand the lobster and more expensive ingredient items on the menu being higher but in general the menu was pretty pricey to me for the potion you get(except the tater tots!).

All of the trailers off 360 in that little area kinda confuse me because most of the time I come around on off hours which is when no one is around, and the times of the trailer park are super vague like«we open when we open». Maybe that’s not exactly what it says but WHATEVER! My husband and I came by here on a freaking freezing day and no one was around, but little Dock and Roll Diner had a sign saying it was open and there was a very attractive sweet young man behind the window! win! hahaha, anyway. I’ve always wanted to try this place, and always wanted to try a lobster roll! The lobster roll looked grand. That guy put all his heart and soul into making it and wrapped it up all pretty and they even have an adorable Dock and Roll sticker to seal the sandwich! Yay. There was a TON of meat and the tots were super duper crunchy and fantastic. Am I a fan of lobster rolls? Nope. I’ve decided that I prefer lobster hot and not messed with, but this guy did an amazing job, they have a fantastic sandwich that I’m sure many people like. Overall the experience was pretty cool, and I’d prob come back to try the hot roll. p. s. like everyone else says, it is expensive… but they’re putting a ton of lobster on it.

So I have been trying to call all numbers listed to place an order but either the phone is off or they just plain don’t answer. They have listed as open at 11am then on the voicemail says 11:30, which one is it??? Really frustrated right now because we were really looking forward to eating a lobster roll

I’ll start off by saying I have driven by Dock and Roll on south 1st a million times and have never once felt the need or want to stop and try it. BUT my best friend and I were out«passbooking» and we decided to hit up the midway food trailer park for the mini cheese cakes(a different review). We were hungry and Dock and Roll was right next to us and in the pass book so we figured why not. OHMYGOSHITWASAWESOME. We went in expecting nothing but now I am so obsessed. It was great! We got the traditional and I like things spice so the guy working gave me their spice sauce on the side(so good!) Slaw normally scares me but theirs is amazing! It was a perfectly filling meal and the lobster was buttery and tasted fresh(totally not like chewy, old, cheap lobster). Best choice ever to stop there and now I know I have one close by on south 1st!

One of the greatest benefits of my work is getting to sample so much amazing food and hearing the stories behind how and why it came to be! I spoke with Adam from Dock & Roll the other day and became privy to a secret item available only at The Midway location. He told me how Alex was working on a hot dog concoction. They took hot dogs and battered them in their shiner beer batter, fried them, and then topped them with their remoulade slaw. All served in their signature rolls with a side of homemade chips. Let me tell you that was probably the best hot dog I’ve ever had in my life! Those flavors all together were heavenly! I could taste a spicy mustard, which was great with the hot dog but then got the slaw with a tinge of sour cream, pickles and all things that make their slaw so outstanding. None of it was too heavy in any flavor so they all just blended together for happy goodness. Those chips too… amazing…and a perfect compliment! That roll is fantastic! I was blown away! After my first bite I asked Adam if I could write a review, grabbed my phone for a picture and decided I needed to tell the world! He happily gave me permission but asked that I mention it’s a secret menu item(so you have to be in the know ;)) and that it is ONLY available at The Midway location(their other trailers won’t have it and the staff might not be aware if you ask). Everything Dock & Roll does is amazing… but this hot dog tho! Thanks Adam!

Incredible. My wife and I were in town on vacation and happened to pass by midway food park. We turned around to check it out. All looked good but we settled on dock and roll. So glad we did. The lobster roll was great. She got the shrimp love-boy which was incredible. The slaw wasn’t like normal slaw — had pickles and great taste. Will get that on any roll or po-boy next time. The tots have incredible seasoning on them. MAKESURE to ask to the Feta Ranch to dip them in. Great service too. Nice guys. From now on, we won’t come to ATX without stopping here.

«I’ll take the $ 9 lunchbox.» I told Bubba the seemingly street saavy tatted cashier. ½ a lobster roll, tater tots($ 1 upgrade) and cole slaw, at first seemed economical, but after a drink and tip the $ 14 tab was a bit of a sting. The half lobster roll was luscious, meaty, with just enough butter, and an unsoggy fresh roll. I wish I would’ve ordered the whole one. Tater tots were ordinary, cole slaw just a little overly salty. The midway trailer park off 360 in Westlake is in an unusually tony and green location, has a playground for kids, and a stage with live music on the weekends. Good for families or quick sustenance after a green belt river swim, but not a destination,

This was a tasty Maine lobster roll. $ 15 is a hefty price but it was outstanding and well, for Maine Lobster, a fair price & quantity, and superbly prepared. I ate from a competitor before and it was $ 2 more and not as good as this one. This is all i had at this truck, but there are much less expensive eating options that other customers enjoyed while I was sitting under Adelbert’s Patio. The Dock & Roll truck was out at Adelbert’s Brewery on a Saturday and combined with the great beer … Amazingly delicious. The owner was preparing the rolls and the other ‘waiter’ were both super friendly, upbeat and helpful! Thanks guys! Keep the quality and sufficient quantity up at this price point.

I forgot the name of the roll but I’ve dreamt about it since. It’s the crab roll with slaw on a buttery toasted roll. Oh mah gah it was good. I had it at Midway, after one of those and a couple glasses of Chardonnay I was a happy girl, it was a good Saturday.

Lobster roll was very tasty, and the habanero hot sauce has a good kick to it. The slaw was bland, though thankfully it was at least very light on the mayo. Overall though, it just seems a bit too expensive($ 15 for a roll). Knocking down review from 4 stars to 3 stars because of the high price.

If you love lobster, you’ll love this place! Great trailer food comes by only every few miles or so here in Austin, so make sure to fill up as much as possible! Had a few different of their rolls, they all had great lobster. The bread is really soft and tasty. All for some of the hot sauce, why not– you’re in Texas, not New England! The tater tots were awesomely crisp. And the coleslaw was light and crunchy, would’ve made a great lobster salad. This Midway location had easy parking, if you go early enough. And there are a bunch of picnic tables with nice shade and lots of other choices if someone doesn’t want lobster. This is a must stop on any trailer food tour of Austin.
