This wonderful little food truck gets 4 stars only due to the fact that a restaurant would have to be transcendent to ever earn a 5 star review from this eater. That being said, I highly recommend stopping by this joint to get your fix of innovative yet still traditional Cajun food. My father grew up in Baton Rouge and a large smattering of my family still lives there so I spent a good portion of my youth in and around the capitol city of Louisiana. This at the very least educated me in the not so subtle differences between good and bad Cajun food. This place delivers the former. I ordered the fried shrimp and grits balls and they were unlike anything I’ve ever eaten but very familiar at the same time. I also ordered my staple go-to, fried Catfish poboy. If you can’t make a tasty one of these I will not be coming back(spoiler alert: I’m going back!). The shrimp\grits concoction was buttery and filled with I’m assuming fresh and not frozen shrimp due to their wonderful texture. The outside was perfectly lightly fried and not overly greasy. The inside was pillow soft and magnificently creamy. The shrimp perfectly cooked and added a touch of sweetness to the dish to counteract the extravagantly buttery little corn pearls. On to the po’boy. The catfish was fried just the way I like it! Smothered in corn meal and ever so lightly fried, so I can taste the fish and not just greasy soggy batter. It came with the staples: tomato, lettuce, mayo, soft po’boy roll. It was covered in a delicious sauce very similar to tartar but not exactly. I’ll ask next time if they put cream of tartar in their sauce(if they’ll even tell me!). The po’boy comes with a side and I chose potato salad, and I’m glad I did. It’s up there with the best potato salad I’ve ever had, at least in recent memory. It’s what I believe is referred to as «German Style”(aka mustard based). Perfectly cooked potatoes, tangy with a little spicy kick. Nice crunch from celery and relish. The woman I ordered from told me she was part owner and was very friendly. The food came out very quickly even though it’s made to order. I highly recommend giving these fine folks some of your money next time you’re in the neighborhood. In fact gimme a call and I’ll meet you there.

Picture bottling the tears of a newborn child nostalgically remembering a fresh spring morning from a past life, mix it with crushed ice chiseled by the horns of a thousand billy goats from the finest mountain spring, and then make that taste like potato salad. Next, a succulent variety of meat items so tender and precious, Debeers is likely to file a lawsuit for selling rare gems without paying them reseller fees. Next, slowly lower the Wizard potato concoction into the oblivion of meat warmth while fondly thinking of brisk Autumn mornings. And you shall call it… gumbo. The catfish isn’t bad either.

As a Cajun, I was excited to try this trailer. We ordered the cajun egg rolls, I got the catfish and my fiancé ordered the catfish poboy. Then we had beignets for dessert. We were trying to over-indulge and we did just that. Everything was really good, but I had originally ordered blackened catfish but was told they couldn’t blacken anything that day. I think that the person working wasn’t supposed to be alone but someone must have called in sick or something. She was really nice and informed us it would be a longer than normal wait, which we were fine with. I hope to go back and check it out when they are blackening food. :)

Finally stopped by this place for lunch, and am a bit surprised by how good the reviews are! I will say that it’s nestled in a cute locale and the people inside are very nice and helpful. However the food was horrible, and the people raving about it have obviously not eaten in Louisiana. I got the shrimp po-boy and while I’ll say the only thing good was the bread. The sauce they put on it was horrible and pickles who puts pickles on a po-boy. A good po-boy in LA only has lettuce, mayonaise and a tomatoes and that’s all it needs. The beignets were very heavy and way to doughy. I was very dissappointed in the food as I had hope to find a hidden gem for cajun food in Austin. I will more than likely not eat here again. Besides they are very over priced.

I’ve grown up eating fried fish and this place, as far as Austin is concerned, holds the title for best fish in town! Friendly staff, food is quick to deliver, and serving sizes are more than enough. They recently started selling lil nuggets servings of their fish which in my opinion are the ideal size. Make a stop if you haven’t, you’ll be glad you did!

Some friends and I double dated on Valentine’s Day and decided to take the South First trailer park up on their offer of two meals for $ 30 with offerings from all of the trailers. I had been wanting to try Nettie’s Place for a long time, but never seemed to be able to make it over there. Let me just say, it was worth the wait! We tried a lot of different things… starting with the corn fritters and the fried okra. Both freaking delicious. The corn fritters are so good… crunchy on the outside and sweet/salty on the inside. The fried okra was perfectly cooked… I’m a little bit of a fried okra snob. I had the catfish and shrimp for my meal. It’s weird when you go to a trailer because I automatically have lower expectations because of the limited space they have for cooking. Nettie’s Place blew my expectations straight out of the water. The catfish and shrimp were great quality and cooked to perfection. Then here comes this orange sauce(I have yet to figure out what it was) that I couldn’t help but dip everything into. It was good on the seafood, but it was even better on the sweet potato fries. They were probably the best sp fries I’ve ever had. And that sauce! We had their king cupcakes for dessert. Really… you can’t go wrong when you make a cinnamon roll into a cupcake and frost it. I was so happy with our dinner and the service was friendly and fast. They’ve got a really great system going where even though most everyone showed up at the same time to take part in the dinner, they were never lagging behind on the food distribution. Can’t wait to go back and try the gumbo with potato salad!!!

Mmm we discovered this trailer park recently and finally decided to visit a few weeks ago. I looked over all the trailers and the purple cajun one stood out, obviously so I tried it first. Just looking at Nettie’s made we want to eat some gumbo and a king cake. It absolutely screams New Orleans. So i got the fried catfish, cuz I kind of love fried food. The catfish and fries were very crispy and cooked just right. That sauce they give you with your food was very strange but holy crap was it good. I have no clue what was in it but it was an orangish color and had a nice kick. I intend to go back and try more things immediately. Food in general is awesome from a trailer, but I think cajun food has a special place in the food trailer world. It’s just good.

Ill start out by mentioning the awesome service! Super nice lady cooked and served right to us and food was awesome. I haven’t had catfish that crispy in a super long time. The shrimp n grits balls were delish. Also which is very rare especially for food truck, they’re ice tea was awesome and cleansing after there tangy remoulade. Only thing wasn’t a fan of was the fries but no biggie after everything else hand cut fries is very timely on top of all the other prep she has to do!

If you claim to be serving Cajun food, don’t forget the spice! I cannot understand the rave reviews. I had the catfish and the gumbo. The catfish was okay. Nothing special. Some pieces were soggy. The batter is heavy on the cornmeal, and doesn’t crisp up properly. The fries served with it were substandard. Like bargain brand Costco frozen fries, full of inch long remnants. Perhaps the sweet potato fries are better. I didn’t try them. Most disappointing was the gumbo. It was the glowing reviews of the gumbo that lured me here. Perhaps none of the gumbo reviewers have ever been to New Orleans? Two things make a great gumbo: a good roux to start with, and plenty of spice. Neither was apparent here. This was one of the blandest, most flavorless gumbos I have ever tasted. It did have plenty of sausage and chicken in it, but hopelessly lacking in flavor. Adding insult to blandness, fully half of the large bowl of gumbo was taken up by the layer of white rice in the bottom. A scoop of rice is expected, but not half by volume.

You need to Geaux HERE!!! Apparently the the food truck craze is bigger than just Southern California… Not only is it bigger… but it may be even better. I don’t eat southern food often, but when I do, I appreciate authentic southern… since my mother was born and raised in the wonderful southern states I grew up with many of these flavors at my very own table. However, my wife, as a native Californian does not have the knack for southern seasoning and flavors… So there were options but I was bias to the obviously cajun inspired wagon… had some fried green tomatos and and catfish po boy… frickin’ amazing. The big easy salad was looking good, but I was not able to continue on. I highly recommend this joint, some of the best food I have had, let alone cajun southern cooking. Next time I am in Austin, I will be hitting this place up again…

I went there for dinner Saturday night and was very happy with the food. My wife and I split a cup of gumbo and I got the 4 piece catfish dinner. The gumbo was amazing, with lots of chicken and sausage. The catfish pieces were huge and perfectly fried with a delicious cornmeal coating. I got the four piece, but would have been very happy with the 3 piece dinner. The dinner came with a chunky potato salad that was delicious and had lots of boiled egg in it which I really liked. Aside from the food — I really liked this little food trailer court. There was great old Rock-n-Roll playing, people sitting around talking and laughing, and no problem bringing a bottle of your favorite wine to enjoy with dinner. What a great dining adventure it turned out to be!

This is my favorite catfish in Austin. Fish and preparation are both remarkable. They let you get one or two extra pieces for a buck a piece. Worth it. The fried green tomatoes are top shelf. Was scared of the sweet onion relish because I generally refuse onions, but it was tasty and non-onion-y on the tomatoes. The gumbo is really, really good. With the potato salad on top. The potato salad kind of melts over the hot gumbo like a dip of ice cream. It’s wonderful. And they have sweet potato fries.

I am a big catfish person so of course it is the first thing I went for. I was completely surprised that these girls knew exactly what they were doing in the kitchen!!! The seasoning is really awesome and you can tell that they are quality cuts of fish. Now to the gumbo. I am a frequent gambler and when I make trips to Louisiana I am dying for gumbo and étouffée. Ain’t no power shortage in Flavortown when it comes to a bowl of this swamp dish! Anytime I have family in town(who loves catfish also) I always make sure to tell them about the goodness…
