A cool little place to grab some tri tip and mesquite grilled chicken, not expensive either. Way better than El Pollo Loco

This place is amazing, their chicken and tri-tip plates are the best. Really easy/simple and no frills, just solid food.

Chicken and Tri-tip(mix) burrito was great salsa had good flavor and was moderately priced, I will eat there again. Similar to El Pollo Norteno that used to be on Niles st.

You ever see one of those lunch-time Taco Trucks? Now imagine their leftovers at the end of the week being re-heated, and served in the cafeteria of a 3rd World elementary school. Congratulations, you’ve just imagined what it’s like to eat here.

Cheap grub! Thinly sliced tir-tip plainly seasoned. El pollo loco type chicken. Sides are nothing special. The do have horchata. Prices are reasonable. The atmosphere leads you to believe that you’re about to be whacked at any point. Get your food and get out as quickly as possible. With that being said, it usually is one of our«last resort» type fast food.

Got the chicken and tri-tip combo(#7), comes with beans, salsa and tortillas. Salsa was kind of flavorless but tolerable. Beans tasted good as well as the chicken and tri-tip. All in all, good and would come back.

I have no idea why I love this place as much as I do… the tri-tip and beans have very little flavor, the rice is a little greasy, the salsa tastes watery, but throw it all together on a tortilla and I can’t stop eating it! It’s not that expensive, but when I don’t quite want to spend the five bucks I just order a few sides for two bucks and get my fix that way.

bought two bakersfield california daily deal certificates to try this place out on the cheap. pretty much a toned down, independent version of el pollo loco. the chicken is very good, heavyly marinated to turn it yellow. good flavor, a little on the dry side, suspect that is due to the marinade that is probaly full of salt. rice and beans are ok. haven’t tried any other sides. my son loves his chicken quesidilla, it was greasy, but tasted very good. The trip tip, both times I asked for the pinkest piece I could get, both times I got home and found well done pieces, however it was still very tender and flavorful. I dont think this place is more than a 3* joint, but I would say the service I received one night deserves a mention, the door indicates the place closes at 8pm, I walked in at 8:06 or so and the guy behind the counter was very happy to serve me, he did say the fryer was off so couldn’t make a taquito, but besides that he took care of me with no attitude as one may possibly get elsewhere under the same conditions… I would stop in again for a grilled chicken fix.

I tried this place when it just opened and unfortunately I came down with food poisoning. I tried and tried to pretend it wasn’t because of El pollo Charro, but it was the only food I had that day. I had a combo plate and I’m positive it was undercooked chicken that did me in. I hope they’ve stepped up their food quality, because I hate giving negative comments.

It’s a very simple place. I think it is well worth it’s price though. If you’re going here looking for a high-end restaurant or something extra special, I think you’ll be wasting your time. If you like Mexican food and grilled or barbecued food, then this might be the place for you. They offer some tasty tri tip and chicken as well as beans, rice, and tortillas. I’ll be going back.

Chicken and tri tip was good. My boyfriend prefered the tri tip. Rice, beans and salsa were good. The salsa is not spicy, bit if you do prefer a spicier one they do have one on request. You get a choice of corn or flour tortillas. Everything was delicious. This is my new favorite place. Food taste great and freshly prepared.

The place is clean and freshly painted. I found the menu simply with Tri-tip and BBQ chicken being the main staple. Prices were inexpensive and the lunch special consisted of receiving a free medium drink. I ordered the Tri-tip and chicken combo and it came with your choice of flour or corn tortillas, salsa, and refried or pot beans. The tri-tip was thinly sliced and had grill marks across the face of the meat. Not sure if they grilled individually sliced pieces to reheat the meat or to complete the doneness of well done. The meat is well well done and there is no other way to get it. It was dry and tough to chew. The chicken is comparably to El Polo Loco in the traditional Mexican style orange BBQ chicken. It was also overcooked and dry. The chicken did not have much flavor and did not boast or hint of any seasoning. The salsa looked like it was suppose to be BBQ salsa; however, the salsa seemed to be stewed tomatos blended with a faint hint of cilantro. The staff was friendly and pleasant, but if the food does not become better this place will be short lived. I recommend El Pollo Norteno or Chuys before this place.
