Checkers Drive-In Restaurant

I had the chocolate shake, it was yummy. I also had the spicy chicken, I liked it. Great service, friendly and fast.

I love checkers very very lit. Best fries in the fast food department hands down. If you’ve never been to checkers before then you need to try there fries. This particular branch is good kind employees I get my food fast and always accurate. It’s set in a perfect location right across the street from a small movie theatre and a small shopping center. Whenever I come here I gotta have that number 2 baconzilla my all time favorite sandwich. Anywho my only gripe with this place is that it has no interior dining and that really blows. I prefer not to sit outside in the winter time and eat when mcdonalds is just a few blocks up with interior dining. I don’t see why checkers just doesn’t expand and make a dining area I’m sure it would increase sales anyway.

What?! A Checkers north of the Mason-​Dixon Line? And on Long Island!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes!
Yes, I couldn’t believe my eyes but there it stood in all its glory: Gleaming white edifice, dual left-​side/​right-​side drive-​throughs, checkerboard trim and just about the same greasily delicious food that if any of you have sampled this from the Checkers’ down south, I’m sure you absolutely know of the goodness about which I speak.
I got the #3 which consists of a Big Buford (their loaded up double cheeseburger with the «special sauce»), an order of the spicy fries and a drink. The burger was the sloppy, gloppy, messy, over-​the-​top, incredibly stick-​to-​your-​ribs, bundle of cholesterol that I remembered from my ravenous cravings while on gigs in FL. The fries were surprisingly delightful; crisp and hot with just the right amount of seasoning cooked in to let the balance of potato and spice shine through admirably. Ketchup on these would have been a sin. I also got a Diet Coke to compensate for the sins of the solid part of my meal.
The extra feather in their cap was they had a bathroom open to the public in this strictly drive-​through establishment. My friend had to «go» and when I imagined what his unfortunate, sit-​down experience could only end up like, I shuddered at the thought. When he got back in the car I asked him «how it was» and much to my amazement, he told me it was very clean and quite pleasant in there!
Sure hope I find myself back out there soon. Ever since I’ve had that Buford and those incredible fries, I’ve found myself once again craving them like mad when I thought I’d gotten them out of my system!

99% of Checkers food is pretty average, but it’s the FRIES that make it a standout. SO GOOD!

Yes, the fries are awesome. If they didn’t sell anything else, they’d get a better score. Why? Because everything else is pretty tasteless. Especially for fast food, I was amazed at how tasteless the meat was. Maybe that’s why it’s so cheap. Hey, if you’re broke and you just need to get something in your stomach, this place will do. If you have taste buds that work, eat somewhere else. I’m sure that pretty much anywhere else would be better.

Chili Cheese Fries!!!
I was driving home from work on a Sunday night. I had arrived on a red eye flight in the morning – to Newark! – and was exhausted. It was literally the third time I had driven my new (very used) car. A tire blew out on the Meadowbrook Parkway. I had never changed a tire by myself before, and I had to figure out how to do so with an incomplete jack, in the dark.
After it took me an hour to change the tire, I stopped at this Checkers on the way home. Like a mother kissing the scrape on my soul, the chili cheese fries and strawberry shake made everything better. The fries are seasoned and crispy, not the soggy, bland things you expect with chili cheese fries. This makes all the difference in the world. And, at about $ 2.50 they make a complete meal you will be digesting for days. The shake was also very good, but I didn’t detect any chunks of strawberry, for people who are into that. The burger was very reminiscent of a Wendy’s Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe, but not square.
I loved the chili cheese fries so much that I went and got them from different Checkers later the same week. I can attest that they taste excellent even when you’re not suicidal.

Yesterday, I went there for the first time. The drive-​through service was fast. The staff was courteous. The food was cheap. The fries, oh my goodness, were so good! I was so thrilled that I couldn’t stop eating even though my tongue got kind of burned when I took the first bite – the fries were super hot! I swear I finished those in less than 2 minutes literally with tears in my eyes!
Honestly, the quarter pound bacon cheese burger I ordered was OK. I would have given this place 5 stars if the bun of my hamburger were warmer and the beef were juicier. But overall, I wasn’t disappointed. I’ll definitely go back again very soon.
