Terrible experience in the end. My family, which included my parents, wife, sister, and 2-year-old daughter, rented this cottage on Big Star Lake for our annual August vacation. The weather was beautiful, but the cottage was slightly dingy, ceiling tiles were falling down, and the master bed must have been glued together with elmers. This last point is noteworthy because the same bed turned out to be ‘collapsible’, which may be convenient for moving day, but wasn’t that great for sleeping on. My parents slept on the floor all week! We alerted Scott, the owner of the cottage, but he did not respond, apologize for the inconvenience, or make any attempt to fix the bed. To add insult to injury, Scott and Lisa decided to charge us a back door cleaning fee by holding security deposit money. They held $ 150. Although my family and I had spent about 4 hours cleaning the place on the last day– stripping beds, sweeping and vacuuming floors, washing dishes, scrubbing the bathroom and emptying trash– they cited the fact that we left behind fingerprints on the glass door. The offense was hardly worthy of a $ 150 fee– but I suppose the owners know that out of state renters are not in a position to make a legal claim. I recommend that your family look elsewhere on the lake.
