This is a great gem. First time here and I have to say it was pretty amazing. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Hard to find in upstate NY. Had nachos and a chicken sandwich all while listening to the owner sing and play the guitar. It is somewhere I would return and tell everyone to check out! Very casual and feels like home where everyone knows everyone. It’s definitely somewhere to check out.

Staff couldn’t be friendlier. Food always takes a strangely long time but is good. It’s one of only two neighborhood restaurants, so I wish them the best. But please, guys, please please get rid of the tables covered in linoleum tiles. Nothing is less appetizing than feeling like you’re eating your meal off the kitchen floor. Getting sat at one of these is like losing the lottery. The other tables are the high polish tavern tables that give the place a cozy atmosphere. If money is an issue, check Craigslist.

5 Star Tavern. Warm, Friendly Atmosphere, Kick Ass Food! Has a pool table and darts. Live Music Thursday-Saturday. Food is awesome, highly recommend the famous herb encrusted braised Prime Rib, Homemade Flour Nachos, The Carney’s Reuben. Several Dressings are homemade which are outstanding! The service is OUTSTANDING, prices are fair. If you haven’t gotten here yet, your missing out! The owners are kick ass people too.

Okay. I hate leaving negative reviews. And when we first walked in I was very much looking forward to leaving a fantastic review. I am giving it a 2 star because the ambiance was nice and I’m sure it could be enjoyable, but with many factors in mind. We are new in town and were on our way home and wanted to try something local. We called, reserved a table, and went. We got there, the woman who seated us was very friendly and we got our menus. About 15 minutes later our server came by. We ordered drinks. 5 minutes later, we got our drinks. My Shirley temple is all cherry juice with a splash of Sprite. I ask her to pour some out and add more Sprite. So she brings me 2 glasses back. Cool, she evened out the portions and I got an extra drink. About 10 minutes after that she took our order. My husband ordered a sandwich but asked if he could get the dip with it, nor if he can get the other sandwich that comes with the dip, but add cheddar. She says sure. Cool. My oldest wants the adult menu pasta dinner ½ meatballs ½ sausage. Our server suggests the kids menu size, but it will be the same, just cheaper/smaller portion. Cool. In the mean time our youngest is getting antsy. He’s 2. They do ‘kids eat free’ on Thursday,(it was not a Thursday) so I asked if they had any coloring pages. We were brought stationary and pens. Okay fine. Youngest quickly tires of that. He’s hungry. We all are. We have been here for over half an hour already. Another 30 minutes goes by. Our server brings out the kids food, they can see they are getting antsy. By that time the youngest had had enough. I take him to the car so my husband and others kids can enjoy their food. My husband comes out about 10 minutes later, fuming. Not only, was the cheese on my chicken cold and not melted at all, they also charged us $ 3 for a side of soup(the dip for his sandwich), they also charged us extra for my sons ‘children’s portion’ because of the substitutions, so we might as well have NOT listened to the server(who insisted that was the way to go and it would be the child’s meal price) and just got him what he wanted in the first place, but they also charged us for 2 Shirley temples even though it was her mistake. $ 85 later we left hungry, very unhappy, and our first impression is far less than awesome. It’s sad because like I said, great ambiance, but very careless staff, and slow service. Sitting here now reading the other reviews, I don’t know how long this place will last, which again is sad because it has SO much potential.

Been several times since — meal service has been faster and the food is still very good. Personally, I’m a fan of the homemade chips, but I can see where others might not like them. The steaming hot fried dill pickle is always a nice touch. We went there on a Friday evening with a group from work at the end of the summer — the bar is cozy, friendly, relaxing — a nice place to gather with friends.

should have stopped when we were ahead… the calamari and quesadea were good… the house special chips were NOT. the cheese(supposed to be melted) was not… and the chicken was almost absent… NOT worth that extra $ 5.00 we were charged… nor did the waitress even flinch when I pointed out the short coming…

Maaaaaaan this place use to have the best burger and tasty wings, now it’s yuck. Poorly cooked burger and they got rid of the yummy buns toasted to perfection. Wings had good flavor but medium crispy should be exactly that… crispy. My favorite part of the encounter was the flying fingernail and the server walking into the bar area feeding her face while on shift, must be a family member so it’s all good… nom nom nom. Hey we all gotta eat but dang how tacky. Anyways that place needs a major cleanse and a new chef and I would be proud to make it my go to pub. Cmon Carnies check yourself before you wreck yourself. I want my perfect burger and wings back.

Awesome place. New owner and is really working to improve and upgrade. Lots of food choices. Have had their pizza — relish! Chicken fingers are homemade and dipped in their homemade batter. Pool table and dart board, in their own space. Best wishes for success! Will be back!

Very cool historic pub/restaurant. We met some friends there for a get together, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The live music was cool too! Drinks were great, wings smelled and looked awesome(we only came for a drink, but were sorely tempted!)

Great place! Carney’s is the perfect place to head to for a casual dinner and drink any night of the week. The restaurant, though seems like it is an old favorite of many, has a delicious, and updated menu. The calamari is a sweet and sour take on a classic. This may not seem like a big deal, but the Caesar salad is incredible! It takes a lot for me to like a Caesar since so many fail at making a good one. Carney’s is full of flavor and the croutons are delicious. Great experience here the couple times I’ve been both with the food and the awesome staff.

I am familiar with Carneys, both with the current and past ownership, and this place was an continues to be a go to place only because of its locale. I have friends who live nearby, within walking distance, so we go if we don’t feel like driving. I have been here twice since ownership changed. My most recent visit led me to my decision to place this review. First off, the food: I ordered their version of a French dip, which was served on a decent ciabatta bread. the bread was nicely grilled, the meat was tender but the serving was a three ounce portion of meat for 13.95 with a side of fresh cut fries. potatoes are roughly 1.29 a pound to a restaurant, and beef ranges anywhere from 2.95−4.95 for sirloin. A roll like the one they used is around 75 cents a portion, cheese around 30 cents a slice. At most my dish cost them $ 3 to produce, which meant almost 80 percent of the cost of my dish was going into the owners pocket. This is a crazy markup and not the industry standard. The French onion soup it came with is a negligible cost, and the portion size left me anything but satiated. For a supposedly locally focused pub this is unacceptable. As was me being served the summer shandy I ordered being served in a 12 ounce pilsner glass. Not even a full pint of a low abv beer. The place was busy and understaffed for a Friday evening, but that didn’t warrant the waitress only stopping by to assume we wanted more drinks or ask of there was anything else we wanted to buy. Both waitresses were seen several times cutting off customers navigating the dining room with no word of apology or attempt at giving way to people who were paying guests. I also question the health departments take on using peel and stick flooring tile on an eating surface, the tables throughout the dining room. I know that often times the adhesive harbors bacteria and the sealants used on the tile contain toxic chemicals not intended to be ingested. I also know the cut off chef pants the chef/owner were wearing violate state and local health and safety code. Seeing as he had time to spend in the dining room pouring wine, bussing tables, and speaking to family and friends I’d also not have expected a burger and sandwich to take an hour and a half to reach our table. Most of the other diners seemed oblivious or indifferent to the shortcomings. my guest and I were not. I don’t expect to give them another try. Take the money you overcharge and update the interior from the original owners, stop trying to make up your profit loss by overcharging and cutting portion size, and maybe I’ll try again. Until then I’ll go to villago. Sorry guys.

It was my first visit to Carney’s. The space itself is charming and the staff are all very friendly and efficient. We ordered meatball sliders — they were delicious and came with a fried pickle on top of each one, a nice and delicious surprise. We ordered the soup of the day — broccoli cheddar, and it was very good. I ordered the Tavern sandwich — which was sliced sirloin with a side of french onion soup. The bread was perfectly crispy, the sandwich was tasty. My other half ordered fish tacos that came with a kale slaw, greek yogurt, and a sriracha sauce. He was in love. The fries could have been crispier but overall the food was delicious! We both ordered drinks — they are in the $ 4 — $ 8 range. Each of our entrees were reasonably priced at approximately $ 14/plate. We will be back!

Charming atmosphere and very attentive staff. The dessert we ordered was out and the Executive Chef came out to apologize and offer an alternative on the house. Very thoughtful choices and beautiful presentation too.

Best part is that you can walk in and feel comfortable dining at whatever«level» you want. Enjoy a Reuben or a pizza with a draft … There’s a well laid-out informal pub food area for that kind of dining. Or for a table of more elegance, you can be seated in an unrushed rustic setting with tables to accommodate any sized group. I loved the seafood ravioli. New, I think, is the lobster bisque … Perfect. Or if you want just a beer or cocktail or two, the bar is large, friendly, and rightly deserving of praise for its nice mixed drinks and variety of ales and beers. Mike, the proprietor, is constantly working to refine and innovate. I asked him where he got the idea for the lobster ravioli. He replied, «At the traffic light at Ashdown and Blue Barn Road.» We’ve dined at Carney’s several times, have met friends there, too, and everybody has been more than pleased with the atmosphere, the food and the service.

As a local area place I wish only the best for Carney’s. There’s some work to be done, however. Things need to get kicked up a notch or other local establishments will overtake them. I’m going to wait 6 months and try them again. We’ll see where they’re at then. Currently without a liquor license. Hopefully when that’s in place it will make a difference.
