These pies are available at their store but I usually buy them at Fred the Butcher because its closer to home. I have to say within the Capital District they are just about the best available or at least in the top 3. They’re not cheap but like they say you get what you pay for. If you have never had one, its a must try!

These are the best pies that you’ll ever buy, their vast selection will blow your mind. But beware if you do not get your holiday orders in a month prior you will not have the opportunity to enjoy one of these amazing pies for the holidays. Unfortunately this year I procrastinated too long. :-(

We were not prepared for the crazy lines when we arrived for our planned visit to Elms Farm(plus we’d brought a dog, which it turns out is not permitted, and they say that on their website so our bad), Unilocaled«cider donut stand» and Smith’s came up. A 15 minute drive through beautiful fall foliage and we were there. This is a compact but very efficient operation. Through a window you can see several bakers hard at work making pies in the kitchen. While were waiting, one came out with an armload of said pies. We got a «small» apple peach with crust(vs) crumb topping for $ 5 and it produced 4 reasonable servings. Filling was well balanced in flavor with fresh fruit taste, not too sweet, and the crust was flaky and just right. There are many choices available. Get a pie! They also sell pasture-raised meats(frozen), apples in season and a variety of jams and whatnot. The only thing they don’t sell, and the reason for 4 vs 5 stars, is hot cider donuts! I did not see a donut robot in the kitchen and suspect they cook the day’s donuts in a single shift. The donuts were fine, just not hot. And you need hot donuts during cider donut season.

The stars were all lined up today so that I needed to be in the area of Smith’s Bake Shop during the hours that they were opened, and my recollection of having a piece of one of their pies at a nearby restaurant, Abeel’s, said this would be a no-brainer. Google Maps was helpful since I missed the turn-off on route 67 while I was following an 18 wheeler. I simply had to double back about five miles to find Jockey Street. This is a small operation open year round. And besides the fresh made pies made on site, they also sell food and farm products that are raised or created on their or other local farms. Look for farm raised meats(hormone & antibiotic free), eggs, fruits and vegetables, donuts, cheese, jams, ice cream, apples, cider, and of course PIES! I counted 24 pies on their menu. Most are fruit pies selling for $ 11. There were also three pies listed for $ 11.50(Pecan, Tollhouse, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie). I just had a taste of our Apple Blueberry Crumb pie as I’m writing this. mmmmMMMMMmmmm! The filling is just sweet enough with both apple and blueberry flavors coming through, and the crumb topping is nice and crispy and not overly buttery. I can’t wait to try more. I brought the pie to my wife’s office so they could try it and so that I wouldn’t eat the whole thing when I brought it home. Five others agree how delicious this pie is(was).

This place makes pies better than any other place in the area for much less money, other stores would price a pie of this this quality closer to $ 15, but not Smiths! The shop is small but they have so many kinds of pie to choose from that I don’t know how they make it all! Their crust is flaky and amazing, the filling is always delicious and not too sweet. I’ll bet they would do really well at the Saratoga Farmer’s Market. I’ve seen fundraisers sell pieces of their pie like at the Round Lake Antiques Festival. Try them out, the quality is the best!

What can I say? The pie from here is AMAZING! I actually picked up a Smith’s pie from Prime when I was visiting some friends who live in the area. They just happened to bring some in and were stocking the shelves. I circled the shelves until I could finally figure out what I wanted and the ultimately decided on an Apple and Peach Crumb Pie! I do not crave for pie that often although I do love my sweets, but this pie is making my mouth water! First off, the pie crust was exactly how I liked it: buttery! Of course, the edges were the best part! The filling was apple and peaches. It was not overly sweet at all. It was balanced with the flavor so that you didn’t just get an apple or peach heavy pie. It was almost like a perfect bite each time. The topping was soooo gooood! I have a weakness for crumb toppings. So, if this is down your alley, you gotta pick one up! Now that I’m back in LA, I’m seriously craving for some of their pie! I guess I have to wait until my next trip to Upstate NY. Smith’s… I’ll see you soon!

Absolutely fantastic pies! Order early around the holidays as they receive a tremendous amount of orders. Fresh or frozen; both are great!

I first tasted a Smith’s pie while having lunch at the Apple Barrel in Schoharie. It tasted just like my Aunt Della’s, who baked the pies for our holiday dinners growing up. She gave me her recipe, but the pie crust I made just never matched hers. Imagine my delight when I found out I could buy them right here! Now our holiday dinners are complete!
