My wife and me moved into Hercules 10 years ago. Little did we know the wind we were going to get, particularly in our backyard. The 90 plus ft. of fence line you see here sits on an open hillside of our property over looking Refugio Valley Rd. When its windy here things happen, like an even«somewhat good fence» getting blown to pieces. My old fence which I’ve had replaced twice in the 10 years being here just couldn’t take it anymore and I knew 1 more storm and it would be lying down in pieces once again and I could no longer handle going up and down the hill trying to make quicky repairs. This time we did not want the everyday fence so I started getting estimates or so we thought ! Only 2 other contractors came out and never got back to me. I’m thinking they just weren’t capable of building an extra strong fence that will last and couldn’t handle a tough job. We really needed someone who could make a really strong formidable fence. This particular job included going up and down a hillside all day carrying sacks of cement, 4 by 6(not 4by4) in posts, a cherry picker to remove all the old footings(other contractors I’ve talked to in the past do not remove old footings, when I told Pete I wanted these out he made no bones about it) all the top and bottom 2 by 6 in horizontal pieces(not 2by4) all vertical pieces and extra wood for reinforcements, a cement mixer and a slew of various hand a power tools. This is an exceptionally strong fence that was completed in a more than reasonable amount of time given the scope of the work and looks fantastic. Pete and his assistant John really worked hard on this project and it is really appreciated. Short of an «act of God» this fence is not coming down any time soon. Also while Pete and John were doing this job things were just breaking around the house. Our dishwasher went out and so did the dryer. As soon as the fence was completed they installed both of those appliances. It should also be noted that as much as this is belated it is just as well earned. Last year Pete Gilmour Construction replaced approx 45 Foundation Jacks under our home. These jacks sit on concrete piers and are about 20 in. or so in length and support the wooden beams that help make up the foundation of the home. The older ones were literally rotting out and when they would brake it would sound like someone drove into the side of our house. This job involved crawling through an opening in our closet floor and crawling around in a confined space for 4 – 5 days. Pete Gilmour is very dependable, shows up on time and does great work. What more could you ask for.
