Just had xmas lunch with my friend & adult children… plentiful, tasty, wide selection, friendly & efficient staff! Much better than I expected based on previous recommendations.

Use to be incredible. Just went downhill. Orange chicken = tough as a rock, general chicken = ditto, all the shrimp has that overseas, farm raised weird taste to it. Hibachi is good but steak was very tough. Sushi was mediocre at best. Not even as good as HEB’s sushi. Spare ribs were 90% fat and gross. Seafood casserole was in-edible. Egg roll was soft and old. It is a shame this place use to be so good. The wait staff is still great! However that’s just not enough to save a sinking ship.

First time eating here for lunch. Little on the high side on pricing. Lots of variety on the food though and tasted OK but nothing special. I would go back.

If I can give then a «no Star» rating, I would. A reservation for 25 was taken by the owner of this restaurant(according to one of the hostesses). When we got here, our tables was not ready and the management was not trying to accommodate us for the mess up they caused. This was for a wedding party…

After waiting for a seat for around 20 mins simply because they had no handicap seating, we finally are sat first place go is the sushi bar! The sushi bar was clean and looked nice however when I excitedly sat down with my plate of sushi and threw a hunk of salmon in my mouth I immediately regretted it. It had this slimy nastiness to it. It was old and had no flavor. I tried to cover the slime with Soy sauce it didn’t work! Ew it was pitiful, shrimp wasn’t much better. From now on I will not get sushi here… The food was good however! I absolutely love the pork dumplings!!! General tso chicken is great as well. The bathroom was disgusting. Parking was decent. I’ll always come back simply because it is the biggest and best habachi buffet in Beaumont!

Found a baby roach in the noodles. Told my waiter about it and heard nothing from the manager or anyone after that. Baby roaches are a sign of many more! Will never eat here again!

Most food was good, some could have been better. They do offer a kids buffet according to height! Seriously?! My son is only ten but he’s 5’1″, so they charged him for a adult buffet(he ate two slices of pizza and a roll). They seriously have a height chart on their wall by the register. So great place for a short family.

Absolutely terrible. This was my first time eating there and everything was gross! It all tasted like it had been sitting out for ever! The rolls and Texas toast where not softie crunchy, and the crackers to put in your egg drop soup where stale as all get out. We will NOT ever go back that’s for sure!

New owner the first of June, 2013. Great food and service. They really went out of their way for us and will be getting all of my Chinese restaurant business from now on!

Staff is really nice. 8 different buffet bars. All are kept well stocked and the food has great flavor, many buffets are very bland, not these. Lots of variety. Clean.

This place is not a good place for Chinese buffet. When I arrived, I was greeted by a less than happy hostess. She did not smile even once and seemed mad she had to be at work. Though there were numerous tables open, she wanted to seat my party of two way, way in the back. I guess I looked like a second rate citizen or something? They have a hibachi you can order fresh prepared food at, but I opted to get just whatever was on the buffet. It was edible, but I am almost certain it was not within specifications for safe food. The steam was definitely visible from the buffet tables, but the food seemed luke-warm. Maybe it was still cool from being in the fridge from the day before or something? I don’t know. When we went to pay for our meals, we told the lady at the register about the issues we had, but she could not care less. She just acted shocked, but unconcerned. I ate the food, but I don not plan on returning any day soon.

Why am I giving a 4 star to a restaurant that has given me stomach pains two times in my 6 visits? Well to begin with a year ago when I told myself I will never come back here I came back on a whim to see if anything has changed and it did. It went from cluttered half empty buffet with terrible music that has no match to what you would want to hear while eating(don’t ask me, I don’t want to get into that) with some of the most spaced out looking individuals working there to a decent buffet that actually has depth in their implications that they stride in keeping up to par with the customer count in standing. The parking lot is ample. The inside is starting to show it’s age but still decently clean. I could have sworn I was paying $ 13 for the buffet last year but now the current price is $ 11, well worth it. The service depending on who you get is a dice roll. Ask for the server«Honeur»(Honor), she has been the best out of the rest that knows a little more about maintaining a table. Defensive driving course is held here so that’s a good one two. Hostess do not know how to spread out the clientele so your server might be in the weeds the next moment you notice. This means taking turns on customers for each server rather than setting 4 tables down within a span of 5 minutes and no I’m pretty sure they didn’t ask to sit there. Water has a neutral taste to it, doesn’t taste like fish has been swimming in it. Temperature of the food compared to last year is almost right on, not steaming but still hot when you are at your table with it for 5 minutes, last year I could have sworn someone turned off the tables to save energy or something. It has a «Hibachi grill» where you take your selected raw ingredients to a cook, they cook it in front of you, The size of the buffet I would say if you can imagine a standard length of a buffet there are at least 3 main stream food lines and a shorter one with the cold salads and such off tothe side.

Last time I reviewed this restaurant, I only gave it two stars and it was lucky to get that many. They shortly closed down because others obviously had similar experiences. They have now reopened with the original owner back in charge and it is so much better. The food is better, the sushi is good with a much better selection, they have fixed the server issue, and the ice cream is no longer prepackaged in little cups. I highly recommend this buffet. I would like to see more Chinese food and less American food, but it’s a great place to take you family. PS: You have to try the baked oysters!

This is quite possibly, and likely probably, the worst«Chinese» restaurant in Beaumont. The food is very bland and they use spaghetti noodles instead of lo mein. The selection was also very poor considering the size of the place. I was hoping for a reprieve from the poor food by trying something fresh made at the hibachi, but once again, the selection was very limited and the food was very bland and no lo mein but instead capellini. I will not be going back.

I’ve been to China Star quite a few times since it has opened. There are 3 long steam carts of food, 3 more long non-steam carts of salads and desserts, a hibachi grill, a sushi area and a corner for ice cream. It is usually about $ 10 – 12 bucks a person(depending on when you go), lunch prices are a little cheaper. Each time I’ve visited(except for this last time) has been good. Food is always good and hot, restaurant is clean, wait staff is ok, good choices in food. I always left full and without a complaint. This past Sunday 6⁄23 me, my husband, mother and step-father went there for my step-father’s birthday. This visit was noticeably different for all of us to the point where it became a topic of conversation as we dined. First thing that was noticed was there was food all on the floor near the area we were sitting. Not just tiny crumbles of food, there was big pieces of food, large crabs and other debris on the floor that everyone was walking over and no one bothered to clean up(until we were finished with our meal and about to leave someone finally decided to come and clean it up). The food cart(buffet area) had food scattered on the counter around it(I’ve never seen this before here, normally it was always clean). They were out of nearly everything. We asked for straws; there was none, there was no sugar/artificial sugar trays on the tables; had to ask for those, there was no spoons — anywhere, they were out of shrimp and oysters and other foods. The desserts were different — very different… they only had cake where as before they would have cookies, cake, puddings, jello, cheesecake, etc. The type cake they had was the homemade type(something you’d make yourself)…which ok, whatever but normally they’ll have the typical Chinese cakes in different flavors(coffee, orange, strawberry, vanilla, etc). They use to have buckets of ice cream where you’d go and scoop out yourself. They changed that to little cups of ice cream(which is a little more sanitary than having everyone scoop their ice cream) but they only had 2 flavors and not very many of those. We still had to pay the price for the buffet even though there was things that were out. Though each time I’ve visited the wait staff hasn’t been the best. I think with some care and training from managers they could have better wait staff. I sure hope this was just a little hiccup this one time from them. I’ll be back but not if they have continued to go downhill like this last visit.

The place was nice and clean, the waitstaff was courteous, and the overall experience was a pleasant one. However, the selection was lacking. Even with the sushi and hibachi bar, out of all the Chinese buffets I’ve been to in the Golden Triangle, this one had the least appealing items and selection. Notably absent were any of the generally higher-priced shellfish such as crawfish or crab legs.

First off, this isn’t a hibachi restaurant as the name would lead you to believe. It is actually just a typical Chinese buffet, with a Mongolian grill and a sushi bar. The place does have a tasteful and pleasant appearance; clearly a lot of effort was put into the décor and layout. It almost looks like a trendy nightclub except for having steam tables in place of the dance floor. Unfortunately, the same effort wasn’t put into the quality of the food. The restaurant has an abundance of entrees available on the buffet. However, on the day I went there for lunch, everything tasted consistently bad — bad enough that I am writing this review. When I say bad, I mean everything tasted fishy or rancid. Three of the four people in our lunch party had gastrointestinal distress immediately after lunch. Do NOT eat here.

This place recently opened up(about 6 – 8 weeks ago) I didn’t want to go try this place out right when they opened up, i wanted to let them settle down and get used to operations(that way i can give them a good accurate review). My visit to this place started off unpleasant and went downhill from there. Upon walking in with three other friends, we got no attention from either of the TWO hosts(that were on their cell phones) I had to ask them if we could have a table for 4. Take note this was at 8:30pm after we were sat down the waitress(who was extremely polite and helpful) took our drink orders, after that we went out to get some food I start from left to right which was the sushi bar first, then i get… OKTHISIS A LONGREVIEWILLJUSTGIVEYOUCLIFFNOTES Arrived at restaurant at 8:30, hostess’ do not acknowledge us,(too busy on their cell phones). Sat down and did not mention to us that the Hibachi grill was closing in a few minutes, Take note we were seated at 8:30 and the place doesn’t close till 10pm. We get to the hibachi grill only to find out hes cleaning the grill. Did not even have Tabasco for the oysters. Most items in the buffet had been old and not replaced Some items on buffet ran out @ hours before closing time. All in all it goes down to bad management.

The food was fresh and well prepared. The selections on the buffet were very extensive, with sushi bar, four soup choices, many different meat, vegetable and bread choices as well as a variety of desserts and an ice cream dispenser. I tried the Hot and Sour soup which is normally one of my favorites. It was good, but not quite as tasty as I expected. The Hibachi plate offered all the typical types of meat and other things to add. I chose a good portion of fresh shrimp, some chicken and one piece of pork. All were cooked properly and with the addition of the Teriyaki sauce, were a pleasure to eat. On my next visit I will definitely try the Thai seafood soup, which looked very good, but may not be for everyone, since the shrimp were cooked in the soup(whole shrimp, antennae and all). The salad bar and the dessert area seemed to have all of the typical choices of a good chinese buffet, and the service was very good, without being too hovering. Price with beverage ran about $ 12.00 per person for my party of 3.(Weekend). The normal price is a little less on week days. Definitely glad to have this added to our dining choice in the Beaumont area, and I recommend it for a nice meal with enough choices for even the discerning patron.
