Was in the nearby area and found this place on Unilocal.Saw that they have happy hour and wanted to try it out. When we went inside a Korean female greeted us and seated us with two standard menu. We had to ask for the Happy Hour menu before she would give them to us. And funny enough that I think the service has improved after she noticed I was looking at Unilocal on the phone! The Happy Hour menu is good deal. The sushi/sashimi is a small selection but fresh. I just feel uncomfortable that the server will not proactively give us Happy Hour menu until we asked about it.

I was craving udon soup on a cold and rainy day and Banya is near the hotel I’m staying in so I gave it a shot. Boy am I happy I did. I ordered the gyoza appetizer and nabeyaki udon soup. Both were excellent. The gyoza were some of the best I’ve had. They weren’t greasy or overly fried. The nabeyaki udon was also excellent — so good I burned my mouth eating it as I couldn’t wait for it to cool down. The noodles were good and the egg was perfectly timed so it was still runny.

This place comes as close to my old favorites as I’ve had in a long time. Fun décor(have yet to try the«seiza» style booths) and great food.

One of my favorite restaurants and the best sushi in the Portland area! A huge menu variety, cool traditional«tatami» style seating, and very great, helpful service! All my questions were answered thoroughly and our server knew the menu and dishes very well. The owners are the nicest. And the food is so fresh and perfectly flavored. Love this place!

My favorite sushi place! Always great service and the food is amazing. I judge sushi restaurants by their salmon nigiri and this place is definitely the best! I nice fat piece of fresh and tender salmon every time… mmm.

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. This cute, lowkey Japanese restaurant is great for those looking for a more relaxed setting. My favorite thing about this place is that they have vegetarian options for my partner! We stopped by right when they opened on Friday night, first to arrive. We were greeted by the manager and seated immediately. Their menu has a lot of different options to choose from, everything ranging from bento boxes, to sushi, to ramen and rice bowls, etc. On this visit, we decided on a few rolls: Veggie Lover Roll, Sweet Potato Tempura Roll, Shiitake Mushroom roll, Spiderman Roll, and their signature Banya Roll(OK it was more than a few rolls lol). We also tried their sake flight, and an agedashi tofu to start. For dessert we ordered the Tempura matcha ice cream. Favorites from this meal included the Veggie Lover roll, Sweet Potato Tempura roll, and the Banya roll. Dessert was really good too. We loved our server too! Super nice guy, and we were very pleased with his level of service and attentiveness. We’ll probably be back since we live like 5 minutes from this place.

Our favorite Japanese place. Family owned. The most friendly staff around. The food is top notch. You cannot go wrong here. The sushi is extensive and affordable.

A small and warm mama and papa Japanese cultured sushi joint with real Japanese short tables available. We love coming here for the excellent service. Sushi rolls are delicious and very reasonably price. Nothing too overly fancy, but fancy enough with their specialty rolls. Good place to go for a casual bite, but better quality than the conveyer belt places. I always like to get the volcano roll. We like to come here on weeknights.

Banya’s lovely interior belies the strip mall exterior. We were happy to have stumbled upon Banya. We sat in one of three tatami like booths with shoes off. The dinner was a mixed bag, but given that my Japanese Chirashi was super fresh tasting even on a Monday night, I was happy. My girlfriend’s chicken teriyaki was very salty, unfortunately. As to not complain, she made her way through the large serving. We shared the tempura. It was delish. I enjoyed the Ty Ku sake flight of Black, Silver, and Coconut. I will be back for more of the butter fresh salmon. Unfortunately, the fresh tasting white tuna like fish was the cheaper Escolar that has its own health complications, so I advise avoiding it.

I may sound like a broken record but once again I had an amazing experience at Banya. I ordered my favorite, Hamachi(yellowtail) which was amazing in both freshness and quantity. I also got my second favorite Unagi(eel) which is only good if prepared with good timing, due to the fact that it is served warm. I have never been disappointed here which is a very good sign that the Itamae is a true professional. I got the Masago(flying fish egg) because I like the fireworks explosion in my mouth. I ordered something that I have not ordered here before which was the Escolar(super white tuna) which was an amazing treat. It is a delicious fish if it is fresh and only order it at a place that you trust. Keep in mind this fish is known as the«ex-lax fish» and should only be eaten if it’s fresh and in small quantity. This is why I love this place so much!!! I trust the Itamae(sushi chef). I also ordered the Uni(sea urchin) but as you can see in the picture. it wasn’t there. He told me he had it but it was not as fresh as he’d like it so I politely thanked him for being a professional and informing me. Uni is another one of those that is a great treat if it’s fresh. It’s also an acquired taste so it’s not ordered very often. He always lets me know if he thinks it’s up to standard or not. He could have just served it to me, especially since it’s a high priced item, but he is a True Professional Itamae. Thank you again to the entire staff of Banya!!! It is always a great experience with you.

During our trip to Portland, my wife and I stayed very close to Banya. The reviews were good, and the menu looked nice and affordable. I love sushi, but I can’t stand paying $ 20 for some artfully decorated roll when I would be just as happy with a decent spicy tuna roll. I am always on the hunt for sushi places with affordable rolls and a some creative flair. Banya exemplifies these aspects. If I lived in Beaverton, Banya would be my go-to sushi place. The service is good. The décor is nice without being tacky. One review said the décor was«cozy», and I think that embodies the restaurant atmosphere pretty well. We ordered several rolls, including the futo-maki, Beach Roll, Lion King, and(my favorite) the Fire Viking. All were very fresh and well-prepared. The Fire Viking came out wrapped in foil like a take-out swan, surrounded with flaming sterno fuel. It was quite a show, but the fire served to cook the salmon topping the roll to perfection. Dinner for two with 4 rolls and edamame was very affordable.

Visiting from the Bay Area and have found some of the best Japanese food we have ever been to. This half Japanese girl is so happy. My niece just said«she is so full she can’t breath».

Found this place by accident, and it’s amazing. I tried sake for the first time and the waitress was super helpful suggesting a few for a sake newbie. It was wonderful. The soup was hot and so so so tasty! Their sushi was amazing, best in Portland by far! Then had teriyaki chicken to die for! Plus everyone working there was beyond nice. The sushi chef smiled & nodded as we walked in. It was also very fast!

My family are loyal customers and have been coming here since I was in middle school. Today, I ate there for the first time in several years. Everything here is solid, not great but not bad either. The waitresses are very friendly. The amount of makizushi available is overwhelming, which is great is you like variety. I was adventurous and got something besides my usual udon: oyakodon. I wish there was more egg, but it was still ok.

Great sushi selection. From spicy to sweet to just plain awesome. We had the fire mountain roll and ordered another one it was that good. The tuna tataki was fresh and delicious. Décor is definitely a little dated but took my daughter there and she loved it. Service was the only thing I had any deal with. It was a Saturday and they had one server when people started coming in I could tell it would be an issue later on but we left before the rush.

Just ok!!! Still can get what their goal is. There were bunch of people in there and it seems everybody was ok what they were eating… Really poor choice on rolls and at that time there was only one guy preparing rolls which could take me a while to get one Thanks

I heard about this place awhile ago never went but finally decided to go! It’s a cute little family owned restaurant with a cozy home like feel! They also have an area where you can sit with ur shoes off i forget what they’re called but it’s fun and different! Okay now to the food! It was good but nothing stood out but nothing was bad! But service was awesome and super friendly! Would definitely come back for a quick nice sushi fix :)

Went here tonight with my wife and really enjoyed the meal. We ordered various kinds of sushi and all were very tasty, especially the crunchy spicy salmon roll. The staff were very friendly and it was nice to be in a restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. We will be back for sure!

This is my sushi spot in portland/Beaverton! I can’t say enough good things about this place. Don’t expect a ton of frills, it’s a basic set up with plain tables and chairs and 1 – 2 servers for the whole place. With that said, be patient because the sushi is worth it! They have several rolls to choose from, really something for everyone. And their nigiri is extremely fresh! The sushi is always presented beautifully on 1 huge plate for the table, so no scattered plates all over the place. It’s a little pricey but completely worth it :)
