It pays to have friends in service. For protecting and serving our country and this gem. So I’ve never been on a military base before… so this was all new to me. Its really its own little community. From what my girlfriend told me its smaller than most bases, but still pretty neat. A school, apartments, gym, fast food restaurants… you basically never have to leave. Its kinda like if Wal-Mart and Dillard’s had a baby. Clothing, perfume and makeup(the good department store stuff), groceries, appliances, household items, wine & spirits, military uniforms, luggage etc etc… you name it they had it. Prices on some items were noticeably cheaper than in regular stores… and they had decent sales on most items. And no tax! Sold!

Hhmm… how can I put this. The people that work here must REALLY hate their jobs. They aren’t rude in what they say but how they say it. Let me start by saying we are stationed at Joint Base San Antonio in Texas so we don’t normally come here and my review is based off of one visit from yesterday. So my husband is Army, he and I have never been to a NEX, so we spent most of our time just walking around talking and laughing trying to see if there were any difference’s from a NEX and a PX. There was a lady kind following us around and when we walked past the hygiene section with our one item she yells out«are y’all ready yet!!!» We told her no and proceeded to the handbag section. Once in the overpriced handbags section she once again follows us and just kind of stands around. We continue looking around with our personal stalker in tow and I finally find a handbag under 50 bucks. When we got to the register and my husband handed her his CAC card/Military ID she says«uummmm OK!» I don’t know why she gave attitude perhaps it is different from the PX but we are required to show ID. This really pissed me off a simple thanks would have been fine. So anyway stalker lady takes out all of the paper from the purse I am trying to buy and checks every pocket inside of this small purse. Seriously she followed me the entire time all the way up until I got to the register when would I have stolen something? The actual store is a pretty good size and had all shelves adequately stocked. Army ACU’s were marked up by about 5 bucks from what we are used to paying. Other than that the store is pretty nice. The customer service on the other hand well that leaves something to be desired. If we were stationed here I would be taking names and going to a supervisor. There doesn’t seem to be much in this area so I would imagine this is the go to place for military families. I’m not going to pay someone to disrespect me every time I come in their store.

The place is never busy, but there is always a long line at the cash registers. Do not get your uniform tailored here. I’ve taken my uniforms here twice to have patches sewn on and will never come back. The location is inconvenient, the turnaround on getting your uniforms back is usually a month or longer, and the staff can never find them when you are ready to pick them up. It took 45 minutes for them to locate my uniforms.

You would think the only shop in town would have the unit patches for the units on this post, right? No. Wrong answer. Why would you think that, you moron? Aside from being unable to buy the only thing I came here to purchase, it’s not that awful. Most of the staff is helpful, and it definitely does have a good selection for a post this size(ie, small.) There is a barber shop right on site that opens really early in the morning, and this can definitely be a life saver if you failed to adequately prep for drill /work. Don’t really need to recommend one way or the other — it’s pretty much the only shop in town.

Just like anywhere else in this part of Louisianna, the people are either friendly and helpful or irritable and apathetic. Sense of urgency has chosen this place to die. That is customer service(whether they are helpful and friendly or not) and ordering items that they have run out of. You are a faceless part of their work day and your shopping experience will benefit from holding that perspective.
