The service and facilities at this salon are excellent. Unfortunately salons are about the haircut, and my last experience there was abysmal. Last time I went in here for a haircut, I found out the guy who usually cuts my hair no longer works there. I scheduled an appointment with someone else. He nicked my ear, took twice as long as is normally required, and seemed genuinely confused by this strange protein called hair that was growing from my head. After a few touch ups, he eventually managed to give me a decent haircut, but I was bleeding for a day and a half afterwards. Furthermore, I needed a conservative haircut for a job interview, and he repeatedly insisted I let him do something more ‘fresh’. This is not what I expect when I pay 30 $ for a haircut. This salon is an easy walk away for me.

This salon is ok. I liked my hair cut, but my color was sub-par. Because I’m a little fanatical about my hair color, I couldn’t go back. However, I don’t know if I would anyway; the atmosphere was too harsh for my preference, and while the employees were all very nice I do not like the possibility that the person I scheduled the appointment with can push me off to an apprentice. They have their own makeup line that I was quite impressed with, though!

This time last year, I was looking for a way to decompress from the holiday busyness. My hair had a quick home dye kit color in lieu of going to salon(time constraints!) While I was visiting family in Detroit, I decided to try Maalouf Salon for a cut and color. What I experienced is so much more! When I arrived, I was still in hyper-mode, running from appointment to appointment. After a quick consultation, my hair was lathered in color, my head in a magazine. Somehow, my perspective started to shift; the cool interior of the salon reflected a modern spa feeling, dark wood reminiscent of sauna paneled into the nooks with frosted glass partitions where I imagined I sat near a steam room. With my magazine, I was transported poolside to Miami. Could I dip my foot into pool? I felt such a private experience, yet the airiness of the panels prevented the claustrophobic effect. Glimpsing around the corner, I saw snow flying by and I felt any time of year, autumn leaves, summer heat, spring rains, and I could come back to this oasis. While I was my hair was being worked on, I stepped over to Elie’s domain, the makeup counter and had my brows tweezed. We were chatting and before I knew it, my brows were painlessly arched to perfection. We played with some makeup and Elie showed me how to apply mascara to make my eyelashes movie star thick. Another quick tutorial on blushing my apple cheeks with right brush and I went to back to shampoo where my scalp was massaged to heavenly heights. Next, my hair was lightly blown dry before Johnny came back to inspect the warmly burnished brown red color he had invigorated into my hair. And he listened to my complaint that Brad Johns had turned me into an allover blonde and added caramel highlights that softly glinted. He proceeded to cut my hair with meticulous precision and I walked away feeling not like a movie star, but rather myself in the best possible sense. Not only did I look great, but also I had a serene mindset that lasted for days – through the airport hustle, unpacking at home, and getting situated back in the groove of living. I highly recommend giving your self a vacation from the hubbub of life and regaining some peace of mind at Maalouf Salon.

I LOVE this salon. I have gone to the same place since I moved here 2 years ago and while I liked it, felt I needed something new and so I asked around and Maalouf came highly recommended so I decided to give it a try, I like that it was down to earth and hip and not at all cheesy as I read in one of the reviews. My stylist is JEWELLS and I can“t say enough good about her and my experience there. I told her I needed something new but wasnt sure what I even wanted or would look well and she gave me several options and spent A LOT of time helping me decide what would be the best… I LOVE the end result and will definitely be going back to her and the salon again for my next appointments.

Ok Unilocal… You gotta move those dollar signs up a smidgen. I don’t know if I have ever been to a salon that charged me an extra $ 40 for a blow dry after a color. And I think that charging $ 60 for cutting bangs is a bit excessive as well. The staff is nice, and the color was great, but for $ 100 more than I usually pay at salons, it just isn’t worth it.

Maalouf is as awkward as the name sounds. This hair salon, being located in downtown Birmingham, has certain standards to maintain when it comes to the looks. And so Maalouf does it in a very cheesy cool fashion. From every design aspect of the salon its attempting to be cool without any sense of direction or personality. All the employees are nice and friendly. They seem happy. But altogether they all have this blank look on their face once they stop smiling. Maybe because I showed up on a Monday. I asked for a haircut and got a hair trim. The trim lacked personality too, which was at least consistent with everything else this salon has to offer. I’m very disappointed at this salon. Hair salons are supposed to enhance personalities, or even to create personalities. I just find everything they do here they just try too hard to be safe. Getting my hair did here felt like watching a cheesy movie without sex and violence.

I love going to Maalouf, I feel very welcomed each time I visit. Maalouf has great people working there especially Jewels and Kevin, the nice people are what keep me coming back. There is no better bargain than the $ 20 expert blow dry’s on Tuesdays. Jewels has done my color and cut and does an excellent job, the prices are what you would expect for a Birmingham salon. I highyl recommend you giving Maalouf a try, you will love it!

This salon is fabulous! I do not have a good track record with getting my hair and makeup done by strangers, but these stylists are outstanding and I have never been happier! I came to Maalouf on Saturday with a bridal party. We were scheduled with a number of stylists(Jewells, Toni, Scotty and Johnny) and Leslie and Nancy did our makeup. ALL of us were thrilled with the outcomes. Here’s a little breakdown of the services we got… Hair: Two girls got up dos, two got half up styles and two of us had our hair done down, and they all turned out great. I had Toni and would go back in a second. I have long hair and some bangs that I’m trying to grow out and she blended the bangs in perfectly. I pretty much let her do whatever she thought would look best, but said I wanted to keep it down and wanted to keep the length(so basically I didn’t want a head of tight curls). She make my hair beautiful, full and wavy and I wish I could have her do my hair everyday! Makeup: The group was split between Nancy and Leslie, but there were other makeup artists there as well working on clients and all of their makeup looked great. My skin had just broken out a bit(of course), but Nancy had my skin looking perfect. I asked for a smoky, dramatic eye with a nude lip and that’s exactly what I got. I loved the colors she chose(they sell their makeup there, but it’s a tad pricey) and for the first time ever my under eye circles didn’t come out looking grey. My makeup stayed on all afternoon and night. I have never been so happy with a makeup application, as was everyone. The only thing we had to touch up was our lips. Each of the girls wanted something different with our makeup and Nancy and Leslie delivered for each of us. I will be going back to Maalouf ASAP!

I first heard about this salon when I moved to Birmingham from Philadelphia… two of the Maalouf brothers helped us move our couch in, and they told us they were opening up a salon. I thought I’d return the favor by giving them patronage. I quickly discovered, however, that they were experts in their trade. I had my hair cut by Johnny twice. Each time he gave me an expert cut that I got many compliments on. The second time I got it cut, I asked for a new style, and he gave me the most amazing semi-short haircut I ever got. He helped me reduce the«pouf» factor of my usually thick hair by expertly cutting it to make it feel lighter. The staff at the Maalouf salon are wonderful. Kurt(the person who washed my hair) gave me the most amazing shampoo and head massage to accompany it. I felt pampered by the experience, and very comfortable in their modern, chic salon. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a new stylist. They have other services available, including their own line of makeup and makeup done by Elie and I think a few other people. Check it out!
