I’ve been eating at Pepper’s for 30+ years… had my first sip of beer here when I was 5 and it was over by where Food Lion is now. Be prepared for moderately priced sandwiches and bar food. The few entrees they offer are pretty good but if that’s what you’re looking for, go somewhere else. This is a soup and sandwich joint that is really good at soup and sandwiches. Generally, we roll with the ample salad bar and chili(bottomless, fingerless and mouseless) or French Onion but I can honestly recommend anything and have never had anything I didn’t enjoy. Except for the cherry cider. But I don’t like Robitussen cough syrup either… Oh, and the spotty service. Most of the time, it’s attentive and knowledgeable but occasionally you score a server who has yet to be fired for incompetence, laziness or whatever other reasons managers fire servers who aren’t able to do their jobs. The only real complaint is that Pepper’s seems a little tolerant of this but hey, it’s an election year and we’re all getting used to lowering our standards. It’s important to remember, however, that douche bag waiters come and go. The awesomeness of Pepper’s is eternal.

Late review. Went here for lunch with my wife. What a nice surprise this place was. Asked a local for the their favorite place and they sent us to Peppers. Good food good service and the prices were fair. Nice place to get out of the rain on a chilly Saturday in October. Would definitely eat here again. The absolute best onion rings ever. The blackend fish tacos were excellent and the New Yorker sandwhich is very good choice. If we are ever back in Boone we will eat there again.

Food, I’ve had better. Dark inside. Service decent. The salad bar needs some lights because you can’t see the food.

Have yet to be disappointed!!! Servers are so sweet and professional. The food is so great! It’s executed perfectly down to the top bake on spinach artichoke dip. Definitely bomb. Plus the only place that knows how to do a proper Moscow mule or any mule in copper cups… Heaven!!!

We were visiting Boone and someone recommended that we have lunch at Peppers. The atmosphere was nice. There were four of us. The salad bar was passable, the rest of the food was awful. One of us had the clam chowder. It looked like it was made of glue. The spicy chicken sandwich was so spicy it was almost inedible. The fried mushrooms was covered with a much too thick breading, had not seasoning, and were not pleasant at all. The French onion soup didn’t have much flavor. When the diner who had the spicy chicken sandwich told the waiter that it was too spicy, the waiter said, «yes, it is spicy.» Never offered to brig a substitute. We all left feeling not too good, and promise to never return to Peppers.

Came here as a brunch with our son. Had the French onion soup. Absolutely incredible soup, rivaling any offering I have gotten at higher end restaurants. The addition of kiddie safety scissors to trim the cheese was brilliant! The Reuben was spot on. Love this little place.

Atmosphere is great. French onion soup was OK, the French dip was good. This is a proper Bar. That is what you should expect, bar food. Very good bar food. Bartender was excellent both times… Ryan and Stephanie, both very cool.

Went in there as a group of 10 last Saturday, at 9:30, and the place is practically empty. We are told that they are unsure if they can seat us all at the same table. Then, after checking with the kitchen, we are told that«the kitchen is backed up and we close at 10. You can stay, but we are not sure we can feed you.» First of all, you are not busy so why are you backed up and why can’t you seat us together? Second of all, it’s 9:30! You don’t close for another half hour. Third of all, you turned away a party of 10 who would have spent a minimum of $ 100 on food and drinks and went on their merry way! So, I proceeded to post to their Facebook page so that management would know what happened, and guess what happens? Not what you would expect. Not an apology, not a, we’ll address this with our employess, not a, how can we make this right, we’d love for you to come back. In fact, they DELETED the post and completely ignored me. THANKYOU for the AWFUL customer service on all levels. I will never go there and will never suggest it to anyone EVER.

I started coming here when they first opened it. It was a sandwich shop in a strip center at the time. Everyone loved the place, myself and all my buds from ASU. They just did things right here. Over the years they have expanded and improved and now the atmosphere is awesome. A good place to eat or have a drink. This business has a social conscience and low eco footprint.

Worst service ever. Before we could get a drink order the server stated they were understaffed and would need our cooperation… This place isn’t even half way full. We ordered spinach dip as an app and it was floating in oil, which was not eatable. They took it back and brought us another which was in the same state. Next, I ordered a sirloin steak wrapped in bacon, medium rare. The steak I received had no bacon wrapped around it and was cooked well done. Our server never checked to see how our food was nor did we ever receive a refill on our drinks. This dinner was rough and an unpleasant to spend the evening. Not to mention a hair in my salad.

The food is good, especially the French onion soup. My family and I used to eat here 1 – 2 times a month until one night… we found three hairs in our food, 2 separate dishes! I’m guessing a cook was not wearing a hairnet. Very gross! We told the cashier and he didn’t seem phased by it, didn’t say sorry, or can I get the manager, nothing! This was about 10 months ago, and we haven’t been back.

The food is ok. The atmosphere is great, definitely Boone feel. Great beer list and cocktails. Service is hit or miss, and we, like many others, have been going for more than 10 years. My issues are that the food has definitely went on a decline and has service. Hope they get this fixed, as we do love going.

I have been coming here to this restaurant since 1979. The food service has always been consistently good and of high quality. Unfortunately the last two visits have been horrible. The food quality has gone downhill and the service is now slow. On the plus side they still have the best carrot cake and German chocolate cake around but you can get that to go

So I’ve given this place several tries and they still can’t seem to get it right. I must say my first visit about 6 months ago was the best and it’s gone downhill ever since. Where shall I start… burned burgers, raw chicken wings, dirty wine glasses or the dirty ketchup bottle that exploded when opened? Sorry Peppers, you’ve been marked off my list. The only thing going for this place is the friendly bartenders.

Completely unprofessional service. Our party of three came here at around 9:00 on a Saturday night. The guy behind the bar told us to take any table. 10 minutes later we were still waiting for our server. There were only 10 or so people in the restaurant. A waitress appeared from the back just once to serve food to another table and completely ignored us. After waiting another 10 minutes with no service we took the hint and left. The owner should be ashamed that he pays employes to treat potential customers this way. I have eaten here before and the food isn’t that good anyway. There are far better restaurants for people visiting Boone to check out: Hob Nob Café, Coyote Kitchen, etc

Peppers has decent food but in the last year or so their service has severely declined. Today it took 15 min to have our order taken and another 30 for it to be delivered. The manager wandered around but didn’t help the servers or get the cooking staff moving. It’s a shame. This used to be a great place to get a great lunch in a good timeframe. Don’t recommend going there anymore.

Peppers has been in Boone for 38 years I think and is about as Boone as Boone gets. The 2 go place in Boone. easy to get to and easy to park. We have been coming there for at least 17 years and for the most part everything has been good. Great sandwiches and burgers. The service is provided by college students so it can be hit or miss and usually they don’t stay around for long so don’t expect to see the same person from time to time. We love the booths and if we can’t get one in a reasonable amount of time will go somewhere else. One feels very secluded in the booths but can also people watch the restaurant at the same time. Jack Pepper the owner is friendly. I know folks love the French Onion soup but I have never had it and they love the salad bar but I have never had that either. I stick with the burgers, Ruben, New Yorker etc. Friends have the other menu items and seem to be pleased. I like the steak fries. Many times with the chips you get the bottom of the bag and it is a lot of small crumbles which is a pain. I understand wanting to get your moneys worth out of a bag of chips but… You can substitute fruit for the chips. Their soups are good and I like to get a cup of soup and half a sandwich which seems like the perfect amount for me. A few years ago they added a big bar in the adjacent space but I have also never been in there so can’t say what it is like. They have daily specials. All in all we like Peppers and keep coming back. It is friendly and we can count on the food we like to order being good.

I’ve been a resident in Boone since 2009, and I love supporting all the great local restaurants we have in the area. Pepper’s, unfortunately, just doesn’t meet the standards set by many other Boone eateries. I’ve visited twice to eat, and each time the food just wasn’t worth the price. On my last visit I had the Parmesan Crusted Meatloaf with mac ‘n cheese and veggies. The portion of meatloaf I received was very small and dry, and the mac ‘n cheese was bland. The veggies tasted fine, but the meal certainly wasn’t equal to the $ 15 price tag, not including tip. My friend, who chose the same dinner, was dissapointed as well. I will say this: the bar is well-stocked with great beers, the environment is fun(rustic, yet refined), and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We also received our dinners in an acceptable amount of time. Despite these positives, there are just too many other great places to eat in Boone to bother with the uninspired food offered at Pepper’s, especially considering the bloated prices.
