When in Boston never miss the opportunity to go to the Barking crab, charm place and the way you should enjoy all of their seafood! I would like to thank them for their hospitality and making my trips to Boston memorable. If you fly into Boston take a taxi Über or any other type of transportation and experience the Barking crab before you have to connect to your next flight. I do!

I stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch before taking a tour of the Boston Tea Party located on the other side of the harbor. It had an energetic vibe due to the live music inside during the daytime that was pleasant to watch and listen. Keep in mind, that this restaurant is essentially a large tent similar to a circus or a large tent that you can see at a Burning Man festival. This was fine with me, as this place had what i was looking for as a tourist in Boston and that is a lobster roll and clam chowdah(chowder).

The seafood is good but very noisy. Looses points for being exceptionally noisy. I’ll give it three starts. Typical New England styles. Prices are moderately high but what needs to be mentioned is the high noise level. If you’re going here be prepared to shout over dinner if you have expectations of communicating with who you come with.

This place definitely gets packed on weekends and is probably somewhat of a tourist trap, but I like coming here when we visit Boston! It is loud, but it has a great vibe and is right on the harbor. It can be pricey so I would recommend trying to find a seat at the bar, grabbing a few Harpoons and maybe one app to split. I have had dinner here before and it was good but not worth the bill. It is best to enjoy this place in the afternoon, around happy hour time, and then dine somewhere else — Maybe somewhere a little quieter.

Its getting a 3 star only because of the location/the view. The service was some of the worst I’ve had in awhile. The hostess was rude and couldn’t be any less helpful than she was. That was followed up by the female«bartender» being even worse. Without getting into the dialogue too much, we were asking certain questions about where to sit, who to order from, etc. and they wanted no part of helping our group out. I’m sensitive to these things and can understand when the place is very busy or it was a one time thing but it was dead and it was repeated 3 – 4 times. Like I said, the view and location is prime though! I’m sure that’s the only thing keeping everyone coming back. The food was decent. It was average but the prices are a little more than average. I don’t really see myself coming here again.

Best summer spot in Boston. I came here with my boyfriend for his birthday and I could not say enough good things about our experience. It is high quality, absolutely delicious, fresh seafood served in a low-key relaxed atmosphere. The drinks are great, the food is phenomenal, and the service is top tier. With water views, amazing food, and a great ambience, combined with the greatest service from our server Laz, I don’t know what more you could ask for. Planning my next trip back asap!

Great food. Great ambience. Great music. Super bougie! Love this place. It’s right on the water and has great views and an awesome vibe. Came around 7 on MDW and there was an hour wait but we found seats at the bar. The buffalo shrimp is awesome, albeit a little too breaded. The naked lobster is delicious, albeit a little dry. The burger was«good» — says date. Had a great time here. Would highly recommend!

What can I say about this place. Well it has a great view of city and over the water. But the food was ok. Nothing to run over to. The customer service wasn’t the best. Our waiter took a whole 30 to 40 minutes to serve us and barely checked on us. The food was eh. I honestly miss Joe’s Crab Shack that was in Methuen with seasoned crab legs. These were just steamed and more pricey. Idk if I’ll come back here. I’m still on the lookout for something equivalent to Joe’s.

Fantastic experience. Been dying to try this place out for years and we finally got the chance over the weekend to stop in for lunch. We arrived early and sat outside. The staff allowed us to put tables together to make sure we were not in direct sun and were waited on almost immediately. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and quick. We ordered the lobster rolls, fish tacos and tuna burger and all were delicious! Within the time we were there, the entire restaurant was full. If you have a chance, sit outside as it seemed hot and stuffy inside with the plastic sheets pulled down. Fantastic experience and would 100% come back in a heartbeat. Bonus — it’s a short(mile) walk from Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market and less than half mile from the Aquarium.

I don’t know how it started exactly, but we only eat lunch at the Barking Crab when someone is cranky and needs a beer. I work in Fort Point, and there’s plenty of places to grab lunch, but it’s always kinda special to go to the Barking Crab. That might be why I only come here with coworkers when someone is annoyed! I’ve tried quite a few things on the menu, and overall, it’s a pretty good bite. It’s a little more expensive than other lunch spots, but when the weather is nice, it’s really lovely to sit on the patio and watch other people drink beers because you’re pregnant and can’t drink for at least another five months or so. #bummer All the standards of New England seafood are here in full effect, you can rely on the lobster roll, the clam chowder, and the fried stuff. All of that will be epically good! You can even get crazy and order a salad, and that’ll be pretty good too!

Came here on a Thursday evening with a party of eight. Waiting time of 30 mins was reasonable for such a large party. Got the king platter with was a 10lb lobster with various king crab parts. Imo the crab itself was not as tasty as it was really hard to get the meat out which was hard and a bit salty, maybe due to it BEING10POUNDS(I still can’t get over how but it was). Great for an expensive photo op though. Bar area– waitress was rude and unaccommodating to my friends visiting from the Philippines insisting on requiring them to present another form of identification aside from their drivers license. I know that this is Massachusetts law but how would you expect foreigners to know such things??? Would you expect to bring around your passports when wanting to go drinking in a foreign country??? Top it all off drink selection was limited and expensive af, l,

To shamelessly plagiarize from a friend’s(Dave O.) review of a different business: When we call management hours ahead of our expected arrival to see if they can accommodate a party of 23 later that evening and they say yes, that’s great. When we arrive almost two and a half hours before closing and the hostess refuses us, that’s not great. You’re an idiot! When we ask to speak to the management and they renege on what they earlier said to us, you’re even more of an idiot! When the hostess has an attitude about the whole thing, you’re as big an idiot as it gets! We were a party of 23. Their loss. Went across the street to the Daily Catch instead.

Stopped into Barking Crab while visiting Boston for a business trip, parking was a bit of a cluster however I managed to find a stop in a nearby garage just about two blocks away. Once I arrived I was greeted by a friendly hostess and I asked if I could take a seat at the bar to eat, she kindly obliged. I took a seat and immediately noticed the large lobster tanks behind the bar, with each tank indicating their size which just so happened to correspond with the offerings on the menu. Before looking over the menu the friendly bartender inquired if I wanted a drink, and I decided to go with the Barking Crab White Ale, which just so happened to be from the Harpoon Brewing Company of which I had some minor issues with later that evening, but I will save that for another review. Needless to say the beer was quite tasty. I looked over the menu and decided to go with the Fisherman’s Platter, which consisted of Fried Clams, Scallops, Shrimp, Haddock with Fries and Coleslaw. It didn’t take long for my order to arrive, and once it did I immediately noticed the size of the shrimp, they were huge! Overall everything had a great taste, but what surprised me the most was the fried scallops they were quite tasty and not how I would have ordered my scallops. I have to admit that with the large amount of seafood in front of me the fries were simple there out of necessity however they were quite good too. The location is also pretty nice, its located right along the harbor and there is even seating on the patio to take in the entire atmosphere of enjoying some quality seafood just feet away from its natural habitat, lol. Anyways there is also more casual seating inside however it did seem to get loud, so by no means is this a perfect place for a quite business meeting or a romantic evening out with a special someone. The Barking Crab was also featured on an episode of Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel back in 2009, during which they covered a giant four pound crab cake. Overall I wish that I would have stuck around, the atmosphere here was fun and festive and there seemed to be a decent beer selection available too however I thought I would leave and attempt to get a flight down the street at Harpoon Brewing Company, however that turned out to a be a failure. Anyways I enjoyed my meal along with the friendly service at the Barking Crab and would gladly return the next time I happen to be in Boston.

We were dining at the Daily Catch when we saw this next to it. It is by the water and so we thought it would be neat to try it out. It was a cold evening, dipping into the high 30s. But the place is well-insulated and with heaters that kept us warm. The wait staff was very nice and accommodating. The atmosphere was very casual. It looks like a place where you could just hang out and have a drink after work. It can get a little bit noisy that you have to raise your voice a little if you’re talking. But it was fun. The food itself was good but not extraordinary. We had the Bairdi crab legs, mushroom salad and bruschetta. There were three of us and the serving was just right. Would I go back to this place? Yes, just because it was a good casual experience.

I was exited to try something authentic, to be honest i did not like it very much. I liked the ambiance, typical sea food restaurant, the stuff is very friendly snd very professional. Appetizers were really good but very small portions for the price. Kids menu is really good, very generous portions for the kids. I gave 3 stars for the main courses, nothing bad but nothing exceptional, i was expecting hard core seafood but rather got regular(find everywhere) seafood. To summarize, enjoyed my beer, the ambiance, the service and my good old friends i was with. Dud not like the food. Make me think if i go back again.

The Barking Crab is OK. The menu has a wide selection of food, and it’s a good place to go for visitors because it’s near so many popular tourist sites. However, for the locals I think it’s a place you’d go once to tryout. Expect to wait in line and checkout for a long time. Go with a larger party and take advantage of their large tables. Go because you are near the water and harbor and you want to take advantage of the view and location. Also, go community style and share some crab legs with your friends.

This place came HIGHLY recommended, especially for their lobster roll. The location is great, on the water with a handful of tables lending to the view. The atmosphere is cozy and shack-like, with cool lighting. Service was fantastic. Hostess was friendly and helpful, and our server, Amy, was the bomb. She had good food recommendations, was HILARIOUS, and made our visit an outstanding experience. The crab cakes, lobster roll(get the onion rings), and fish tacos were phenomenal. Cons: they no longer sell the Barking Crab sweatshirts some of the servers had on!

A bit surprised it took us so long to check out the Barking Crab, as the place is a short walking distance from where we live, but after finally giving it a shot, we were disappointed. The pluses? The space is pretty nice and cozy, and I imagine it’s a great spot to hangout in the summer with the deck open. The nautical/seafood house vibe from the outside continues nicely inside, and the staff was nice. The other plus was that the soups we ordered were delicious! I had the lobster bisque and my wife had the chowder. I’d definitely get those if we returned. The sides of fries, both sweet potato and regular, we fine, albeit a bit soggy. The minuses? Well, my «naked» lobster roll was, to put it bluntly, gross. There was plenty of meat on the roll and it looked salivating upon arrival, but after a few bites, my disappointment was cemented. I had two bites in a row that left me biting into cartilage in poorly-picked lobster meat. My first such experience after eating countless lobster rolls/dishes since moving here 5 months ago. Like any shellfish, it’s not 100% unlikely to encounter such turnoffs, but it’s hard to swallow(literally) in a $ 27 lobster roll! The bun was, indeed, naked… it was dry and overwhelming; a dryness that basically causes it to stick to the roof of your mouth. I guess I underestimated how naked the roll would be, lacking the necessary butter you’re accustomed to on warm lobster rolls. Without the lemon, I may not have even been able to get through the rest of the roll. If you’re craving a lobster roll, I’d opt for their regular, chilled version. I’ve tried that one before, and it was much better. Overall, with so many places carrying similar items(with better preparation) at your disposal in the area, it’s hard to say the Barking Crab is worth the trip, the wait, or the money. Perhaps our opinion will change if we ever give it another shot, but our first experience was disappointing enough that the second visit won’t be any time soon.

This place was great! Decided to check it out after seeing it on a show on the food network. We split the neptune bowl and it was awesome. Plenty of food for 2 people. We added the extra 24 to make it a clambake but prob won’t next time. It was just 1 piece of corn some clams and a couple pieces of chorizo. Wasn’t worth the extra $ but the crab and lobster was excellent. Was a little surprised by the price when the check came but it was good. I’ll go back again.

It was my last night in Boston and I could not leave without eating here. I’ve only heard great things about their lobster mac and cheese as well as their lobster rolls, so there is not much surprise as to what I ordered. I am going to be honest though, I was not aware that they had hot lobster rolls, so I just needed to try it out and I am so glad that I did. Everything I ate here was absolutely delicious. From their cold/hot lobster roll, to their sweet potato fries, and lobster mac and cheese. Do yourself a favor and get the lobster mac, you wont regret it. Promise!

Excellent location and a great local place to bring out of town guests! However having to share a picnic bench with others is kind of awkward. The service was average, bordering on below average. In terms of food, I went with a classic– the lobster Mac and cheese. I have tasted my fare share of lobster Mac and cheese in Boston and this definitely ranks near the top. I highly recommend it! I had every intention of only eating half and taking the rest home but it was so good I couldn’t stop eating it despite being so full.

I went here for lunch on the recommendation of a Lyft driver who told me they have the best crabcakes, lobster rolls, etc. in town, and a great craft beer selection. The selection of seafood was good, but overpriced. We ordered the Buffalo scallops, crab dip, and a plain lobster roll. The lobster roll and a small side of cold fries was $ 27. The buffalo scallops were okay, but again, pricey. The crab dip was delicious and reasonable. For the price, you can eat at a fancier place in the Seaport District and have white tablecloths rather than the hustle and bustle ambiance of a seaside shack.

Location. Location. Location. How great is this spot??? — Had a little get together with some friends for dinner on a Saturday. Posted up at a table alongside the glass overlooking the water int he corner. Perfect location! We all went ahead and ordered some 2lb Lobsters. Lobster itself was delicious, but mine came out with about 1 inch of water on the bottom of the plate… used some napkins to soak it all up… The clarified butter was lacking in flavor as well. not sure what was going on with that… The Whole Belly Clams didn’t have that much of a «belly» aspect to them, hence super disappointing! Overall, would I go back? Yes. But I want to go back when the crabs are in season, and they just dump them on your table! Good times, good friends and seafood + drinks. It’s hard to not have fun with that combo.

I had a gift card so decided to take my daughter to lunch recently. Being January their patio was not open, but the atmosphere was really cool in the main room. Obviously, with a name like Barking Crab they are going for an all out nautical theme. Lots of stuff on the walls to look at, and I thought it was fun overall. It was a Saturday but was only average busy and we were seated right away. Our waitress was quick and the service was good. I had a lobster roll and it was a typical version of this treat. Not great, but pretty edible. My daughter had chicken fingers/fries off of the kids menu, and she was pleased with her choice. When it came time to settle the bill I was told that the tip could not be paid via the gift card. Huh? I have never experienced that before, but went along with it and gave the server a cash tip. I might come back in warmer weather to give this place another try.

Went here with the family for a wedding. It was a big event and fortunately, they were able to seat us. I know it’s not the easiest thing serving big groups but sometimes it’s all about the attitude you give when doing so. Fortunately, the service was fairly good. Everyone served us with a smile and had no major complaints. The biggest issue here is the food. It’s all cheaply done and overly priced. Drinks are done in the plastic cups(bar-esque) and the food is just not impressive by any stretch of the imagination. As a matter of fact, it’s all very underwhelming. I really wanted to like this place b/c the ambiance seems very fun but sometimes you just can’t get past the core of what you want in a dining experience — good food. To top it all off, the bathrooms were disgusting. You might as well be on a small tug boat with seawater flowing over the hull. Just unkept and poorly done. Considering this area, I’d highly advise finding somewhere else to eat. Food Taste: 2.5 Overall Service: 4 Value of food to cost: 2 Facility: 2.5 Repeat customer: no Dog Friendly: no

We came here for lunch because I had really really wanted to eat lobster rolls while in town. My party ordered the crab cake sliders, fish and chips, salmon burger and of course, the lobster rolls! I was pretty excited for the meal, however, it was… meh. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was really looking for fresh Boston seafood. The food was a little bit too oily, the bums were dry and bland. I had barely finished the lobster inside of the rolls and still had fries on my plate when a server came and took my plate — I was not finished.(And she only took my plate and not anyone else’s) I would give the food a 3 star for being meh and the service a 1 star. Sooooo… 2 stars!

Lived all my life in Boston and had never ate at the Barking Crab. Honestly, I could have gone to the grave without having had this experience. The humble interior is inversely proportional to the high prices. The drinks were watered down and stay away from the margaritas which are a mouthful of sugar-laden mix. I had an overcooked Mahi sandwich that was tasteless. The fries seemed frozen and the coleslaw is so sweet it’s inedible. Clam chowder was overly salty and the fried clams were tasteless and smelled of old oil. The waitress never came back to ask if we needed everything, never brought us napkins and didn’t even bring silverware(we got up and grabbed it ourselves). I suspect they’ll be pushed out as that area becomes more more expensive. Don’t waist your time.

Shared a late lunch with my wife. We split a wedge salad and a stuffed lobster(~2lbs). The salad was as expected and the stuffing was typical breading with scallops and fish. The lobster provided a fine quantity of meat from the claws and tail to satisfy us both. The price tag was higher than we had experienced in other restaurants, but this restaurant has proven it can demand these prices due to the customer pressure. I grew up in California diving for Spiny Lobster(no claws) and wanted to see what a ten pound Maine Lobster looked like compared to a Spiny. Our waiter courteously brought out ten pound King Louie on a platter for a meet and greet. Louie was shaking like a leaf until we returned him to his tank where he settled in a corner awaiting a future pot call.

I met up with my family here for beer and cocktails. We weren’t sure if anyone was eating or not. We got a table, which took about 20 minutes. We were seated and ended up ordering a couple of pitchers of beer and a few cocktails for the table. Everything was OK. I had the Privateer mojito The spot is right on the water so if makes for a cool atmosphere. The waiter kept asking a few times if we were going to order food and we told him that we had decided not to order any food at the moment and that we just wanted to drink. The waiter then informed us that the tables under the tent were for ordering food. If you we wanted to drink only that was what the area outside the tent was for. Ok — so no one told us that to begin with. There was no sign posted or anything like that. Plus the tables outside the tent were not shaded. Anyway we drank our drinks and then parted ways with the barking crab. I will probably skip this place on my next trip.

Fun and casual drinks and seafood. I had a fun time with friends. The place was buzzing and seemingly crowded on a week night, but we got a table immediately once our entire party had arrived. This place is extremely casual. You might share a table with strangers and drinks and food come on plastic cups and plates, but it all adds to the atmosphere. Service is FAST. I was shocked at how fast food came out of the kitchen after we ordered it. I tried the fried seafood platter, the stuffies(stuffed clams with chorizo and other goodies), the steamed mussels, and some raw oysters. The food all tasted pretty good the seafood was certainly fresh. If I have one criticism it is that the place is certainly not cheap, especially for such a casual place. This was a fun place to get drinks with friends on a weekday afternoon. It was pretty busy, the servers were running around but the food and drinks came quickly once we ordered them. –1 because I ordered a Moscow mule and they were out of ginger beer so they couldn’t make the mule. It was about 6 pm on a Monday so maybe they don’t reorder/restock til later in the week. $ 6 draughts ain’t bad. The music was throwback 2006 jams from Né-Yo to Britney to Cascada, which we loved. The view of downtown over the water was lovely as the sun went down in the early evening. It’s a super casual vibe but very fun!

Stuffed Lobster! It’s delicious and if you get an appetizer too you can share this with someone it’s very filling!(They ask you what size lobster you want pick the middle one to share for two) The only thing I don’t recommend is their bloody mary’s their absolutely horrible! — thats the only time I’ve been disappointed here!

We had a late Father’s Day lunch here, with the baby, and it was just right! I love when we go to a restaurant where we’ve never been and they are family friendly. The deck seating is lively and makes for a fun atmosphere. We were told that the indoor side(separate host stations) is quieter if that is your fancy. We ordered mostly fried food(calamari, crab cakes, whole belly clams) but they were pretty great with some cold beers from the bar. The restaurant isn’t meant to be super fancy but rather is a casual, fun atmosphere. I mean, we sat on picnic tables, grabbed our silver wear from a bucket and used a roll of paper towels. And yes, I mean that all in a positive way! I can imagine the deck being super fun at night with drinks and a Summer breeze so we may return(without kiddo) and enjoy a casual date night out!

This was a super seafood spot! A really fun and unique place to go. And almost everything on the menu is seafood which is awesome. The décor and atmosphere is very fun, it’s like a little shack located on the water decorated with all sorts of commercial fishing equipment. Really cozy and casual and fun. We started off with the crab dip appetizer which was creamy and delicious. I ordered the grilled mahi mahi sandwich and subbed fries for sweet potato fries — seriously the best decision ever. Giant wedges of fried sweet potato goodness, some of the best I’ve ever had(and I’ve sampled this cuisine at many a restaurant) the fish was a generous portion too. And not to expensive! Others got fried scallops(despite not being a fried food lover, they were tasty) and the warm lobster roll(mayo free! A good option for fellow mayo haters like myself). Basically I’d say can’t go wrong here. I even notice some options for the children and seafood haters(I guess they exist).

This is the kind of place where you need to know what you’re walking into before deciding to go. Whenever you decide to come, first of all, you will wait; it’s very popular. It’s right on the harbor, so a nice setting. The atmosphere is extremely loud and packed. They have live music up until about 8:30 on weeknights. After the band leaves, they play popular music over the speakers, and the loudness goes down a little bit. I came here with two other people and instead of waiting(had waited about 20 min and estimate was 45 min), we tried out the bar area. There is are bar stools and small tables that you can sit at right away, if free. We snagged one. Since eating in the bar area, we had to walk up to the bar and order all our drinks and food. It was okay, but not ideal. I can’t even imagine a waiter in that area, it was too chaotic and loud. We each ordered one quahog as an appetizer and it was delicious! I highly recommend it. For an entrée, I had the salmon and the other two had lobster and crab. The salmon and asparagus risotto was okay, but nothing great. I was told the lobster and crab were pretty average. I also had a cocktail, which was $ 9, pretty much the going rate for most of their cocktails. The cocktail, quahog, and salmon dinner ended up being almost $ 50 with tip. A bit pricey, but you’re paying for the location I guess. Like I said from the start, I’d suggest knowing the feel of the place before choosing. For me, personally, I would not go again. It was so loud(can I say that enough?), I wasn’t really able to enjoy the location(because you sit inside…), and the food wasn’t great. If you’re looking for a rowdy, chill, hang out place(where you don’t mind yelling to communicate), then it’s not a bad choice. All street parking around these parts. Not much more you can say about that.
