BDD is by far my favorite deli in all of Boston, at least that I’ve discovered up until this point. When I was interning last spring, my friends and I stumbled across it for lunch and grew completely addicted to it. It’s an Italian, family-owned deli, hidden on South Street by South Station in the leather district. So good, so good. Where to begin? The food = awesome. I always get the Tuscany(without tomato, personal choice) on freshly sliced foccacia bread. Rosemary chicken, field greens, red onions, pesto mayo, oil and vinegar. Wow. It’s also good on any other type of bread they have, but the foccacia is by far the best. Downside? The foccacia goes quickly, so you have to get there around 12 – 12:30 for prime lunch time. BDD also makes whatever kind of deli sandwich you wish, and offers a wide range of hot entrees, so you really just can’t go wrong in terms of food selection. There really is something for everyone, and the portions are pretty diesel. The family that owns the joint is amazing. They are so incredibly kind, and they are more than willing to chat with you for a little bit as long as the line isn’t too crazy. They also give their own recommendations of what to try, and they are very flexible in trying to meet you dietary needs. You can finish an entire sandwich without feeling obese, a plus, and you will be pleasantly full throughout the afternoon. Good amount of seating, and specialty bar seating on an elevated platform so you can look out the window and make jokes at the people tripping on the sidewalk. Good food and entertainment? My kind of place.

This place is great! It reminds me of a much more Hippie/Small Vermont town sandwich shop than something in the leather district in Boston. I had the Abruzzo(grilled chicken with fresh basil, tomatoes, and mozarella on Foccacio. it was $ 6.99 and was sized to make a lunch and dinner… if it wasn’t so delicious. My other taste testing cohort had the Reuben. He said it was really really good, albeit a bit small,(understood for $ 5.99) We are 100% coming back here. The sandwiches are made to order, even my grilled chicken(many places grill in batch and then have them chilled for speed later) and were enjoyed. The salads looked really really good too. The staff was extremely friendly also. They have seating inside which is a nice feature many places in this area don’t have.

What a great find in the middle of the Leather district. I worked on South Street a couple years back and all the tourists flock endlessly to the South Street Diner. However, Boston Deli Deluxe is the place to go on South Street. The deli is family owned and the food is fresh and delicious. They have a great selection of homemade entrees like meatloaf, quiche, and good olé’ mac and cheese. Also, their specialty sandwiches like the Caprice are wonderful. The mother of one of the staff at the deli makes homemade cookies that you can buy for a few bucks; they are delicious as well.

This place is literally around the corner from my office, so I’m surprised I didn’t discover this place sooner. This is probably my new favorite lunch spot that’s just a hop. skip and a jump away. The staff that work here are definitely family. And the boys are too bad to look at ;) Everyone is incredibly nice, and no matter how assholish some people act towards them, they are always friendly back. There is a smallish selection of sandwiches, but they are basically open to whatever you want. There are also some hot and cold plates. My Rosemary chicken sandwich with tomato, mozzarella, and basil was amazing. The chicken wasn’t dry at all, but moist and delicious. Bread(foccacia) was soft and complimented the sandwich perfectly. And it was HUGE! And only $ 7.34(with tax) it’s a steal. There is also a lot of seating, on two floors even. It’s cool when you sit up top and are able to do some people watching. Highly recommend, and it’s literally seconds away from South Station.
