The chocolates are amazing as well as the rest of their candy. The lady was very nice and told us all about the different candies and chocolates. Definitely would come back.

We made the mistake of visiting this shop one afternoon, and we gained weight just going thru the front door. The aroma makes you light headed and you spend money like a drunk sailor ! When we got home I investigated this place on the internet. Do this, it’s historic history will surprise you to no end. But if your on a diet…

Located in the middle of no where. It is a bit of a drive from the city but if your driving the back highways, it is a nice scenic drive. Staff is very friendly. Inside it is kind of small as the back portion of the building is taken up by the kitchen. They have confections they make in house but they also carry some obscure sodas. This is a great place to stop in if your in the area passing through. The products they make are really good.

On Sunday, my husband wanted to take our new car out on a longish drive to break it in. I vaguely remembered a fudge shop out east someplace, so I looked this place up on Unilocal. It’s in Boulevard, about 50 miles outside of San Diego. You pass the Border Patrol checkpoint and you’re like, how far is this place again? It is a heck of a long drive if you’re not already going someplace out there– like, if you were going to AZ, this would be a good stop. But if you have a couple hours and you’re not doing anything, then why not go get fudge? We got peanut butter fudge, no nut fudge, salted caramel chocolates, vanilla caramels, and a small bag of malted rock candy(they look like multicolored real pebbles! we tricked our kids). It is a tad pricey– we ended up paying $ 26 for the candy– but I don’t really go around pricing candy all the time, so it’s probably a decent price. I mean, it was hard to determine how much it’d be beforehand, since I didn’t see any fudge pricing signage and since they go by weight. Just don’t be surprised is all I’m saying. They do take credit cards(Visa and MC for sure; if you have Discover or AE you might want to call them first).

I’ve been wanting to visit this place for some time and finally got my chance on a birthday road trip. It’s located just east of the Golden Acorn casino and it’s odd as you are driving to find it that this little place of chocolate heaven would be here. The woman who helped us was very kind and helpful. She was patient with my brother’s questions of what fudge was which. We bought an assortment of fudge, chocolates, and sour candies. When we got home, we devoured the fudge. So good! The customer service and the chocolate rank high in my book. Would definitely make the drive out here again for my fudge fix.

Chocolate HEAVEN! Some of the best chocolate I’ve had.:). Very friendly and price is a bit much but worth it. We got doggie treats, 2 chocolate turtles, a s’mores dipped in chocolate, handful of chocolate dipped peanuts, and a small fudge but bar $ 27. Opened only Friday-Monday 10−5pm

I’ve been getting candy here since I was a kid. It’s a hidden East County gem that is worth the scenic drive for delicious homemade chocolates. My favorite is the no but fudge — soooooo good! They also have dog treats as well which is a nice bonus. Sometimes they will have old fashioned candies and it seems like the selection rotates.

Follow up to my rant about the Candy Cottage. They apparently read my Unilocal review and do want to make things right. They have corrected their mistake and I am now a ‘Happy Camper’. I’ll stop by there on my next trip to the Imperial Valley to thank them and purchase some more great chocolate.

My family and I saw this cute little candy shop on an episode of Ken Kramers about San Diego on KPBS. The reviews were amazing and it was a have to stopping place for us once we saw the episode. After a day of off roading at McCain’s, we saw the candy shop and HAD to stop in. It was a cute little shop, but the cute went away real quick when we were greeted by a lady with an attitude of «you’re bothering me». The lady behind the counter had no personality. I let her know that we saw the shop on KPBS. we were out off roading at McCain’s and HAD to stop. She had no enthusiasm at all. She started rambling off the prices of the chocolates like a robot. When we started ordering, her attitude was very dry and the vibe she gave was«are you done yet»? We spent close to $ 50 at this store… and as we left I told my mom these chocolates better be sweeter than the dried out lizard behind the counter. I will say the chocolates were very good… but if you’re looking for small town personality and appeal, FORGETIT. I’ll pass this shop up and never recommend it to anyone. I’m a 4th generation San Diegan and plan to find another quaint candy shop with small town personality and yummy chocolates. I’ll leave this shop in my dust.

I love the Candy Cottage! I have been coming here since I was a kid! That’s over 20 years! Teeny Tiny Little shop with great customer service. I stop here when I have time on my trips to and from Arizona. I even try to tip them, but they always reject my offers!

The chocolate was divine! This place is super cute and super small!!! Seriously, 4 of us were in there at once and one of us had to leave because it was so small. It’s a cute little place to stop for a nibble of goodness on the road.

Good, but really darn pricey at $ 21.95 per pound. I am no choco-snob. It was just fine. My wife says there is better. It wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t $ 22/lb good either. The owner was shocked when one of the customers was shocked at the price. Funny to see one person shocked at the another person being shocked.

I just found out they are open again! They make the best truffles and fudge in the San Diego area. Oh, and the people that work in the shop are so nice. I would go there everyday if I could for a treat!

A little doll house of a candy shop with great sweets, Wisteria Candy Cottage, located in Boulevard, California, population 1,496, is situated along side one of the most scenic drives in California. The folks here were great. They took time to explain all the different candies that they sold, including some fantastic sugar free chocolates(as sugar free chocolate goes). The drive is recommended by Sunset Magazine in its 70 perfect miles article:
Highway 94 runs along the southern border of California and it is just a beautiful drive. One of the must stops of this drive is Wisteria Candy Cottage. So find yourself a honey, put down the rag top and enjoy two of America’s greatest past times cruising and candy… ok three of the greatest past times if you include your honey.
