Blue Ribbon Fruit Store

This store functions not only as the local fruit stand, but it’s also basically the only kosher grocery store on Avenue J. The prices aren’t that great, but it’s convenient for times when I need to grab some items when getting off the train or for when I need to grab the B6 bus. The produce is generally not too pricey, and it’s nice, although nothing like the higher end stores in the area. They have many of the items you’d need to pick up on the fly for a kosher store, but it’s not the sort of place where I’d do my regular grocery shopping. I pick up items here I can’t get in my own area when I’m on the go, such as cholov yisroel milk, Postiv or Kosher Gardens vegetables (they have a good selection of these kosher prechecked bug-​free items, including scallions, celery, dill, parsley, cabbage, and lettuces), kosher cheese, cold cuts, and certain parve items. They even have some Jewish newspapers and magazines. It’s a convenient location, and a well-​stocked store for the size, great on the go, but for your normal shopping, stick to Moisha’s or another larger supermarket.

Very good fruits they have the less expensive fruit outside. There is a delivery and the deliveryman is very nice and careful. The store alsi sells groceries but there are better stores price wise for grocery in the area.

I buy fruits and vegetables everyday so that I can have fresh juice in the morning. I love being able to stop into blue ribbon. The staff is friendly and easy going (even a couple hours before shabbos when the customers get really high strung).
The produce here is always great because they have a good turnover of goods. :) The frozen and grocery selection have only the most common kosher products, but if you’re in a pinch you can count on Blue Ribbon.
PS. If you went in for some thing and you don’t think that they have it, just ask. The store is small, but packed so some items can be hard to see.

I was very pleasantly surprised today by Blue Ribbon. I ordered a fruit platter and a vegetable platter for a party. I had hoped for decent platters to meet the varying gastronomy needs of my eclectic crowd. The platters far surpassed my expectation. They were beautiful in design, large and lavish (and I ordered the small ones!), with fresh fruits and vegetables. They were delicious and, best of all, they were delivered to the table!
