Caputo’s Fine Foods

OMG amazing food. Awesome homemade mozz that makes you feel like a bunch of grandmas made it with their blood sweat and tears. Insanely delicious ricotta — worth the time and the money. This is a must stop spot. Their lobster ravioli is top top notch.

The best mozzarella! Love this place.

One of those hard-​to-​find, old timey style bakeries that serve fresh baked goods daily. The rainbow cookies here are amazzzzzing. The everything bagels here are super soft and can’t be missed. My only gripe is that the prices should be a little lower.

Interesting products, nice Italian imports (faro, rice, oils, pasta, jams), great fresh cheeses like burrata, buffalo mozzarella and ricotta by the scoopful, and friendly service.
I feel very lucky to live nearby.
Increasingly rare, places like this should be awarded and protected by special NYC Icon status.

OMG! Incredible homemade creamy beautiful mozzarella!!! Oh and the homemade ravioli. dreaming of the lobster ravioli. and the seasonal pumpkin ravioli. and the spinach. They make a mean «sunday gravy» to top your ravioli ;) And the insanely delicious grilled marinated artichokes. mmm mmm mmm… I think I died and went to heaven.

This place is great! A real neighborhood salumeria that stands the test of time. Lines are long, food is fresh, bread is delicious.

The best place ever! You cannot find better fresh mozzarella and the smoked mozzarella is made in a smoker, not with liquid smoke. There is a big difference! The cold cuts, fresh pasta, eggplant, breads, homemade sausage. It is truly all good. I don’t know what I would do in this world without Caputos.

In addition to the obvious — mozzarella, pasta, sauce, bread — the grilled artichokes are died-​and-​gone-​to-​heaven good. This shop is a gem.

Every time I eat the fresh mozzarella here I kind of just want to cry a little bit because it’s so good. Every. Time.

Absolute, disorganized chaos in a narrow space, but the mozzarella is worth the experience.

I love this neighborhood staple. The locals refer to Caputos as «the mozzarella guy». Which is where we get all of our mozzarella (always fresh, always creamy and salted if you want it to be), all of our pizza dough and all of our sauces and soups ALL. WINTER. LONG.
Their fresh pasta is great too — we have given it for gifts — a little bit of local Brooklyn to go with your food gift basket.
We have also picked up their locally made pies — Grain Pie for Easter, Lemoncello Cake just because I am obsessed with anything lemon flavored and all of it reminds me of my youth of eating with family — my Great Grandparents and Grandparents and their amazing cooking and baking.
Going into Caputos means you are supporting a fantastic neighborhood shop that has excellent prepared foods and you are making yourself very satisfied with all the Italian comfort foods that are available to you.
You can also pick up freshly made sandwiches here, along with chicken cutlets, eggplant cutlets, parms, roasted veggies and assorted cured meats and Italian cheeses. There is also an olive bar.

Such a great selection of the real deal. One old part of Brooklyn that is hanging on thank goodness. The best mozzarella and home made sauces, great imports, fantastic olives and wonderful bread and pastas. So glad they are there.

Excellent cheese selection, also one of the few places that carries triple A boars head, for those of u that don’t know it’s the best grade of cold cuts, mozzarella is to die for … Brooklyn your atrek for me but when there I always stop at caputos

I really want to like this store, but have walked out twice now after being ignored or having had multiple other customers helped out of order. I won’t be going out of my way to shop here any more.

Part of my Carroll Gardens/​Cobble Hill foodie trifecta. I always try to hit up Caputo’s on my pilgrimages to Los Paisanos and Shelsky’s. Caputo’s is an old time store with a bit of the look and feel of the lost and lamented Sixth Avenue Balducci’s. Most sing the praises of the mozzarella, which is fine, but I plump for the grilled artichokes and prosciutto. Pesto sauce in the refrigerated case is killer. As good as their mozz is, I’d rather have the mozarella di bufala.
The plump semi-​dried figs are well worth a try. The freezer case holds ravioli, tortellini and four varieties of my favorite, tortelloni. On a recent visit the olive display could have used an upgrade, but I won’t deduct a star. New York needs to hang on to stores like this one. Please support it.

CANNOLIS.
I don’t know if they make them there, but it’s gotten to the point where neither I nor my roommate can walk by Caputo’s and not stop in to pick up a couple $ 1 cannolis. It’s become an obsession. They are out-​fucking-​rageous.
Also, the cured meats. This place is one block from where I live. It’s decimating my wallet. I don’t care. It. is. amazing.

First things first: you have to try the fresh pasta. I can’t get enough!
This place is full of delicious Italian food and helpful, no-​nonsense staff. Highly recommended! (Although, it is annoying that they close so early. Sometimes a gal’s gotta get her pasta past 6:30PM!)

Caputos has everything you need if you love Italian. They have the fresh mozzarella, home made pastas and sauces, sausage and prosciutto and other cured meats.
The important thing to know here is that they work in the old butcher method of «pulling the # out of the red pig mouth, and place your order when called.» so don’t get caught looking like a fool with no #!

Hands down, the best fresh mozzarella north of Prospect Park. All of the house-​made goods are great, including their pizza dough and prepared foods. Another thing I love is the rare imported good from Italy and Greece that they have.
This place is run by three generations of the same family. Try weekends whent he kids are working; it’s an amazing experience.

During the week I discovered this place, I went back 3 times! It is AMAZING.
Mozzarella is amazing. Ricotta is amazing. Prosciutto is amazing. Soppresatta is amazing. Manchego is amazing. Parm Regg is amazing. Baguette and ciabatta are amazing! Pickled peppers are amazing! Olives are amazing! I love everything here!!!
Service is great. Everyone is super helpful and knowledgeable about all of their products. Last time I went in and ordered a million different items and the guy was really patient. He also let me try samples of the cheeses before I decided on anything (Everything I tried, I bought! Ha!).
Expect a line on weekends. Weekdays are great and line-​free! I saw people were getting individual sandwiches so I now know what I’m doing next time!
