Cohen’s Fashion Optical

awful. called 3 times to have my glasses prescription emailed to me. each time I was told it would be emailed and it never was. awful service.

I did have a good experience here so I thought I would give them a good review. There are Cohen’s all over the city and I think they vary quite a bit by neighborhood. My old Cohen’s was in a touristy shopping neighborhood so they focused mostly on sunglasses and designer frames. Their facilities for exams were tiny and had old machines and they did not have equipment to do a dilated pupil exam where they look at your retina.
Flatbush is more of a family neighborhood and I like this Cohen’s much better. They have brand new equipment and the doctor is a serious doctor (optometrist). It was a thorough exam and she gave me medicated drops for a mild eye irritation for free. She also pressured me to get a dilated pupil exam because I’m over 40 and have a family history of retinal detachment, It’s $ 150 for that exam if you don’t have insurance so I will have to come back. If you have really serious eye problems or a disease you should probably go to an opthamologist but otherwise I do think you can get a serious medical eye exam at this particular Cohen’s.
They also have a person on staff who only deals with the insurance companies and billing. It seems like they take a lot of different plans.
–The staff are all young women who seem to be friends. That’s kind of nice, it makes the visit more pleasant.
–The doctor has you come back for a free checkup a few days later to make sure the contact lenses are comfortable. My old Cohen’s just sent you on your way after billing you with no follow-​up.
–They seemed a little harried and were running late both times I came. I’m not going to take a star off because I think it’s because they are new to the neighborhood and are taking lots of walk-​in appointments.
* Finally I have to say I wish Cohen’s would just run a real sale once a year instead of constantly having «coupons» with so much small print you never end up saving. They actually do have some nice $ 100 eyeglasses but the deals for the $ 20 eye exams are only for glasses or their house brand of contacts (which are not so great and can only be ordered from them). But this is part of the Cohen’s central office strange marketing strategy and the individual stores are not in charge of it.

cohens is such a great eyeglass place. they are very friendly and kind i reccomend all come here
