Cuccio’s Bakery

I lived a half block away from this bakery in the mid 60's. Sunday mornings were always started with a trip to cuccios for donuts (cream and crumb buns were our favorites). Best Italian bread and rolls. Donuts were six cents each! then you could go two blocks west to Ciros pizzeria for a great slice. You,d get a slice and a small coke for a quarter! Yeah those were the days. Finally you would go one block further west to DiMola's for a real Brooklyn egg cream!

Been coming here since I was a child… we always had cannolis or eclairs in the house from here

The pound cake was so good that I cried while I prayed to God this place never goes out of business. The cheesecake is to die for and the chocolate cupcakes are moist and delicious. Seriously amazing pastries

One of the hidden gems of Gravesend Brooklyn everything here is so yummy just don’t forget to stop by the ATM they only accept cash.

Everything looked really good when I walked in there and I picked up a cheese cake, it was terrible. The cheesecake is supposed to be really creamy, this one was dense and chewy, after a few spoons, I was like, enough, it was so dense that I had hard time swallowing it. We ended up throwing it out.

Cuccio’s Bakery sits on the corner of 320 Avenue X in brooklyn, Ny. You enter and notice nothing flashy, nothing fancy but you look around and notice their slogan which is «the best buns in brooklyn!» I can honestly tell you that yes, they are the best buns in brooklyn! I will gladly recommend the jelly buns (my favorite), nutella donuts, cannoli, napoleon, crumb buns, St. Joseph and their mocha almond cake. Oh how I love their mocha almond cake! If you are a fan of bakeries and pastries or buns for that matter, stop into Cuccio’s Bakery and stock up on their delicious treats. You will not regret it. You do not have to take my word for it, but I know you will love these items once you taste them for yourself. Eat safe and live to eat another day

The prices are soo good i mean 12 $ for a cake is great but it was so sweet :(the whole party said it was too sweet:(like insanely sweet. 2 spoons and i was done

Tried some of their pastries including Rom baba, some of them were ok, but rom baba tasted terrible. I’ve never seen burned rom baba before in my life, it was so bad that I will never buy from them again:/

I practically grew up on Cuccio’s Bakery! Every and any event /​family gathering there was always a Cuccio’s box (or 2) on the Kitchen counter or
Table for us to enjoy. For the longest time I thought Cuccio’s was the only bakery in Brooklyn. Haha!
The buns (breakfast pastries) are the best around Brooklyn. Still made with an old fashioned flare. The dough, even though fried, light & delicious. All the buns available are amazing… one better than another!
The pastries? Delicious. Everything you can think of– they have. Both mini and full size. Cakes? They’re great. All different cakes –flavors and sizes. And the bread… oh, the bread! Brings a smile to my face just typing this– the bread is phenomenal. They even have an old bread slicing machine to slice a loaf for you. Though I rather take the loaf as is. Try the bread!
Though time has passed and things have changed, Cuccio’s still provides an old skool vibe. Check out some of the old pix on the walls! Every time I’m in the area I like to stop by.
The only thing– BRING CASH!!!

Cuccio’s serves up typical Italian and American pastries, cookies, and cakes that you find around Brooklyn. It’s certainly on par with most of the bakeries in the south Brooklyn area in regards to quality and prices. I picked up platter of cookies and a cupcake. The cupcake had a balanced consistency between lightness and denseness; the icing was rich. My only critic is that the visibility of some of the goods was blocked by counter space.

I am sitting I my kitchen in Tucson, AZ, 37 weeks pregnant devouring Cuccio’s rainbow cookies and cannolis. Absolutely to die for and the BEST! When my sister goes back home, it’s a given she is coming back with the goods. Love you sis and love you Cuccio’s!!!

Has become my all time favorite bakery!
About a month ago the baker had come through for me the day before my daughters bday in daycare. Personalized cupcakes for an extremely fair price!
As well as my new favorite donut comes from this place. It is a nutella filled donut that sells out by 8am and they charge only $ 1.25 for this donut which is well worth it. It is at least $ 2.50−3.00 piece.

This place is awesome. Their rainbow cookie chocolate mousse cake is to die for. Absolutely scrumptous.

Bakery is a little bit on the expensive side but everything I always buy here is worth the money

So far I had really good experience with desserts at that place, and we had purchased desserts more than 10 times there.
I believe the issue of not fresh desserts (as some reviewers have mentioned) is that this place is never crowded and unfortunately some products expire before they get sold. But if you get the fresh desserts it’s very nicely made.
If you don’t like that place Michael’s Pastry Shop is an excellent alternative to go to.

I, along with a few others, organized an office celebration today. It would seem we are always finding reasons for cake in our office. My coworker went to Cuccio’s this morning and bought two cakes for the office party. One chocolate frosting with yellow cake in the middle and the other cake is mocha frosting of the same version of the cake. People were interested in the Mocha cake so it was several pieces cut out of it before someone noticed something odd. It was green in the center of the cake… Is it food coloring? No! IT WAS MOLD. OMG. There was mold in the center of the Mocha cake! It was disgusting. If we put the cake back together the center of the cake which about the size of my fist is all green and moldy. That is a lot of mold! It takes some time to grow mold that big in the center of a cake! I would never get cake here again! Looks like the cake was contaminated with mold spores already when it was being assembled. There was nothing on the outside of the cake. I am just speculating but from the physical evidence, it looks as such. The chocolate version of the cake is not fresh either. The cake is dry and hard. The cake was not moist at all. Ugh. In the garbage it went.
My coworker and I called the bakery to let them know what happened. My coworker was so embarrassed by the whole situation since she is a bit more sensitive than me about these situations. My coworker felt like it was her fault… I had to remind her, she is not the one who made the cake! It was Cuccio’s! Both of us were on the phone speaking to the manager on the other side of the phone. We explained the whole situation about how we bought two cakes this morning and when we cut into the Mocha cake, there was mold in the center of the cake. The manager said, «I know, I know, I know.» I was in shock and my jaw dropped. The manager said there has been a refrigeration problem and he knows already. SAY WHAT?! My coworker said to the manager, if you (manager) knew there is an issue with the refrigeration, why would you sell me the cake?! AMEN TO THAT, SISTER! Let’s just say, we are not happy with Cuccio’s. I hope she realizes not to trust Cuccio’s anymore. If a bakery knows there is an issue with the refrigeration, they should not be selling their cakes. It can make someone sick! This is awful. My coworker is still so embarrassed for presenting Cuccio’s cakes to the office. I would chalk it up as lesson learned, NO MORE Cuccio’s especially if this is how they do business. Yuck.

I been buying cakes from this place for a while. One especially today. The last few times the cakes have been dry, stale, and disgusting. I been told my the girls working there that the cakes were fresh when in reality they were old. Not only were the cakes disgusting, the attitudes and personality of the girls behind the counter were not plesent at all. I won’t be going back to this bakery and I do not recommend it to anyone.

Cookies taste bitter and terrible!

Having grown up in Providence, RI, I love old tme Italian bakeries and thus I love Cuccio’s! They have the standard Italian style cookies, cakes and cannolli’s. And unlike another reviewer, I found the people working here to be quite friendly.
It would be nice if they accepted credit cards but if by not doing so, they can hold down their costs (prices), it is fine with me. In an era where the chains are swallowing up the independent bakeries and coffee shops, it is great to know Cuccio’s is where it is!

They don’t skimp on portion size here! Red velvet cupcakes were very moist and icing wasn’t too dense. The fruit tarts were okay… the glaze that holds the fruit together could have been a little bit less watery.

Where do I begin?
It saddens me to say that Cuccio’s has been a disappointment of an Italian bakery for at least the past 15 years solid.
Today, after about 5 years or so of not patronizing because of the history of their sub-​par pastries and desserts, I figured I’d take their current Unilocal ratings into consideration, and pay them a visit.
I ordered rainbow cookies, a brownie, and a cherry cheesecake.
4 rainbow cookies cost me $ 4.25, meaning each 1 ½ inch cookie cost over a dollar. Absolute highway robbery. If the cookies were mind-​blowing, I’d understand, but the cookies were horrific. It saddens me that a place that claims to be an Italian bakery, doesn’t know what a rainbow cookie (also referred to as a 7-​layer cookie) is supposed to be. The usual «7 layers» refers to a chocolate layer on the top and bottom, 3 layers of cake (usually pink, white, and green) and 2 layers of either raspberry or apricot preserves (or a mix of both). Cuccio’s 7-​layer cookies involved 7 layers of cake, which were sacchariney sweet, almost tasted like they were sitting in sugar syrup, had NO recognizable jelly layers (which, quite honestly, is what makes or breaks a rainbow cookie), and just tasted terrible. So minus one star for their cookies.
The brownie was worse. Dry as a sponge that’s been sitting out in the desert for days. Not moist, not chocolately, not fudgey in the least. It was like eating a brick that had a coating of chocolate frosting on top — added in a desperate attempt to save it from being inedible. Terrible. Minus one star for the brownies.
The cherry cheesecake was no better. It was clearly old — I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it was sitting in that display case for at least a week — or at least that’s how it tasted, and that’s most certainly the consistency that the outside of the cake had. If this cake was «freshly baked» then this bakery has an even bigger problem. The cherry topping was your usual canned cherry topping that all bakeries use to top their cheesecakes — so no fault there. But the actual cheesecake was awful. Again, sacchariney sweet, incredibly processed-​tasting, and no underlying flavors of cream cheese — which is (or should be) the basis of a cheesecake. All I tasted was sugar and artificial flavors. I can honestly say that Trader Joe’s frozen NY cheesecake tastes better than this.
And as for previous reviewers who claim the place is «clean and spotless» I’d like you to read their Dept of Health history. Had I read it prior to visiting this place, I wouldn’t have gotten anything from there at all. Their latest review states:
” Filth flies or food/​refuse/​sewage-​associated flies present in facility’s food and/​or non-​food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/​refuse/​sewage-​associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.
Personal cleanliness inadequate. Outer garment soiled with possible contaminant. Effective hair restraint not worn in an area where food is prepared.“
They had a «B» rating and 23 violation points. Not even close to being «clean and spotless».
I would recommend anyone heading to Cuccio’s to seriously reconsider their choice and head to one of the myriad other Italian bakeries in the area. Not just for cleanliness/​sanitation reasons, but also because I’ve never gotten a single thing from Cuccio’s in 20+ years of patronage where I sat back and said «hmm, this is really good!» everything has always been disappointing.
