I walked from Atlantic Terminal(Center) to 5th street just to get to this spot. It’s a spot that’s dear to me for many different reasons: 1. It’s an Irish pub that serves fish & chips(WITHDARKVINEGAR like I used to enjoy in England), and bangers & mash. 2. It’s within walking distance from a main transportation hub. 3. I took in a few world cup games here amongst a joyful crowd and… 4. It was my 2nd stop on my first date here in the good olé U S of A. Today, I almost wept, it isn’t even a slight resemblance of its former self. I was hesitant as I pushed the door because it looked so derelict and closed. It was open. No patrons but the lone barman informed me that they no longer serve food during the week(available on weekends). He said a staff member left so they were unable to… okay. Gone are the days with groups having soft yet passionate debates, couples huddled in a corner making smokey eyes at each other or just someone in for a quick one on their own. They still have darts and a foosball table but as I sipped my Guinness, I couldn’t help but wonder where the other patrons were and how did MY spot manage to stay afloat. You know what? I’m such a sentimental fool that I still love this joint. Some memories just can’t be erased. You could take the patrons and one member of staff away from Cyprus Avenue but you can never take Cyprus Avenue away from Freeyah! The End.

I recently tried to have my birthday party with a large group of people at a nearby bar that wouldn’t take reservations and wound up becoming super crowded in an uncomfortable way(apparently two other birthday parties were going on there simultaneously, of course). So in an attempt to escape the heat and relocate at the spur of the moment, I stumbled upon Cyprus Avenue which was decently empty for an earlyish Saturday night. The solo bartender was super welcoming of our group — very friendly and accommodating! The drinks are cheap, there’s a dart board and foosball, and the layout let everyone in my party spread out and essentially take over the place. Cyprus Avenue was really a saving grace for me and I would recommend to anyone looking for a place to bring a big group in the winter time(when there’s a lack of outdoor patio options everywhere else). Close enough to Atlantic Terminal to even get your non-Park Slope friends to come meet you, too!

Silder heaven – cabbage and corn beef is aawwesome. Dont buy drugs. Buy a slider. Its better for you. Forget the high end stuff… if you wanna get full before and/or after a concert/event this is the place to go to. The food is yummy, the beer is simple and yes –they added a game table(foosball?). Their beer and shot special is a force to be reckoned with. Kitchen doesnt open til 5pm so do the smart thing and dont show up with a pouty face at 4pm.

A very comfortable spot for beers and hearty food. Some is seasonal though, so check before you set your heart on a pie!

It’s kind of like Staten Island. It’s smaller in comparison to the other bars on the block. It’s lacking compared to other places. And it has an odor. It does provide a fun time though, just like my friends from Staten Island. And just like them, Cyprus is a good guy. He’s just flawed. I don’t think it’s trying to be hip, like some other bars around it, however there are other bars who aren’t trying either and offer a better product. The smell is a concern. It might not be their fault, but it’s been there at least twice. It could also get a bit too cramped, but that is due to the limited space. It’s pretty small. They have some good daily specials, and the staff is very friendly. If you’re just looking to pop in before an event, or after an event, at the Barclays, this is an alright option. I wouldn’t base my night around it though.

Brooklyn!!! My first time here. It’s a small bar, however the bartender was full of joy. The Dale beer was whatevs. Choose a different beer with your shot.

Came here after a show at Barclays this weekend while waiting for our train home. It was packed when we walked past it earlier, the fact that 2 people were in it after wards should have been a sign to us. We walked in to a smell of wet dog, mold, dirty dish rag. We said hey maybe its just the fact that its snowing outside and we gave it a chance. Cyprus gets 2 stars for the fact that they had Six Point Sweet Action on Tap and there bartender was very nice. But that smelled lingered all night, at one point I felt like I was tasting it each time I drank my beer. Not very good, would have thought I was drinking from a dirty tap. PS– For an Irish bar. probably a bad sign to see a spiderweb and dust bunnies hanging from the ceiling onto the Bass tap handle.

Where the Irish at? Where the Irish at? Cyprus Ave is where. Cheap HH beer prices, cozy pub interior, affable bartender, large open windows to people-watch. Lots of bearded hipsters. WTF.

*Rating for experience and booze, didn’t try food. Met up here before a Swedish House Mafia concert to pre-game and luckily got a table before it got really packed. The waiter never cleaned up the dirty dishes from the folks before us so that was annoying. But the reason for the low stars is that for a bar that is so tiny and homely I don’t understand how it took the bartender 30 minutes to make a drink. Granted it got crowded before the concert in there but wow that’s pretty unreasonable. Every club and bar in NYC is crowded on a weekend but I never have to wait longer than a few minutes at most!

I had a horrible experience here with friends on a Saturday night. We came in and immediately all heads turned toward us – little did we know that we entered into a bar catering to «real» hipster men only. A few of us went to use the restroom first before getting drinks, which really upset the barman, who proceeded to kick us out of the bar, saying that the money we had already spent was worthless and he would refund the beer as long as we just left. The patrons then started also cussing us out, telling us to «get the fuck out.» Some of the guys at the bar referred to one of my friends as «a skinny bitch.» Needless to say, most of my friends left, a couple of them stayed and it was only until they bought some beers that they got treated with respect. As we waited outside, in the cold, we then got into some discussions about race(the patrons at this place at the time were mostly white) and had to explain microagressions to one of the guys who came out for a smoke. He wasn’t really willing to listen though and was more into proving he was right. We walked to Soda Bar which wasn’t too far and had a MUCH better time. My conclusion: if you are not white, bearded, and male, you are not welcome. But buy a beer and maybe you’ll get my respect. It just wasn’t my crowd.

Stopped in on Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a friend for a drink. Which we caught happy hour. I had the cider beer on tap which was really good and my friend had the Blue Moon on tap $ 4 each. The bartender(with a sexy English accent) which I didn’t get his name, he was really nice and took the time to explain to us why some bottles were upside down. Who said you can’t learn anything from a bar. Towards the back of the bar, there’s a fire place which is really nice for those nasty cold days and nights. It also has a dart board. It’s a nice little spot after the game at the Barclays Center.

kick ass dive bar right by the Barclay’s center. It’s funny when a game lets out and the bartenders are encountered with testosterone laced bro’s looking for yaeger-bombs… but they’ll never complain because I’m pretty sure this place will start minting it’s own money with the foot traffic from game days. I’m not sure I would ever order any food here, but on non-game days, it’s a perfect dive spot. If you want beer and a table to shoot the shit with your buddies, you can’t go wrong here.

I came here after a Nets game. Pretty small bar, but nice. Even though it was small and crowded, it was pretty easy to get through the crowd on a Friday night. Small and intimate, makes great for conversation with a few friends or finding new friends. I would stop by again if I’m around there.

Wandered in here late after the Nets game. Had a great hole in the wall vibe, small but comfortable seating, and a good bartender. Beers were the standard fair and the sliders while small were very tasty. Got the angus beef sliders and corn beef and cabbage sliders. Both had lots of flavor and hit the spot. Might be my go to spot after Barclays from now on for a quick drink and bite

It’s a teeny tiny spot with only a couple of tables where you get spotty service because there are only a couple of tables. That just makes sense. I chuckled when four couples with 3 giant strollers asked if they could come in and the bartender said«no way.» If you are lucky enough to belly up to the 8 person bar or one of the few 2 – 4 tops, you can order some food of the Irish pub variety. Another plus side to the intimacy is that the bartender has few other customers, so your empty is filled fast. I didn’t eat, but a quickly re-filled, happy hour priced cocktail automatically gets 4 star consideration from me.

After having to work a Saturday afternoon, my gf and I moseyed on down 5th Ave, trying to find a low key spot to have a few drinks before our dinner reservations. Like someone previously mentioned, I definitely got that yuppie/hipster vibe when I walked in. However, this place is definitely doing something right. Comfy seating, zero pretentiousness, a varied selection for their draft offerings, a witty Irish bartender and relaxed vibe all lent to an enjoyable stay here up to our dinner plans. My job is taking me out to BK more and more, and if I’m around the way again, I’d definitely stop in again for a pint or two.

I am not usually a fan of dive-y Irish pubs, but Cyprus has 2 things going for it that I like — 1) Thursdays they have Sennium, an Irish sing along and 2) their bar snacks(like cheddar sandwich + side salad for $ 5) are tasty! I agree with the reviews — unpretentious(they serve Rolling Rock in a can for $ 2.50) and cozy as there is a real live fireplace in the back of the pub! With a couch for getting cozy. It is a very nice touch :)
