Five stars are for John the owner. Awesome guy noticed us waiting at the entrance due to a packed house. He invited us to come to the bar for a drink with him while we wait for a table. Great conversation and very welcoming. I come from a family owned restaurant of 30+ years and that kind of personality and welcome you don’t see much any more. The beer was good and the buffalo wings were great. Grilled after they were sauced and I love that! Thanks for a good spot on a snowy day John. Best wishes to you.

Dean Street is one of our go-to spots for dinner or brunch. The food is always delicious and the service friendly. It’s a very laid back, neighborhood-vibe but not dive-y. It’s kid friendly which we love, but also equally great for an adult night out. The catfish is my favorite but brunch or dinner, I’ve always had great meals and experiences here!

This place is great. It’s very homey and the staff is friendly. It’s kid friendly with a laid back vibe. The food is delicious and southern. I’ve had the catfish, burger, and shrimp and grits for dinner. The burger was perfect, juicy, and big. I crave the catfish all the time. I’ve also been to brunch and love the grits. Only complaint/comment is that it is a little bit expensive(like maybe 2 too much per plate) but worth it for the good food and ambiance. Nice neighborhood place!

Dean street is an A-okay brunch spot. My roommate and I decided to meet a friend here on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were both very hungover so no drinks were ordered and before my meal here all I wanted to do was curl up in my bed and sleep for the next week. Our server was fairly friendly he bought us coffee right away, being hungover that’s a total plus and he helped my friend decide what she wanted, she couldn’t decide between 3 different things. I had a veggie burger with blue cheese. It was very yummy and they gave me enough food so I could have leftovers, which is always a gigantic plus in my book. My roommate had the red velvet chicken and waffles, he has never had chicken and waffles before so clearly he hadn’t fully lived until he had his first bite of these, which he said were awesome by the way and he highly recommends trying. My other friend enjoyed her food too. I thought the restaurant was pretty cute all together, I love how it was decorated, it had a southern feel to it. The staff was friendly and it wasn’t overwhelmingly busy for brunch. Plus the food was great and it cured my hangover!

Nice place. Had their fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and collard greens. Large portion. Would recommend getting soul folks hot sauce. They had Mexican and Asian hot sauce. Server was pleasant. Would return if in the area!

I hosted a baby shower at Dean Street and it went so well! John, the owner was super helpful and easy-going. He stayed in great communication and was more than happy to do whatever we wanted. He allowed our group to have the entire back room for the event so we could walk around and mingle as desired. The staff was amazingly accommodating and fast. The food was delicious, hot, and fast — definitely order the biscuits! The staff was quick to keep drinks in hands and everyone had a great time and commented on how great the place and staff were. I’ll definitely be back for meals and drinks but it’s one of the easiest and best venues for a special event! Highly recommend! Thanks again, Dean Street!

I have to change my 4 stars to a 5. Last weekend the hubs and I went to trusty Dean Street to relax and enjoy some fantastic burgers. I forgot my wallet on my chair, but did not notice until the following day. John, the owner was there alone when I dropped by during closed hours. He happily let me, and my bike, come in to look around; but he quickly located my wallet tucked away safe in a drawer behind the bar. It was 100 percent in tact. Thank you Juan,(who had been our server) and everyone on the Sunday night crew. We are moving across the country soon and replacing everything would have been a nightmare. It got me thinking that over the last five years and at least 30 visits, we have always had a friendly person greet us and take care of us. I took you for granted, Dean Street!

I love this place. I don’t get to come as often as I’d like, because I don’t live in the area, but the bartenders are great and the food is solid. The happy hour is great, the ecstatic hour is phenomenal, and the Unilocal check in deal is amazing! I recommend it to all my friends who live in the Clinton Hill/Prospect Heights/Bed-Stuy area!

I can’t begin to tell you about the amazing experience we had here! John, the owner, worked with us to create an amazing private event in the back room of the bar. He made everything so seamlessly easy to organize. Everyone loved the food — especially the wings!!! And we ate heaps of fries! Beer selection was awesome. The servers, both Rachel, were amazing. So attentive and quick to step in when we accidentally made a mess! She made thing so simple and knew what we needed before we needed it. Highly recommended for a chill night out, or a crazy private party! John will make you feel welcome and like his place is yours.

The menu looks like a good idea but everything was really really bland. Ordered the Carolina Sunshine BBQ& eggs. Nice portions and looked good but bland. My friend had the andouille & crawfish omelet. Small portion plus bland. The Bloody Mary was good but every other single thing… No herbs. No seasoning. No salt. No thanks.

Service was fine. Food was mediocre at best. I enjoyed the wings fried in duck fat. I should have stopped there. The crawfish Mac and cheese was bland and tasteless. The noodles were boiled too long and without any salt. My son had the roasted chicken dinner and the collard greens taste like vinegar. I was very disappointed. Probably won’t eat here again unless I’m coming for drinks and ordered the wings. That seems to be more their speed.

Still looking for the dish that blows me away… but we keep coming back for the elegant back room and great beers on tap. I’ll start by telling you what to avoid: The chicken dumpling soup had to be sent back and the blackened catfish was all grease and no flavor. HOWEVER — you’ll want to try the fried pickles, the burger and the shrimp and grits are passable. It’s also in an area with few restaurants so on a snowy or rainy night this is our place!

I’ve watched Dean Street go through several wardrobe changes over the years, from bar and grill to karaōke bar to watering hole for baby boomers and currently restaurant/brunch spot. Dean Street has been hanging out in my bookmarks strictly for a brunch review. As a first time bruncher here, I couldn’t wait to try the short rib hash with poached eggs and grits. This dish looked and sounded so delectable in pics. I should’ve waited. Dried out chunks of beef tossed with cubed potatoes, topped with two poached eggs and a scoop of guacamole was very unexciting. It was also borderline cold but I couldn’t find the patience to ask to have it reheated. Grits were pretty tasty and thick, not loose and soupy like some restaurants serve. My Rockstar claims to have loved his food but I turned down his offer to sample bacon off his plate that looked like jerky so I dunno. Two servers forgot to bring our beers and almost forgot NOT to charge us for them although they never arrived. Note-You ain’t getting any bottomless mimosas at brunch. Dean Street’s pros are a homey atmosphere, beautifully vintage appearance and a bar area where everybody knows your name.

Came here on a bitterly cold winter day at noon. The sky was clear and sunny, which makes this a great afternoon spot if you like a bright open space. For awhile, it was just me and the bartender. I made awkward attempts at conversation as she inventoried the booze. She did have good taste in food, as she recommended the three items on the list that looked good, and named them in the order that I would get them. I ended up with the shrimp po boy. This place has a Southern vibe, so, for you Southerners or South-o-philes, put this place on your to-do list.(It was vastly disappoint anything short of actually being in the South, but wake the F up, you are in New York, take what you can get). Also on the vibe is the music, which ranges from R&B-ish to soul to blues Southern-type music. The po-boy was pretty good. The shrimp was not good at all, but I blamed that on the winter. I’d give it another try when it’s «in season». The rest of the po-boy was really good, however. Great, crispy bun, spicy, tangy, dill sauce. Mmm. Good stuff. You’re not in New Orleans but it may bring you back there for a moment. I ate my lunch and downed like three Bell’s Two-Hearted ales bc it’s my favorite. I was also not the only single gentleman eating his lunch here alone. Seems to be the thing to do at Dean Street. I have no idea what this place is like at night. Great for a quiet, good lunch.

Dean street as described by wife is considered«Solidly mediocre». I know that sounds awful, and in some way it is. Yet, in truth it kind of epitomizes this place fairly well. The ambiance is nice, the prices are fair, and the service was good. They do all the effort things well. It is just that the food options are a bit run of the mill, except for the crayfish omelet(which sounded interesting, but my waitress sold me more on the burger). I ordered the burger as well as a biscuit with the pepper jam, and my wife ordered the avocado and cheddar omelet for brunch. All the food was good, except the jam was a bit strange. It grew on me after a few additional bites, but I could do without it. In short, this is a good place if you live in the area but definitely not worth the trek if you have to travel. You can go to your local brunch spot and probably get the same food.

I celebrated my birthday with brunch for 17 at Dean Street and it was wonderful. Our waitress was amazing and most of the food was wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised to see a kitchen of 2 handle such a busy little place. Kudos to our waitress! She couldn’t have done a better job. There is a bar. Area to the front, and an additional dinning area to the back where you can see into the kitchen. I ordered the short rib hash and it was delicious. My friends also enjoyed the crawfish omlette and the cheddar/avocado. Several people said that the French Toast was perfect but they were disappointed that there were only 2 slices. The shrimp and grits were only«ok» but the French fries and brussel sprouts were delicious. All and all a great experience except for when we were leaving. There was another waitress who was very VERY rude to our group. Her attitude left much to be desired and left a bad taste on an otherwise wonderful experience.

I wanted to try something different from my usual chain restaurants and their processed nutrition. I stumbed onto this quaint spot that carries the name of the street that it’s on. I wanted the full experience so started off with the chicken quesadillas and then I went on to get the roasted chicken, both dishes were mouth-watering and delicious, the food was great. The only thing that overshadowed the delicious food was the passive-aggressive blackbelt waitress, Mary. When I asked for her name as a common practice I do with all waitresses, she sarcastically told me her name in such a way that was so stealthy, I didn’t know I had been insulted until 5 minutes later. Then when she brought my food out I asked her about a dish that i also ordered, she reminded me that she only had two hands. It seemed rude I didn’t want to make a scene, I asked her if I offended her and she said no All in all the food and the environment was solid, but that waitresses attitude is enough to repel me from this establishment.

Dean Street is a solid pub, which has good beers on tap and great food. Dean Street has an old charm to it’s building which can only come from being around forever. It’s not the largest place in the world but it can accommodate large groups of people. Though expect to wait if you are late to brunch. They have two televisions on in here so it’s not a bad option if you want to catch a game at the bar. It’s basic bar food along with some classic NOLA inspired dishes. Gumbo, Po Boys, etc. They have a great lunch deal Monday-Friday $ 12 dollars for a three course meal. The food is a little pricey for the neighborhood but it’s worth it, especially the catfish. The owners are great guys. John is the man. If you’re ever in the mood for some New Orleans style cuisine come on down to Dean Street.
