On a Sunday afternoon, we ventured out to Flatbush Ave. in Brooklyn to look for some jerk chicken. We didn’t do much research beforehand and it was hot and muggy as hell. We ended up ducking into Peppa’s Jerk Chicken but with no seating and no ac, it wasn’t what we were looking for. Ideally, we would have found a guy with a drum grilling up chicken and pork, and maybe some goat curry with enough spice to make you sweat even more. Instead we went to Gordan’s Bakery and Jerk Chicken b/c they had a few tables inside. I had goat curry with rice and beans and he had jerk chicken with rice and beans. I think this was probably the disappointing meal of my trip. The goat curry was tender and not too bony but was not spicy. Sweetish and sticky, tasting reheated, the jerk chicken wasn’t like the scorching grilled chicken we have had in Jamaica. Rice and beans were not worth mentioning. I chalk this up to our lack of research and lack of motivation in the hot weather.
