I stepped into this place, and was surprisingly good. great yellow rice with spicy seasoning they serve. Additonally, good home made style fried chicken, which is not greasy and batter was crunchy enough but also flaky, YUM. They had a extensive menu. cornbread, rice beans, fish, etc. I’ll def check out more of the menu. seating is bare bones, but good for quick lunch and they have take out. Now that I found this, after gosh, sooooo many years at prospect park. This will be my lunch stop at day at the park. quick 2 blocks from the park by parkside ave on flatbush.

The taste and set up is very similar to the Golden and Silver Krust«fast food» restaurant chains but when it comes to Jamaican food, you can’t afford to stray too far if you want to keep your Jamrock customers. This«restaurant» isn’t very well kept but I’ve used the term restaurant loosely, as it’s more a take away or sit on either one of the three tables, eat quickly and leave spot. There is also a side bar/counter made out of exposed wood with wooden stools running aling one side of the shop. What I didnt like about that was it looks like pinewood(at least the color) and kept all the food stain of previous customer’s spillage. There’s no proper dinning in here. Their jerk chicken and rice tasted nice. Maybe it’s just me but I’m a stickler for cleanliness and I couldn’t get why more pride isn’t put into this FOOD business. Two stars for the cashier who is friendly(if not a little too chatty) and one star for the food. The End.

From since moving here three weeks ago this place is my go to lunch and dinner spot. $ 5 for a small take away meal heaven to my pocket book and my tummy. Must go grocery shopping but JJ Jamaican Restaurant makes it so hard.

Friendly, and accommodating. Food was good. Had Tripe with macaroni salad and caloo… My GF had stew chicken with rice and peas. Both were good.

Jerk chicken was pretty good, but a tad overpriced. They didn’t have any special juices and I ended up getting a $ 3 cup of the sweetest(in a bad way) lemonade ever. It also appeared like the medium sized portion had just too much rice. So it I went back I would get a small portion and I wouldn’t order the overly sweet«Juice».

Rice and peas is true perfection – never mushy or undercooked, perfect grains. The macaroni salad is also exceptional with a hint of dill. Can’t go wrong with an oxtail, stew chicken or jerk chicken order. Their cabbage is not that great but you can try that Mac salad or fresh salad as an alternative.

I passed by this place so many times, but never went in until I read about the oxtail over rice on Unilocal.I ordered it to go on a weekday night — it was pretty empty inside except for a few people and one other person ordering to-go, and there was no wait for food. There are trays of food at the front counter. The server scooped the rice in the front and went to the back for the oxtail. I got a small order of oxtail rice for $ 7 and it was great. The rice and beans were flavorful with a little kick, and the oxtail was tender and delicious. I would go back for it again and to try some of the other things on the menu.

This has become my go to spot for cornmeal porridge(a staple from my summers as a kid in Jamaica). I like the simplicity of it all, no 20% gratuity for a party of 4 or more, no reservation needed, and no «sit at the bar while we get you a table». Just simple food with complex taste that takes be back to the islands.

My go-to spot for oxtail & rice. It’s always seasoned perfectly, with generous portions that don’t break the wallet.

Wooho I was able to find this speakeasy Jamaican spot while roaming in the area. This resturant cooks like home cokked food. The place is not fancy and has a buffet type arrangement. I had the goat curry, rice/beans with comes with plantains and salad. I think it was like 6 bucks. The food was so tasty and flavorfull. I got the small size portion even then it was a lot of food, yes a lot of Good Food. The meat was so tender and it was falling off the bones. The service was decent too, the staff behind the counter had a smile on thier faces :) Come to JJ’s for some authentic food which will not break your bank. JJ’s is my new go to place for my jamaican food cravings fix! FYI– They have $ 10 minimum on credit card.

Decent local neighborhood spot for take away. Went with the stew chicken(nicely developed flavors, with tender chicken) and jerk chicken(good amount of heat, but not overly spicy), rice/beans and slaw. Solid overall, but nothing super memorable.

Alright JJ’s you take over the restaurant where Gordons used to be and this is what you do!!! First the oxtail, you only give 4 meager pieces over rice with a teaspoonful of gravy? Nah mon! Then the rice n peas has cooked rice along with undercooked rice?!? What happened, at the last minute you realized you didn’t have enough rice so you mixed uncooked in with the cooked and figured knowone would notice? Well I noticed JJ, I noticed. The gravy is key to a meal, especially if said customer asks for extra. There are too many Jamaican restaurants in this area for any customer to settle for mediocrity. I for one won’t be a repeat customer when I can walk a few blocks over to my beloved Soldiers Restaurant and get the real deal!

5 stars for the food. I usually get the oxtail with rice & peas and the oxtail is just fall-off-the-bone deliciousness. I’ve also tried most of the chickens over rice(stewed, jerk, etc) and nothing has ever disappointed. This place also has the best beef patty in the whole area and that’s saying a lot since it’s mostly West Indian places all down this strip of Flatbush. So as for the –1 star? Their awesome beef patties are always gone by the time I can get there after work(around 6:30) and the service is quite slow. If you can get there early and stand a little wait time, prepare for yums!

I was on my way to a spot I usually go to for my Ackie and salt fish and they were closed down. So since I was in the area I saw a review for exactly what I wanted. I asked the tall light skinned lady for a small Ackie and salt fish, which she says’s I’ll see what I can do. Ok, gee thank. She comes back with the food but had the broiled dumplings with the Ackie. That’s my fault I should of specified fried dumplings. The food taste Ok. Extremely oily, I mean oil everywhere on the bag. As the other reviewer wrote I too felt the lady at the counter has something against African– Americans. She just didn’t give a warm welcome I felt. However, Ackie and salt fish is hard to find and for $ 6 it did the job but had better.

I’ve only eaten breakfast at this spot and the Ackee & Saltfish is DELICIOUS and they make the best fried bake I’ve ever tasted. Not hard and doughy but soft and flaky. I think the fried bake was what impressed me the most about this spot. I have not tried dinner or lunch there yet, but… I can swear by the breakfast. You will NOT be disappointed. Oh…just one thing. I had to take away a star because there is this light skinned chick behind the counter with a permanent screw face. It could be the whole Caribbean vs African American b.s. thing but sometime whenever I see she is behind the counter I don’t even go in there.
