OMG… got to be the worst food on 86th street. Ordered the preserved veggie with minced meat rice casserole. Absolutely tasteless. Ordered a few days later to make sure it was not just an «off» day in the kitchen. The golden sand porkchop over rice was nothing special… total disappointment. Sauce was from a jar in the local Chinese grocer. Stir fried kway teow noodle was horrible. What the hell. it was cooked in curry sauce and no Chinese sausage. I had this in many places for many years. No curry ever. No even in the pix on the menu. Chel decided to be creative. Roasted pork noodle in soup… soggy and bland. No going back ever.

Sweet tooth always does it for me. Cakes are beautifully designed, taste is hitting your tung the right way. Really worth to try on your lunch break

This place has to be extraordinary if it has two other locations in Brooklyn, right? Nope! I didn’t find the casseroles(what they are known for) to be that special. The eel in the eel casserole was really yummy. It covered the whole top surface of the clay pot. But the problem is the chefs do not mix the two together so the rice has minimal taste to it. It looked nice but am i eating with my eyes or with my mouth? The rice had no flavor so I had to add soy sauce. Everyone else seems to like that simple flavor. I was told by the waiter that the casseroles typically take 15 – 25 minutes to cook. I didn’t time them, but it felt about just right since I wasn’t complaining. The waiter wasn’t attentive. There was only one waiter on the top floor for the most part and occasionally I would see two or three. We sat down at our table for ten minutes and no one asked what we would like to drink.

3.5 stars. Food is good but service can use a bit of a facelift. Food: YASSSSS! Rice casserole was so fulfilling! The preserved meat was on point. Wonton noodles was good too. however the size of their wontons was a big flop. In other words… the size of their wontons are perfect sizing for a KIDSMEAL! Service: The restaurant was considerably busy on an early Sunday evening and with four waiters walking around, it clearly wasn’t enough. At times we felt like turtles who were stretching its head/neck out in order to find a waiter. I had to ask for vinegar from three different waiters several times before I got it. As for the refills on tea? You’re gonna need to ask for it because they’re not attentive enough to walk around refilling as needed. Cleanliness: This place was surprisingly really really clean. Towards the end of dinner, we even noticed how thoroughly the man was hosing down the front section of the store which is where the roast pork, chicken and duck are hung. No greasy walls or windows! Even the cutting board was rinsed several times. Their cleanliness was noteworthy only because typical restaurants like these aren’t as thorough in their cleaning.

I went out with family to try this place out for the first time. It was pretty filling. Their interior décor upstairs was pretty nice and with lots of mood lighting and plenty of space for large groups. I recommend their signature pork chop clay rice pot was delicious, sweet, tangy and spicy. Yum. Their soy sauce chicken is a must have, it was pretty fresh and juicy. Perfectly seasoned. Their eel and rice clay pot was delicious too. The Dong Po Pork, or whatever it was called was okay, I mean it was tasty but too fatty for my liking. Their other red wine beef vegetable clay pot was delicious too but overly black peppery unless that’s your preference. Then go for it! And going down the stairs in wedges was very daunting. If you ever decide to have a large party don’t wear heels unless you trying to die right after a filling meal. But other than that, I would definitely come back.

The service here is horrendous. We decided to come here to grab a quick early dinner on a Sunday night, but it was anything but quick. Ok, let me just get this out of the way, the food here may possibly be better than the other two locations. I never had an issue with their food, nothing amazing. I ordered the wontons in soup this time, but honestly couldn’t remember if they’ve always been so tiny; I don’t like that it’s not very authentic in terms of size/wonton skin to meat filling ratio. They’re pretty good though. The seating and décor is exactly the same as the other locations, but this one feels a little less cramped. You don’t expect good service regardless of which King’s Kitchen location you go to, but everyone deserves decent service. It wasn’t very busy and there were times where several waiters were just standing there. The entire time we were there, I only had one cup of tea and I left our empty cups on the side of the table so they could see it. We asked for the check, acknowledged and then ignored. We asked for it again and then took out money to pay it. We wait for a while and no waiter comes around so we thought we would bring it to the register to pay, apparently not an option. We have to wait for a waiter to do it! The waiters here are doing a terrible job and customers shouldn’t have to wait on them. Please fix your system and train your wait staff. I don’t recommend eating here and I won’t be back.

This kitchen cooks/prepares their food only with MSG… why you may ask? because all cooks/chefs who Smoke cigarettes lose their taste buds after years of tugging on the cancer sticks and after the death of the buds .we the patron must suffer with MSG flavored meals. I’m sick and tired of not tasting my food. What’s wrong with a little sprinkle of kosher salt or sea salt… S — - iodinized salt. Anything but MSG!!! i

*Take-out Only* *3.5 stars to be exact* When I found out there was a clay pot restaurant opening up in my neighborhood, I was ecstatic! My boyfriend & I have been here twice for take-out during lunch time. I’ve never been here during the week, but during lunch hours(12PM — 3PM) on the weekends it is crazy packed! I didn’t know that there was additional floor for seating/customers, but the main dining area is quite cramped and small. The décor is a little bit nicer than your average Chinese restaurant and very warm and bright. My boyfriend and I have only had their clay pot rices(to go) and generally it has taken about 20 – 25 minutes for it to be ready. We usually leave our numbers with the women that work at the counter and they give us a buzz when it’s done. I’m not sure what the policy is now, but they have given us the pots without an extra charge for it. Taro with preserved meat in rice casserole — Absolutely love this one in every way and it’s also pretty cheap — about $ 6-$ 8(I forgot the actual amount). It really smells amazing when you open the lid. It smells like meaty heaven. The meat is obviously quite delicious and yummy. I love eating the crusty parts of the rice and it tastes especially good with the fat and juices from the preserved meat. YUM! Salted Fish and Minced meat in rice casserole — My boyfriend usually gets this in the last two times we’ve been here. This clay pot rice is very good in terms of taste and quality too, but a little too much salted fish in my opinion. The rice isn’t as crusty in this version. Sadly, we haven’t tried any of the other rice casseroles or dishes, but everything sounds good and looks good. I think I would much prefer doing take-out from here because it doesn’t look very comfortable to eat in the tight space of the restaurant. We will definitely need to return though to try out the other dishes or different rice casseroles

Came here on their grand opening day about 3 months ago but it was too crowded so we just left. It seems like they added a 2nd floor dining area to accommodate the large volume of customers. The décor is a step-up from your usual Cantonese restaurants since the chairs/tables are fancier and the servers are a little younger. Nevertheless, I found the place to be very cramped. It’s a huge struggle trying to walk between the tables since they’re so close to each other. The servers were a little inattentive but were nice for the most part. Beef chow fun– The chow fun was very delicious but a little on the oily side. I was not a fan of the beef since I found it to be too rough and salty. Preserved meat casserole– They are known for their casseroles but I wasn’t particularly impressed. It just seemed like the rice and the meats didn’t mix well. The rice was bland and the meats were kind of salty even though we adequately mixed them together. I feel like they really nailed the crispy bottom layer of rice though. Poached egg with beef casserole– I had expected the beef to be minced but it turned out to be sliced instead. Minced beef tastes way better than sliced beef in these types of rice casserole dishes! The word poached is rather misleading because the egg was not poached, but more like raw and you have to mix it with the warm rice to cook it. Overall, I would say the food here is passable but not memorable enough to have me coming back. I’ve had better beef chow fun elsewhere and I feel like my mom could make a better tasting rice casserole at home. $ 25 for 3 people that left me satiated but that’s the magic of Cantonese food lmao.

Typical new Chinese restaurant on 86st street. A good thing is they have rice casseroles! I don’t know anywhere else in Brooklyn that has it. As a matter of fact, I only know certain places in Chinatown have it. The food here is alright. They’re not that great. The rice rolls were kind of blend and didn’t have much taste. Their casseroles are pretty small compared to the other places. I think it’s meant for one casseroles per person, especially if you’re a guy. We had three people and ordered two casseroles and other dishes to share since we wanted to try different kind. I was kind of upset that they didn’t have much choices of vegetables, expect for lettuces and one other kind. I had the salted fish and minced meat rice casseroles and the poached egg with beef rice casseroles. They were both not very tasteful. It wasn’t tasteless, but it wasn’t very tasteful either. I had to add a lot of soy sauce on it. You would think the salted fish and minced meat would be salty enough and had enough flavor. but they didn’t. But, if I were to crave for some rice casseroles and didn’t want to travel to Chinatown for some, I would come here.

Heard abt this place and decided to try it. My sis had the singapore chow mei fun and i had the roasted duck thigh w roasted slice pork over rice. Their coffee and milk tea are both very good, im pretty picky when it comes to these drinks becos usually its too sweet or too light or not brewed well. The roasted meats were good but i felt the duck was alil skinny so not much meat to chew on. I tried my sister’s mei fun and it was definitely good, very big portion. We also ordered some food to bring home, a clay pot rice w chinese sausage and more duck and pork lol. They give u the clay pot when u order to take out but the one we had was alittle beat up so we threw it out after finishing. The décor of the restaurant is definitely bright and newly constructed. the seats are comfortable. Customer service was good — no complaints becos we got whatever we asked for.

Legit and authentic. Best rice casseroles I’ve had in a while(but pick your toppings wisely!). It’s casseroleS because I went with a group, and each time the rice had its perfect crust. The dimsum is done on the spot, not like the traditional ones where it’s premade and pushed in carts for 1 – 2 hours. I never knew there could be such a taste in difference. it’s very joyous. Note: Casseroles can take 20 – 30 mins. Be ready for that. Go a little before peak time and you’ll be good.

One of the best casserole places in brooklyn, you have to wait because thats how long it takes for them to make it. Dont complain about the wait. And its always full house when ever i pass by. The restaurant style is more for the older generation. Food is great, price is cheap, and THEREISNOTAX. What else can you ask for? +2 star for cheap prices +1 star good food +1 star for no tax +1 star for on point casserole

Came here on a Friday night and was seated upstairs. We sat for 10 mins waiting for the menu and was not given one until we asked. The waiter literally threw down take out menus to us. Tea came 10 mins later and then he took our order 10 mins later. He informed us that many things were not available which is a shame for a restaurant. Even worse, he was not willing to go downstairs to get us special iced drinks. The rice casseroles had a 30 minute wait. When some of the food arrived, he informed me that my congee was no longer available and a rice casserole was sold out. You think he could’ve told us this earlier? We had to order something us and not to mention, he forgot a rice casserole dish on our the original order. The service is poor and upstairs is understaffed.

I order takeout and it was at 9pm. I order one dish for takeout. I waited almost half an hour for it. There was others in the restaurant eating but I really think they should also value the customer who is taking out and not cook their food last minute. While I was waiting, a couple came in and they order a bunch of food. Guess what, their food came before mine. When my food finally came, I asked for hot sauce. They were busy talking to each other that I saw they did not put the hot sauce in. When they hand me the bag, I have to ask again for the hot sauce. To make matter worse, that waiter did not even know where the takeout hot sauce was. I was not in the mood at all after that. The waiter or staff should be more organized and not have the customer waited 30 minutes for a dish they can cook in 10 minutes.

I’ve been to both this location as well as the one in Sunset Park. I’m happy to see traditional Cantonese food done right. This is probably the best place in all of NY to get your roasted pork, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork. They know how to render the fat to perfection, while leaving the meat perfectly tender. Other Chinese restaurants tend have uneven cooking, with some parts overcooked. The rice casseroles are a must try, I’ve tried all of them except the eel. The rice is perfectly charred on the bottom and edges, the way a real rice casserole dish should be. Order take out and it comes with the clay pot it was cooked in! Return the pot next time for $ 1 return, or just keep it for your own cooking. On my last visit, I tried the special dish Dongpo pork. It was amazing, melt in your mouth perfection. Can’t wait until their bakery opens next door! I love their contemporary style.

Relatively new branch of this rice casserole restaurant, joining establishments on 8th Avenue in Sunset Park, Fort Hamilton in Dyker Heights, and Manhattan Chinatown. Their next door bakery is still under construction but the restaurant is very much in business. With a deep, dining room space, it is modern with clean lines. Table seating is fairly comfortable, and easily movable to accommodate groups of different sizes up to about 8 — 10. Straightforward service as expected of Chinese restaurants. For lunch and dinner, the thing to have are their rice casseroles. Similar to their other branches, these are very good ones, the rice fluffy with a nice crispy layer against the earthenware pot they are served in. Toppings are generous and not excessively oily or salty. Most choices seem to be good. These include tender frog, subtly flavored preserved vegetable and minced meat, meaty spare ribs and Chinese sausage, and eel. The casseroles are served in their pots if ordered for take out for an extra $ 1, refundable if returned. For breakfast, the rice rolls are the way to go. Freshly made to order, there’s a huge variety. One of the best is the delicate rice roll with plenty of dried shrimp and scallions incorporated. The skin is thin and decently smooth. Others that are thicker are rolled around minced beef, shrimp, preserved vegetable and minced pork, roast pork, and thousand year egg and lettuce. Some are wrapped around their freshly fried and excellent fritters, while others are rolled and sliced, then topped with beef brisket(which was not so good). Wontons or dumplings are housemade and are fine, decent for the area. The soup noodles and congee are also solid versions if not especially notable. They have roast meats(siu mei) of fairly good quality, including roast pork, char siu, soy sauce chicken, and cuttlefish. A great choice for rice casseroles, rice rolls, and roast meats. Come early, it gets crowded quick.

Make sure you come early or else you’ll be waiting outside for a table! We arrived at around 6:30 and managed to snag the only 4 person table left. The tables are really close together so it felt like we were sitting with the 2 other people at the next table. The congee here is pretty good — it’s super cheap and you get a huge portion(large container for $ 3). The pork + preserved egg is my favorite cause they use ground pork instead of huge pork slices like most other places. The rice crepes are also a very large portion. My favorite is the shumai rice crêpe with the fried dough on the inside. Super delicious and super filling! The clay pot rices are also very good — they’re a huge portion size and if you order to go, you get to keep the clay pot!

This place just opened on 86th but this isn’t their first location. They are supposedly known for their casserole dishes. Stopped by here for takeout to see what the hype was about as there were many people lining up to get in during lunch time. THEOKAY: — Yellow Eel Rice Casserole [$ 7.95] + $ 1 for the bowl — This was alright. Kings Rice Restaurant on 18th ave makes a meaner and more delicious eel rice casserole. Problem — they burnt the rice on the bottom of the bowl. The one good thing about this casserole is that the rice they used was very good quality. The rice is smaller and finer compared to other places. FYI — It takes approximately 30 minutes for them to make a rice casserole so call ahead and order in advance if you are doing take out. CONS: — Place is kind of small. Super squishy in the front door area. It really reminds me of all the restaurants on 8th ave where its really crowded and small.
