Melt Massage & Bodywork

I’ve been going to Melt throughout the second and third trimesters of my pregnancy for prenatal massage and love it. I was seeing Julia for the majority of this time, who I would highly recommend, although she’s currently taking some time off while she has her own baby. Julia is wonderful though — a great, deep touch and understand of specific prenatal needs. Since Julia went on leave, I’ve tried a number of their therapists, all who have been pretty good. I would definitely recommend Kate as well.
Melt’s rates are very reasonable for massages in Brooklyn/​NYC (which can be crazy) and it is a small, local business, which I love to support, rather than a big spa or chain.
As some Unilocalers have mentioned, there is no receptionist and that can be a little awkward when you walk in and inconvenient if you’re calling and need to get ahold of someone quickly, but for the most part, it hasn’t been an issue and they are very responsive via emails to book appointments.
Overall, I’ve had great experiences going to Melt over the past months and plan to continue to do so following my pregnancy and also for future prenatal massages.

Their yoga class is amazing. The customer service is fabulous. I was so in love with their bathroom. The ambiance was just perfect.

Best massage in Brooklyn hands down. I’ve been here several times and always have a great experience. They ask you lots of questions before you start and pay special attention to whatever you might be feeling that day. I’ve also done prenatal yoga here which is great though don’t forget to book in advance — it fills up! The place is super cute and everyone here is friendly, too.

I absolutely love this place for so many reasons. They took extremely good care of my husband post back surgeries and were very attentive to all of his many medical needs.
I also love prenatal yoga here and have been coming on Thursday nights throughout my pregnancy. It’s been an extremely helpful class both for calming purposes and providing some flexibility all around.
However, my major complaint (and star deduction) is that they don’t have someone as a receptionist. I understand being a small business but the nearly 10+ times I have tried to book a massage I have been frustrated by the inability to actually get in touch with a human!
Update: email is the key and they took amazing care of me last night using some acupressure to help try and induce labor — I can’t recommend this place enough to propel.

Took the Couples Thai Massage Workshop and it was so amazing.
Yves was very knowledgeable about the body and how to massage it in a way that connects you and your partner. It’s a very small class so it’s more personal. Three couples maximum. As someone who gets nervous in large crowds, this was a pleasant surprise.
The two hour class consisted of targeting muscles that you feel are tense. Yves asked us in the beginning of the class what body parts we wanted to work on and then she demonstrated on us how to massage our partners. On top of showing us how to massage, she’ll explain what each movement does for your body.
Who knew massaging your face could clear your sinuses and massaging your feet can help with migraines?! Now I know!
Facility is clean and quiet. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ will take another class!

To be honest, my first experience was unpleasant. I left my session feeling in pain and not relaxed at all. I was about to write a bad review on Unilocal,but I saw so many good reviews and figured the masseuse I had was just not right for me. I decided to give Melt Massage a second chance and emailed the company about my experience.
To my surprise, the owner emailed me and called me to talk about my massage. She listened to what I had to say, and answered all my questions. She went over the thought process of the masseuse and what might have been causing me discomfort.
I was set up with another appointment and the owner worked on me the second time around. This time– the massage was amazing! She applied just the right amount of pressure, and addressed my problem areas. I felt so relaxed and loose afterwards.
I really appreciate Melt Massage. They go above and beyond for their customers and they care about them.

Melt is Marvelous! The staff is super friendly and accommodating and Lauren, the massage therapist was amazing! I’ve never walked out of a massage feeling so good. My body was wrecked from a bad flu and a cross-​country move and Lauren put me back together.
The day of my appointment, a last-​minute work obligation popped up and the staff was wonderful helping me reschedule the massage for the same day so I didn’t have to pay the cancellation fee.
I’ve already booked my next appointment and I highly recommend you do the same.

What a find! My husband booked a massage here for my birthday and it was one of the best massages that I have had in a long time. The ambience was spa-​like and very relaxing without it being overly pretentious. Kate had amazing hands! Being a mom, my shoulders are always tense from carrying around the baby but she knew just where to find the knots with the perfect amount of pressure. I often come out of massages feeling like either they didn’t work hard enough on my knots or it was way too painful but this was just right. I highly recommend coming here. They do prenatal massages too! I will be sure to be back. $ 90 for a 60 min massage which isn’t the cheapest but definitely worth it!

Had another massage with Julia — she’s AMAZING. I would go to her weekly if I could afford it.

Wow! Just left my 75 min massage for $ 110 and it was divine! I feel so relaxed and NOT in pain the way I am when I leave a Chinatown massage. I know why! It’s because these are trained massage therapists! She worked out my knots and debriefed me after it was done. She gave me tips on how to improve my posture and stretch. I’m re booking bc it’s worth it. The site is quiet, clean and minimalistic.

I started seeing Becky for massage several years ago. I’m one of those people who needs a heavy duty, Mac truck massage. Becky’s the best ever. She’s seen me through a hip injury, a fractured shoulder, chronic neck and shoulder stiffness, and the general aches and pains of an aging body. Melt also introduced me to Qi Gong, and they have amazing prenatal classes.

Not a very good experience. I had a pre-​natal massage and the pressure was so light I was bored and it felt like a waste of time and money. The experience was also weirdly impersonal — no real talk about what I needed — no more than a perfunctory hello and goodbye. I regretted spending the money there and I won’t go again. I can see from the reviews that this was an unusual experience — but it was definitely mine.

Lauren did an excellent job! I got a gift certificate for this one so of course it seemed especially valuable ;) But regardless, I would return if I ever feel like splurging and I would certainly request Lauren. I was transported into a magical plane of transcendence! I have absolutely no complaints.

This place is a scam and a waste of time. I booked an appointment for a prenatal massage for noon. I left them my phone number to call me in case the time didn’t work, but they didn’t. Instead they sent an email 30 mins before my scheduled appointment (after I had already driven over to the location and searched for parking) they canceled my noon appointment and told me to pick from other times available.
They had an appointment for 1:30pm, which I expressed my frustration with them and given the amount of discomfort I was in due to my pregnancy I said I’ll take the 1:30. After almost an hour of waiting, my body was in such pain I couldn’t stand around and wait anymore, I called their number numerous times to no avail. I then proceeded to email them to let them know that their new time wasn’t going to work because the waiting period in between their new scheduled time and the previously scheduled time was so lengthy. After all, I’m in my third trimester and the aches and pains of it is something they should be familiar with and not push their clients to have to stand around and wait for over an hour. Not to mention, they don’t even have a facility you can wait in, what kind of massage place is this where they have nowhere for you to wait in?
30 mins after I cancelled they wrote me an email saying they are going to charge me a cancellation fee for canceling my appointment within the 24 hour window. I totally understand 24 hour window cancellation policies, but this appointment was just booked 30 mins ago and now they want me to pay $ 45 for canceling it? I didn’t bill them for my wasted time, yet they want to bill me for their «wasted time» even though the appointment was JUST booked.
I’m shocked that this is how they conduct business and am surprised that they aren’t more accommodating to appointments booked right before the appointment time with their «policy».
A waste of time, money and overall terrible customer service experience.

I just had the best massage of my life at Melt. I’ve just moved from California, where I got a massage every 3 months or so, and Melt is the first place I went for one in NYC. I don’t think I’ll be exploring further.
I have a perpetually messed up back and I had resigned myself to massages being necessary but also painful. Danielle fixed my back and it didn’t hurt at all — in fact it felt amazing! Very reasonably priced, too, at least in my experience. I will certainly be back.

I LOVE THIS PLACE.
why?
1. I dont know how they do it, but they’re able to work out the knots (I have a lot) and make me feel super relaxed after each visit.
2. Most of the massage therapists are phenomenal– they are kind, experienced, educated therapists who give me tips on what I can do at home (I say most, because I had one instance where a therapist was pretty rude and unkind, but I’ll attribute it to her having a bad day).
3. theyre very accommodating with openings, cancellations and couples massages.
4. they have candy and water in the foyer :)

So I pass this cute little place on my way home every day and I’ve been wanting to try it so My boyfriend booked me a massage as a gift. First I will say they were very accommodating with figuring out a time that works for me and I love that they are open until 9 for us working girls! I went in and the place is tiny but very clean and welcoming.
Then I met Julia, my massage therapist, and she was so nice and friendly. About half way through my massage I wished I had purchased the 90 minute massage because I didn’t want it to end. I have had several massages before and some that were way more expensive but Julia really concentrated on my concerns. Usually I go for a Swedish but this was more of a deep tissue. When I say deep I mean she got into muscles that I didn’t even know I Had but it was never painful… perfect amount of pressure. Long story short I wanted to take Julia home with me.
Such a great experience! I will definitely be back anytime I need to «treat myself» !

Wonderful group of people who show they care. It’s a warm and welcoming atmosphere that caters to your physical need. Crissy is an amazing person and massage therapist. I take the Pilates classes and Becky is great at keeping me motivated to come workout!

Had a massage earlier today and 3 hours later, I am still in a relaxed bliss. Thank you Kate for making my day! I look forward to my next appointment in two weeks.
