I lived down the street from this spot for years and never went, but always meant to. It’s dark and pleasant inside with big comfy booths and their signs are often fun, which I always think is a great sign(ha!) that a place will be a good time. Unfortunately, a friend and I finally decided to go recently because she had her dog with her and this Unilocal page said that dogs were allowed. She was already there and seated with the dog when I came in, and as soon as I joined her, the bartender(owner?) suddenly noticed that she had a dog. He came over and told us we had to leave. He was pleasant enough about it, but said that it was totally impossible to change Unilocal so that it didn’t say dogs were allowed. That seems unlikely, and it sucks to get turned away from a place when you think you’re about to have a fun time. In any case, take note: dogs aren’t allowed.

As far as Greenpojnt bars go, I would say this is better than average! The bar itself is nice inside with(at least on the night we were there) super great music! I will say the seating is odd, like the booths look like they will fit four but only fit three in a straight line, so for groups some will have to stand or you’ll have to find a place by the window. They have a good drink selection as far as beer goes. The thing that I did find odd was that they make«classic» cocktails, no menu. Ultimately, you will see these are etched on the large back mirror broken down by liquor types. It to me, was very confusing especially because you almost have to switch positions to actually read the entire mirror. Most of my group had beer and I a Manhattan! Now not to be a drink snob but I prefer drinks to be made properly. My Manhattan was good but served over ice, no bueno! I would most likely return to Oak and Iron as it was a very good experience, I wished the Manhattan was made differently!

If cheap drinks, dive bar crowd and scene are what you desire then this is your place. With the closing of Mark Bar this is the place to go late at night. Expect unpredictable service and nothing extraordinary on any cocktail ordered but it meets the dive bar requirements.

Whoever said there’s a free jukebox here is full of it. But it’s a great bar. Davida is the best bartender in the neighborhood, too bad she only works here a couple times a week. It’s a sure bet to be open when everyone else is closed, and everyone who comes here is good people except the lady with the orange face and lots of jewelry.

Katie is the best bartender in all of the land. IMPECCABLE playlist. Never disappointed. If you’re looking for an A+ barmaid — she’s your lady. Wish there were more cute guys, though.

The place was fine(if a little predictably«curated») and the drinks were fine but service was reprehensible. The barmaid was rude and dismissive of everyone in the bar EXCEPT2 cute boys who walked in – her whole demeanor changed, she transformed from surly to giggly, paid nonstop attention to them while neglecting everyone else, and immediately began doing shots with these guys, and appearing to give them shots for free — and this was EARLY in the evening, like 7pm. Bartenders are a dime a dozen in Brooklyn. Decent bartenders are apparently much harder to find, if this lame girl was any indication. Step it up, Oak and Iron.

Good solid bar. Great bartenders. Had one bad pour once, but every other time I’ve been there it was very good. Hate the name, but all else is A-OK. Bathroom décor is smooth.

As far as Greenpoint goes, we always try different places, but end up coming back to Oak and Iron. It’s just comfortable. Me and a guy got to talking about Crock Pots one night at the bar. They’ll save your life, is what. But he wanted to give me one for cheap. He said he lived just down the road. We followed him. He went upstairs to get it, but I forgot I didn’t have the money, so we ran away. We didn’t make it far enough to make a clean escape. A block away we saw him standing on the sidewalk with a crock pot. Now I feel bad. I’ll probably see him, again. Good people at Oak and Iron. And a very cute bartender who every man never talks to but secretly calls their girlfriend. She seems stern.

Best bartenders Best music Great tunes Hot dudes with beers Man I gotta say this place is like Cheers except I always thought Sam was a wuss for not knocking back a few. He was a weak relief pitcher, the bartenders here know how to drink and make drinks and there ain’t no autistic mailmen or fat unemployed dudes with stupid wives around. There’s no Fraiser sitting on a bar stool telling you how Oedipus wants you to have sex with my mom. Enough already — I gotta hit the John, by the way, one of the bartenders is named John and he’d kick Woody’s hick ass. Also get I some mustard? Nah they sell mustard for a buck a pop! Come hang. I need someone to buy me a drink! Kidding! I have a job

Came here on a Sunday after brunch because we wanted to continue to drink. We got mimosas which were pretty big. It was empty then people began to come in. Bartender was very hipster like 1950’s looking. Place is sort of Americana themed with booths. Chill spot but nothing special.

I’ve come here before and had a better time, but last night was frustrating. Was on a date with the man, and we wanted a cocktail before dinner. Kyle asked what rums the girl had, and she had no clue but brought over two bottles to show us — one was rum… and the other was not even close to being rum but maraschino?! We should have given up then, but we ordered a daiquiri with the actual rum. She looked absolutely baffled and then said they don’t serve daiquiris. Ok, I get that I don’t go to an Indian restaurant and order Italian, but a bar is a different story. I feel like if you have the ingredients, make the damn drink, especially if it’s a simple classic(a daiquiri is literally just rum, lime, and sugar). Maybe she thought we wanted like a fruity frozen daiquiri or maybe she just didn’t know how to make it. We’d have been happy to talk her through it if a little more communication had gone on. But she was cold and didn’t seem to care, so we left and got a real drink at the Black Rabbit.

I’ve been here a bunch of times and have always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it’s no longer dog friendly(which I’m assuming is a NYC enforcement thing & not their choice), but it’s still a cozy bar with good beers on tap.

My review is for the bad experience I had with the bartender girl tonight. I asked for a non alcoholic drink, as I’m pregnant. She made my cocktail with alcohol and I tasted it immediately — I asked her«Is this drink definitely non-alcoholic?!» She said — «oh no, there is gin in it» and smiled. … Shocked I asked why she did that Her answer was«I thought you just didnt like the taste of alcohol so I made it with lemon and mint» I’m in my first trimester and it’s extremely dangerous for me to drink. I was shocked and in disbelief for the rest of the night. Completely inappropriate, rude and unprofessional. She apologized and brought me a virgin drink after, but the night was ruined and I’ll probably now spend the rest of my pregnancy worrying about possible damage this could have caused my baby. I used to like this place but I won’t risk coming again. UPD. Her name is Davida Lentini. She was actually dumb enough to abuse me here on Unilocal after reading this review. This chick has been fired from several places in Brooklyn, including Brooklyn Label, which is not surprising. It’s hard to keep a job when you’re a sociopath.

The bartender gave me a slice of watermelon on a warm May Monday night. And pretzel sticks. Laid back atmosphere here with affable bartenders. The people here are generally nice and come to relax with little or no discernible pretension. Or it may be indiscernible because of the ideally dusky lighting. Also sports a wood, americana-esque interior that rises above the typical bar environment.

Just as people say, nice low key place great for spending time with friends and meeting nice people. Depending on the time of day, they have a great«jukebox» setup.

Cute Asian chick working the bar with tats and similar dysfunctional issues as myself. Check. Free jukebox that has a good selection of Marvin Gaye. Check. Dark and Stormies for when the mood needs a little stirring. Check. A Sazerac to jolt the body alive. Check. Open until 4AM in Brooklyn on a school night. Check.

I have no idea why I never came here before. I live in the area, but for some reason never thought to stop by. My friends and I finally did on Saturday night and had a great time. First off, this is so not a dive bar. It’s way too cute and welcoming to be a true dive. Sure the drinks are really affordable, but with the exposed brick, perfect lighting and lots of booth seating, it had more of a sexy wine bar feel than a dive bar. When I think of dive bar, I think of the Levee, I think of crappy bathrooms with doors that don’t lock, I think of crappy beer that’s super cheap… you get the idea. They have a really nice selection of draft beer. Something for everyone and its mostly microbrews, which is most appreciated. I ended up ordering a vodka soda, which was absolutely perfect. The bartender on Saturday night, Cody, pours by far the best mixed drink I’ve ever had in NYC. My fiancé, who was a bartender for many years, watched him make my drink and told me «now that’s how its done» and even tried my drink to confirm it was perfect, which it was. So many bartenders can’t mix a damn vodka soda. It’s either too strong or too light. So thank you Cody for making my night. Also, Cody was the best barteder ever! He was SO freaking attentive and the best multitasker I’ve ever seen. He was the only one working and he handled it like it was no big deal. I never went w/out a drink. He made sure my friends and I were taken care of. He was funny and chatted with us when he had a chance. The bar was rather busy, but he was on it. So impressed! The music was awesome, a ton of oldies. The whole experience was just great. We drank, we hung out, we had a blast and it seemed like only locals came here, which is fine by me. I like avoiding the douchebags that have infiltrated the area, trying to see where hipsters hang out and the next place to be featured on Girls. So bullshit. Which is the opposite of this place. I’ll definitely be coming back again, especially on a Saturday night to enjoy a perfect vodka soda.
