Service subpar. Food and drinks just ok. Sister restaurant Talde has much more to offer. Thistle Hill is neglected step child

Ahhhh… oooh…warm n cozy in the winter… an old bar with good service. Had the schnitzel which was tender with a crispy coat. very good. The tagliatelle with bolognese tasted like homemade pasta in this little brooklyn bar! Easy hang out and no frills. wear jeans and drink well!

I went here for the first time last night with my boyfriend on a whim and had a great meal! My boyfriend ordered a beer that our server was able to speak of intelligently, and I ordered a glass of white wine that he poured a sip of first for me to try before pouring the whole glass. During the entire meal or server was very pleasant, attentive and positive. He was covering the entire floor of the restaurant(probably around 25 guests) and we never fault forgotten. I ordered the falafel burger, which came with the salt and pepper fries, and my boyfriend had the shnitzel. He cleaned his plate. My burger was a little too large too finish(I would of had I had room) but I made sure to finish the fries — they were great! Living only a couple blocks away, I’m sure we will be back!

Really enjoyed the vibe and the overall décor of this restaurant. Tucked away on the corner, and the servers were super attentive. The duck confit was also really good.

Always very crowded at brunch but really not all that special. The food is nice but I got hellish food poisoning from a salad here once, so I don’t think I’ll return. It’s always funny how they try to hide their bad rating from the department of health behind plant arrangements. Go here for the hip crowd, but don’t eat!

Thistle Hill Tavern is a good alternative to the ridiculously long waits on the Saturday night in Park Slope. Low-key and cozy – bars that remind me of sitting at home really do it for me. As if that wasn’t homey enough, you can treat yourself to several comfort foods here. The southern fried chicken with sweet potato mash was decent. I’ve had moister chicken breast elsewhere, but far from the worst. The Falafel burger was a little dry as well, but the salt and pepper fries were a delight. I’d recommend the baked ricotta as an appetizer – soft chunks of bread smeared with warm ricotta is something that is sure to please.

The food here is reasonably priced for dinner, and it’s reasonably good. There was nothing about the menu that really stands out — had the falafel burger and the rigatoni. I suppose I may have ordered the wrong thing, but this place, I would say, is mediocre. In another city, it’s a typical restaurant. In NYC, it sort of doesn’t live up to it’s competitors.

Food was amazing. Loved the whipped ricotta and wing with Gorgonzola sauce. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service was fine, not sure why all the negative reviews.

Okay, so never again. Been planning to try this place for some time, and now I’ll never have to think about coming here again. The food is so over salted, so greasy that it’s simply impossible to actually eat more than 2 bites, much less enjoy a full meal. Moving on quickly.

This is your neighborhood spot for a beer or cocktail and a burger. Pretty decent burger. Friendly bartenders. They spirits selection is oddly deep in some sections which is great. This is A-OK!

I was excited to go to Thistle Hill Tavern given Dale Talde’s involvement. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed. The restaurant is small but the décor was classy with a fantastic Brooklyn map. The service was ok — but our food did take awhile to come out. We ordered the following: — House Salad: Good with nice Parmesan — Burger: the website menu says Pat Lafrieda blend but the menu at the restaurant said a different blend. My wife ordered well done and it was served pink in the middle. The burger was still tasty but not sure why there was inconsistency in cooking. Looking around many people seemed to be ordering the burger. The salt and pepper fries were good but not as amazing as advertised. The pickles were awesome though — Half Rack of Ribs: I was torn but given it was July 4th I went with the special. It came with potato salad, vinegar slaw, baked beans, cornbread and a huge half rack — about 7 — ribs. The ribs were very tasty but not any better than what you would get at Fletcher’s or Dinosaur BBQ. The baked bean sauce was tasty but the beans were hard. The cornbread and butter… amazing…highly recommended and one of the best cornbreadsI have had. The potato salad was salad was solid and the vinegar slaw was excellent and refreshing — I also ordered a cocktail with rum and a charred pineapple — it was actually well made. A little sweet but again well made Overall this place is good and I would like to try it again(perhaps for the fried chicken and pork chop) however for the hype and reviews I expected better. Also — the inconsistency of the menu is a little annoying on the web. For example in the about us section many of the foods that are mentioned are not on the menu. Then when you go to the dinner menu there is a picture of a steak but there is no steak on the menu.

Really good food. We came in for the 4th of July BBQ Special(half rack of ribs, potato salad, corn bread, baked beans, and coleslaw) and it was definitely worth the price. I wanted to top it off with a sangria but it wasn’t what I expected or as the waiter described, so I had to send it back and settled for a $ 3 can of Tecate. Highly recommend!

Overpriced. Overrated. Disappointing. The falafel burger was bland and tasteless. The delivery packaging is just a cardboard box that arrives with patty, bun, toppings, and fries all tossed around together. The fries looked and tasted like they were dredged up from the back of the fryer. The bun was pretty okay The cauliflower was hilariously inedible. Ten bucks for three tiny florets soaking in over-seasoned buffalo sauce soup. I threw it out after one bite. Suffice to say, won’t be ordering here again

Tasteless, overpriced, way over salted. To be avoided at all costs. Courteous and attentive waiter and bus boy, self-righteous and unreasonable manager. When an seven eight person table expresses dissatisfaction with their food, it’s expected for the restaurant to make an effort to leave their patrons with a good taste in their mouth; not the case with Thistle Hill. We’re reasonable people, expecting decent food and service– especially when paying $ 17 for chuck meat burgers with frozen fries. No thanks.

I really enjoyed this place for dinner. We ordered the mac and cheese with pancetta(totally worth the extra $), kale taco salad, and falafel burger. The kale taco salad was huge! It was so delicious though, who would have thought to use kale in a taco salad? Both the mac and cheese and falafel burger dishes were large portions as well and by the time we were done we were stuffed.

This was a 5-star meal, knocked down to 4-stars by somewhat poor service. The good: Crazy delicious food, pulling from a variety of cuisines, landing on somewhere around comfort food, with influences from Italian and Asian food. I ordered the falafel burger and it did not disappoint in the least. The falafel patty/burger was so crispy and flavorful. The accompanying hot sauce and white sauce really made the sandwich stand out and elevate it to next-level falafel. I also sampled bites from my friends’ plates: buffalo cauliflower(spicy and tasty!), collard greens(I’m a sucker for collard greens, and these were great), tagliatelle with lamb(perfectly cooked pasta). The menu really had something for everyone. One of my friends is a vegetarian and the menu perfectly balances between meat and meat-free options, without leaving anyone behind. The bad: Our service was just kind of odd. We were seated quickly, and our waiter came over welcoming us. He promptly told us that there were no specials(why even mention them, then?) I asked if it would be possible to substitute collard greens for the fries as a side on my plate and was told no(which is fine, I should have mentioned that I would have paid a slight up charge, but to just say ‘no’ was surprising), my friend asked how big the portion of the buffalo cauliflower was — asking if it was shareable or more of a side and the waiter said«well you could share it, I guess.» For most of the meal, our server was kind of missing in action. Our order was taken by the woman who seated us, who was doing double duty as host and server. The food was really remarkable and everyone LOVED their meals. The vibe is fun and cozy. But the service was lacking.

Service here was impeccable. The food was absolutely divine, tasty, and wonderful for a winter evening. I enjoyed their drink selection. I highly recommend the fried chicken with cheddar mashed potatoes. The best fried chicken I have had. Please note this is being compared to some of the famous well know fried chicken places in Williamsburg. I ordered a side of Brussel sprouts and they were exceptional. Apple pie was not what I expected, but not bad. I personally prefer a tad bit more cinnamon. I felt as if it were very tart. However, depends on the apples you use that day. My one complaint was the potato skin appetizer. Whenever I come here, the portion size is very inconsistent. Bathroom was EXTREMELYCLEAN.

Came here for a Saturday Brunch and totally loved it! The service was very on point, The Avocado toast with bacon was a perfect combination of flavors. The Shrimp and Grits were delicious as well… Bloody Mary was not bad, but I ve had better by far… I can’t wait to try dinner at this spot.

Their pulled pork and pancakes are incredible. The first time I ordered it, I immediately regretted my decision, thinking such an odd combination couldn’t possibly be good. It was not good– it was fantastic! The perfect blend of sweet and savory. Their brunch cocktails are a bit on the pricey side. I ended up having a mint julep instead. As it was my first mint julep, I have no standard of comparison. It pretty much tasted like lemonade, which is A-okay in my book. The restaurant is pretty cramped and the outside dining area is even smaller. But it’s cute and quaint.
