The Baking Grounds Bakery Cafe

These are the prettiest cakes I have ever seen! Everything is handmade and they think of some really amazing ways to incorporate cookies and candies into the decorations. If you want a beautiful cake, this is the place! If you have a sweet tooth that craves sugar, this place is your heaven. I couldn’t finish mine, it was so sweet. But you better believe I took the rest home! A really special place.

I love their food. It’s great tasting and it’s not expensive. They make great desserts. I love their macaroons. It’s very quaint and homey. I like the coffee. I was a huge fan when they were at the Mall of Georgia. The French toast was divine.

I came here a couple years ago for lunch with my sister and remember it was awesome. I had some of the chicken salad and she had something else. Both were delicious, but since it was so long ago, I cannot accurately remember what we had/​ate… etc.
I did come here recently however for a cake tasting. Their wedding cake is delicious, moist and so flavorful, especially if you get one of the fillings. My sister had her wedding cake made by this same group and it was amazing as well. So good in fact that we are going with them again for my cake. Their prices are in line with other wedding cake bakers and they are reputable and great to work with. They were incredibly patient while I was trying to decide what designs I liked, even giving some helpful tips.

This was the first time I’ve ordered from the Baking Grounds, and I have to say the cake we ordered was absolutely fantastic! So moist and yummy and the frosting and design were both perfect too. The staff were so nice and helpful, I am very excited and pleased that I’ve also ordered a cake for a much larger party next weekend.

I used to go to their location at the Mall of Georgia quite often for lunch or baked goods but now that they moved up to historic downtown Buford I only go a handful of times a year. Their breakfast was nothing too special but their lunch is great. I’ve had a few different sandwiches and love them all. My favorite is the chicken salad or the turkey avocado one.
As far as the baked goods. My favorite are their cupcakes. I usually order a dozen for family on special occasions and everyone loves them. My favorite are their red velvet, carrot, old fashioned, double chocolate, and strawberry.
Their bread is delicious too. The jalapeño cheddar bread is so good. I used to buy a loaf to take home. The service is always great and very friendly, definitely a country homey feel.
I know they also do wedding cakes and custom cake orders. I’ve never had either of those services but I’m sure they do an excellent job.

As stated in it’s name, this bakery is also a small café. As you walk inside your eyes are immediately drawn to the glass filled with confections. It was like Kiddie Kamp, because I just saw a sea of colors and marzipan. Many of the treats were decorated like they only cater to kids and I know that this is not the case. Off to my far right, I noticed wedding cakes, that were decorated as if they were going to be presented to a couple of 10 year olds as well as more tasteful options.
I immediately start looking around for the «grown folks» treats, simple pastries. There were a few left and we selected three, cheese for my daughter, strawberry for my husband and I decided to go for the pecan pastry because I absolutely love pecans. While I liked my pastry, I thought that it had a bit too much fat. My husband and daughter both enjoyed their pastries and I am sure that they would order them again. However, I felt like the pastries were small and over-​priced and I personally would not choose to purchase them again.
I prefer to get ALL of what I «pay for» and today, this wasn’t the case. The search continues.

Daughter and I stopped in here for lunch one day because we couldn’t agree on anything else, and I was tired of driving around looking for food (we were in the middle of moving, so didn’t have food and cooking supplies in one place).
We’d heard about Baking Grounds from my sister, who rarely raves about anything. So we were fairly certain we’d be pleased. We started out just ordering a dessert, thinking that the only thing they had for lunch was the special on the board. At the last moment, I asked if they had a full lunch menu and was handed one, so we sat down to peruse.
Daughter ordered the egg salad on white and was quite pleased. I had tuna salad on rye, and loved it. We also found that with the pickle, cookie and chips/​potato salad option, we didn’t have room for anything more than the sandwich and one other item! We ended up bringing potato salad, pickles, cookies, and our original dessert order home for snacking the next couple of days.
Fantastic service, cute little setting, and delicious sandwiches. We’ll be back!

Just had breakfast… well done eggs were runny, asked for hash browns well done. emphasized burnt. Came brown… asked for burnt and they came back the same…& greasy. Waitress Elise was very nice and funny but I would never recommend this place or return. Bakery looks fabulous!

Wrong review board!!! These folks are crazy. This place us absolutely fantastic. Go to the correct Unilocal for the reviews. This place has a fantastic atmosphere, food, customer service and lattes! !!

My new favorite breakfast spot in Buford. Adequate and tasty country breakfast selections, fair prices, and good coffee. Glass cases were filled with beautiful cakes and pastries, but we were too full to try them this trip.
BGC was at the Mall of GA, but this location should be better for them. Just a couple of blocks from historic downtown Buford. Easy and ample parking.

In to see Becky, my favorite server, and she doesn’t work there anymore! Tragic. The place won’t be the same without her. Seemed a little more chaotic than normal too.

Just had breakfast here, first visit ever. WOW! Super nice staff, amazing desserts, and best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Their sausage gravy is sooooo good! Simple breakfast menu but delicious! The atmosphere feels like your having breakfast at a good friends house. Love this little gem of a café!

Round 2. Sadly, my first review was removed for my honest post. I now have yet another negative experience and think I will not go for the three strikes and your are out approach. Blueberry muffin was just about as good as my own homemade and I admit baking is not my thing. Bought two cupcakes and brought them home and I really don’t think they were fresh as they seemed dry when you bite into it. If I look back to our breakfast experience, I guess I am not surprised.

Cute little coffee shop in downtown Buford. We had coffee and a croissant egg sandwich. Food was your typical breakfast food, can’t go wrong there. Coffee was great and atmosphere cute. They sell cakes and all other kinds of baked goods you could think of. Staff was very nice, polite and efficient! Will definitely be going back for a little coffee date!

Took my girls here for cupcakes and we were all very disappointed! The cupcakes has too much icing and the cakes weren’t very moist. I wouldn’t pay $ 24 for a dozen. Sam’s club cupcakes are so much better!
