Hawgs was great what can I say, my wife and I started going there right after they opened. I moved away from the area but went there when I came back recently, best damn Cioppino around(which is what I had that night). Unfortunately that night Steve told me he was done. Next time I came into town he was closed. Good news is I think you can get his chowder at the Campbell Farmers market.

Hawg’s was a great seafood grill and bar! We will really miss going there– they closed their doors last Saturday night. Wishing Steve, the owner… And his entire staff all the best for their futures! Hope you open another place one day! Cheers! Deb PS Yes, The Table is coming to the old Hawgs space. Hawgs had a great run. 18 years, I believe. Not an easy business– ask anyone who owns a restaurant! Capers is a long time favorite. Great cocktails and love their menu!

Service was obviously terrible. Bartender /owner of the place acted annoyed when I interrupted his rant to order a beer, and then overcharged me 10 dollars on a crab salad that I hadn’t ordered because I ordered the shrimp salad. Now I have a 35 dollar charge on my account and a pending $ 25 charge for the price adjustment. Instead of paying an overpriced tab of $ 25 for a salad and a beer, I’m out 60 bucks for bad service, mediocre food, and borderline fraudulent behavior. My waitress was nice. Good luck to them in the future.

My first experience at this restaurant left with me no desire to return. The clam chowder was $ 9 for a bowl and not really worth it. My small Caesar salad was also $ 9 and not very tasty at all. We waited forever for the waitress to pick up the check, and when she did she took an unnecessary long time to bring it back because we were watching her eat her dinner. Very unprofessional! Waste of my money.

Hawgs is closing its doors!!! We visited on April 19th, 2015 and used a Groupon offer. We have been here a few times over the years and the fish is sometimes hit or miss(more often hit). Generally the oysters are good and that was why we visited this time. The service was a bit off from normal and oddly enough, when I was showing my Groupon to the cashier she grabbed my phone from my hand without even asking which I felt very uncomfortable with. When I later called to complain, the manager explained that while that was unacceptable behavior, it may have been partly explained by the fact that they are closing in about two weeks. You probably should not purchase a Groupon for Hawgs(still being offered as of today) unless you plan on visiting really soon!

Ate here twice because my girl brought me here. Food definitely overpriced like many others have said. On top of that both times i have left with my stomach hurting. Ive had the oyster both times. Not coming back here for sure. Only good i saw was the waitress, old Hispanic lady. Shes really nice.

Is this under new ownership? We live in Santa Cruz and in the past had enjoyed Hawgs when in the area. Yesterday we ate there — I had the scallops and they were small, cooked OK, but the sauce and potatoes were tasteless. My wife asked about the fish and chips and the waitress gushed about the cod — unfortunately it was evident that the two uniform piece of rectangular fish were frozen. My wife described the dish as «tastes like the oil needs changing» while leaving a young man was bringing a cart of boxes in through the front door — two boxes of frozen scallops and a few boxes of frozen fries — so much for fresh fish at Hawgs

Great atmosphere, nice people-good bread and butter. I wish they served scampi style prawns in a butter type of sauce(like Capers does next door) but they only serve them fried. Excellent lemon drops.

The food is delicious, but lacks originality… same dishes you can get at 1000 places across the country. The only reason it’s memorable is the rediculous pricing. It’s a strip mall location with beachfront prices.$ 50 per person to eat in a strip mall? Not going back!

Nice clean place, it’s casual and doesn’t have a dinner sort of feel. Not cozy or homey feeling. Food tastes great. Clams were very small though and all in all its too pricey for what you get. It was 25 $for a pound of clams in butter garlic sauce. Great place for a groupon though. Oysters were good, but again overpriced. Service was standard.

There is really no reason to eat here. Food and drinks are over priced and the seafood is not fresh and had an off pungent fishy smell. Oysters had an off after taste and came with a side of grit. Service was lacking, its like they want you to get out. Only good thing here was the beer in the bottle. Tldr; food is not worth the price go elsewhere

We tried this place out but found the food not as good as The fishmarket. The prices are also higher and the place is small and can only accommodate limited diners.

Do not and I repeat do not go here… I am completely dissatisfied with the quality of food and service. Went here 9 months ago and was hoping things could have changed based on another groupon deal and the place hasn’t been shut down… I was horribly wrong… We walked in with a groupon deal and u could already see on the workers faces that they were not pleased or I swear I heard«oh another groupon customer… «from one of the employees. I am not joking u could see the guys in the back look completely annoyed with it. That was very disrespectful and we were very upset with this. Like why even post a groupon deal if even your workers aren’t going to be on board with it. Just like everyone else we try to save money and eat good quality food… It’s a win win right but hello! You’re on groupon and even ur workers aren’t friendly with the idea! After ordering our food we were looking to try something new… Even after that dramatic experience… Noted: We should have left and asked for a return from groupon… But we thought if we’re already here might try something which was a mistake. The oysters we had… There was so many shells inside like literally no cleaning was involved in the oysters it was a complete disappointment. Alongside the fish we ordered was not even cooked and was still raw. We didn’t even bother letting the waiter know because we just wanted to leave. It was a waste of money and complete waste of time. I usually don’t leave these types of reviews but I am very very very upset and had to warn others to avoid this place. I have completely given up on this place. Was so interested in trying out why ppl used to love this place… But I guess it was a Once-A-Pon a time places… Really hope people be careful to not go here for your own health… They are only on groupon to probably save their business because it was a horrific experience and should be shut down for both health reasons and service… Enough said I’m going to go eat McDonald’s or TGIF because at least I’m not gonna get criticized for what I order and foods 100x better there…

I dunno… the location is pretty good and the service team was GREAT, but that’s all I can say. After living in San Diego for a few years, it is definitely hard to come back to the South Bay and not have that fresh-caught deliciousness for much cheaper prices. I took my Dad here for dinner and we started off with an expensive $ 12 calamari that was a great portion size as a starter, but was tossed in too much of the herbs. The dipping sauces were great though. Before I forget… right when you are shown to your table, you are given a plate of cold sourdough bread with diced tomatoes as dipping sauce! It’s interesting on the palate, and definitely makes you feel like you’re right by the ocean! I ordered the crab sandwich(seeing all of the great Unilocal reviews), which is $ 1 more for dinner since they only make it during lunch time, and my Dad had the cajun pasta! I thought my sandwich got too rich and was way mayo’d up by the last few bites, and my Dad agreed. His cajun pasta was delicious and creamy with just the right amount of spice! I gotta say that his pasta was the winning plate of the night – and I would absolutely recommend it. However, I’d say a firm NO to the crab sandwich. Our bill totalled about $ 70 after tip, and that was only with the two of us getting no special drinks! It’s still crazy to me that seafood up here costs a lot more than down in SD. But it’ll take some getting used to. Our server was a smiley woman who chatted us up and provided a calm presence to our table. Nothing spectacular, but the greeter at the front entrance was exceptional and polite. Shoutout to the bussers and the staff – it seems like everybody enjoys their jobs and looking around the place, it also seems like there were a lot of loyal customers.

Bought a groupon for this place just because we wanted to try the oysters. Groupon says that we need to get a entrée in order to use it. Items ordered: A Dozen Oysters — Oysters were very fresh and yummy. They were also the perfect size and had a hint of sweetness to it. Yummy. For $ 2.50/each.it was pretty pricy. Clam Chowder — Came out with the red chowder… it was filled with goodies in and lots of clams. Overall the chowder was just okay. Swordfish Special — served with veggies and garlic mash potatoes… I thought the swordfish was over cooked and it was a little dry. The sauce that came with the fish was pretty tasty. The garlic mash potatoes were pretty good, but the veggies were pretty soggy. Overall, this place is okay. Oysters were definitely the best thing we tried, but its a little on the pricier side.

I can’t believe that I’ve never reviewed Hawgs before! Been coming here since the doors opened and have never been disappointed. Small restaurant located in the Kirkwood Plaza off of Campbell Avenue. Parking can be challenging but with a little patience you’ll find a spot. The overall feel of Hawgs is comfortable, casual, clean and friendly. Locals come here to share drinks and meals, sitting at the bar/counter. I like to sit near the cooks who are so friendly and enjoy chatting while they cook. The seafood is fresh and you realize this the moment you walk in and smell … nothing fishy at all. Trust me, this is a small establishment and if the fish wasn’t fresh, you’d know right away. The hubs and I have tried quite a few items over the years and have never been disappointed other than we wished the portions were larger. Prices seem kinda high but fresh seafood isn’t cheep. We can easily drop $ 100 without thinking about it. Everyone raves about their chowder and I believe they now sell it at Costco too. Personally I don’t care for it. It’s a mixture of New England and Manhattan styles. I prefer straight up New England but that’s me. Like I said, lots of people really love Hawgs chowder so give it a try! All of their pastas are yummy and they do a simple grilled fish to perfection. Their smoked fish appetizer plate is really good and so is their oysters. I LOVE their fresh bread and chopped tomato/garlic dippy sauce. So good! Yesterday I stopped in for a quick bite while out running errands. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday afternoon(only 5 at the bar and one table of two) but then again it’s a holiday weekend. They have 3 large screen TVs showing the games so it was nice that I could peek to see the A’s game every once in awhile. I looked over the menu and decided on the seafood quesadilla. I was told the«seafood» was crab & shrimp with jack cheese. Yum! It came out quickly accompanied by sliced ripe avocado, lemon slice and pico. At $ 14 I really expected it to be larger so that was a little disappointing. However the seafood filling was fresh, flavorful and the tortilla was perfectly crisp. My mouth is watering right now. Perfect little afternoon snack! We don’t come her often because its a tad pricy for us on our budget but when we do splurge and come here, we’re never disappointed.

First up, they don’t take reservations for parties less than 8. So, without reservations we had a wait time of 1 hour for dinner. We ordered the following: Popcorn Shrimp — OK Clam Chowder — OK Seafood Pasta –Blah Chocolate Volcano Cake — The only dish I enjoyed probably because it has been a long time since I had any desserts and I was craving for one To sum it, the food was fair to middling. Service was jet fast and friendly. Will definitely not return

The best seafood restaurant in the San Jose/Campbell area without traveling too far! This place gets packed so I suggest arriving early or call ahead! If you are a party of two and don’t mind sitting at the bar, you’ll get seated a lot quicker. They have a few tv’s in here with the seasonal sports on. I’ve been here several times and have almost always gotten whatever their specials were for that day and it has YET to disappoint! Everything has been so fresh and delicious! I’ve also sat at the bar a few times and seen them cook my dish and it’s interesting to watch. Everything is made fresh and boiled or grilled right in front of me and that’s one thing I love about this place. No frozen or already bagged foods. Using fresh ingredients is a must! For appetizers, do not pass up the Cheesey Garlic Bread because it will be one of the most mouth-watering breads you’ll encounter! Just thinking about it is making my mouth water! Yummy! Their oysters go for $ 2.50 a pop but is very fresh and delicious! I’ve also tried their calamari, crab cakes, chile relleno, and their complimentary salsa and bread is also very good. My favorite is the australian lobster tail with a side of grilled shrimps. It comes with mashed potatoes and steam vegetables. The lobster tail and nice and plump and cooked to perfection. I can say the same about the shrimps! However, if you would like the garlic shrimps, it’s an additional $ 5 for 3 shrimps, but they are so worth it! My fiancé has had their steak and that’s also delicious. The crab louie salad is very filling also and you should definitely give that a try! There’s not one dish here that I do not like. Everything is made fresh and to perfection, nothing is ever overcooked. The service is always great and they are prompt with refills. Try Hawgs out and you won’t regret it!
