Great burgers! They’re huge! Friendly customer service… good casual place to grab a bite to eat and a beer after a day at the lake. Anything you get on the menu will be delicious. Large portions, so you definitely get your money’s worth.

The chicken sandwich was pathetic, chicken was dry, 1 piece of wilted lettuce, 2 small rings on onion, and 1 slice tomato. It would compare to something at a gas station for $ 3, but it costs $ 11. I expect a better sandwich for $ 11!

Food quality has gone down considerately. Although On the Rocks is expensive even compared to our other restaurant choices here at the lake, their food was delicious and unique when they first opened. The beginning of the end for OTR was probably when a former waitress ran her mouth and pissed off the local biker community(bad move!!) and the bar owner supported her; since then, OTR has increased prices and apparently lost the pride they used to take in preparing and serving food. I went in a few weeks ago for lunch to break up my work day and do some paperwork. I knowingly ordered a $ 30 lunch, but received 2 bottled beers, a measly caprese salad, and dry wings. The caprese salad is $ 9.50. I have ordered this same salad at least 5 times since OTR opened because it was so refreshing. They used to put several huge chunks of buffalo mozzarella cheese, several thick slices of ripe tomatoes, generous fresh basil, lettuce, and the other ingredients. Now, they use a much smaller mozzarella cheese, slice it almost paper thin, and give you only a few pieces thereof; tomatoes were not ripe and were also sliced thin; and, no lettuce was included like before. I ordered a 12-piece wings so as to have leftovers for lunch the next day; they were so dry that I took one bite and left them sitting there. The waitress seemed to know what was wrong with the wings and offered to bring more sauce for me to dip them in. $ 12 wings that tasted microwaved and dry? No thanks. The manager at the time(a shorter guy) walked by and asked how my food was. I told him that I was severely disappointed because it was nothing like OTR used to be. His response? «Well next time, let me know and I will make your food for you.» Who says that!!! Told him there would be no next time. 2 stars only for the waitress – I believe her name was Michelle. She was very apologetic and attentive. $ 30 for lunch for one and the only good part of it was my 2 cold bottled beers and a nice waitress? I can get a much better deal and experience at Brookshire Brothers grocery store.

After hearing about this restaurant from a family member, my husband and I decided to give it a try. We have been so disappointed in the places we’ve tried recently so our hopes were not high. Thankfully, we were surprised by just how good everything was at On the Rocks. Our server, Taryn, was delightful and helped us decide on our appetizer. The fried mushrooms were hand battered and the ranch dressing seemed to be homemade. They were delicious. My husband’s martini and my house margarita were both really good, as well. For the main course, I ordered a bacon cheddar burger and my husband chose the chicken fried steak. We were not disappointed. We listened to the band for a while on the outside deck and decided it was the best date night we’d had in a long, long time. We’re looking forward to going back soon.

What happened to this place? The food has gone up, but the quality has gone down? Something drastic must have happened, An $ 18 Shrimp special should have more than 6 small shrimp!

Ok, I gotta be honest with you completely. As I am writing this from home all I can think about right now is the Chicken Fried Steak I had at On the Rocks over a week ago. Easily the best I have ever had. Maybe it was because I hadn’t had one in 3 years but for some reason I decided to try it and it was amazing! I was absolutely blown away! It was crispy on the outside, tender in the middle and the gravy was rich, creamy and smooth. As I have been writing this I have been given tomato slices, avocados, oranges and a sandwich on the way. It’s not like the giant portion of mashed potatoes that were also to par with the deliciousness of the steak but added flavor, texture and depth to the dish. As I see the plate of food coming toward me with all of its own trimmings I think of the side of green beans, again a perfect sauce to compliment the entire dining experience and bringing the meal to epic proportions! I know several of my patients will read this and I may deny writing it but seriously if you are going to «cheat» on your diet do it here. The food is amazing! I’ve tried; chicken fried steak, chicken wings, red beans and rice, tortilla soup and the Monterey chicken.

dont be fooled by the bar atmosphere. the food here is excellent. we had the lamb and risotto and the house salad. omg best lamb and best risotto I have had in many years. salad dressing was home made and excellent also. even the house wines were good. service was the best we have had in canyon lake. if you want truly good food service and added bonus of live entertainment this is a must go.

Ok i have to say it is really good. I even called out the chef Patrick on this since it was so good. Staryed with the pulled pork fries and then we had a bacon cheese burger and the gumbo. All of it was great.

Atmosphere is lacking, owner is rude. He said«if you don’t want pickles on your fu****ng burker, you can pick them off». Food was average, music was too loud. I will not give that owner another dime of my money.

Excellent place with unusually good lake area food. From burgers to ribeye steaks with some special menu items hardly ever found at lake place. Fried chicken can be done with spicy natter and is excellent.

Nice clean spot close to Canyon Lake that’s great to stop in for a drink. Nice outdoor area for when the weather permits. Staff is very friendly, but I can’t recommend the food.

Here for the 1st time and the 3 of us enjoyed every bite. The Chicken Fried Steak was tender, batter was light and crispy with a nice flavor. Green beans were amazing being fresh, crispy, and full size like they were just picked from the garden. Substituted mashed potatoes for a side salad that was generous and delicious. The burger was tasty and generous along with tasty onion rings. Over all, great food, wide selection of draft beer, great service, big place, clean, and friendly atmosphere, so Clyde gives this place 5 stars.

We were excited to try this place out. Sat outside on a nice day. The server came over quickly and brought us out our drinks promptly. But the food. Uh no. I ordered the lamb and asked for it medium rare. It came out well done, sent it back and it came out raw in the middle. I decided let’s get our checks and go, because you know ordering something else for a third might not be the best choice. So experience was not good.

We went here before taking a swim at Canyon Lake on the military side. They had a great burger and lots of beer on draft. I had a mushroom burger and added jalapeños. Friends had tilapia tacos and liked them. I believe they have live music at night. Michelle was our waitress and was great. Stay away from poboys. It didnt look great

Lakeside HonkyTonk with Upgraded Menu This is one of the nicest places you’ll find for dinner and live music in this lazy little lake town. That being said, it’s basically a pool hall with a nice stage & sound system, a large dining area, an outdoor deck that’s yet to realize it’s potential and a pretty nice menu. The service can be iffy, but this is Canyon Lake so regardless of where you go, your normal expectation of service should be significantly downgraded. if you’re expecting expedient, efficient or god forbid– fast– service anywhere around here, forget it. Even the subway is slow. Overall, the menu seems a misfit for the concrete floors and windowless bar space – You don’t expect to find grilled duck with orzo, bacon wrapped scallops, Panko-crusted lamb or a 12oz ribeye on a bar menu, but the dishes are well executed. They also boast a really fine, impressive draught beer selection, which is becoming more and more common among hill country juke joints and i applaud it. The onion rings were crisp and light and seriously, fried to perfection. they had that clean flavor that comes from fresh grease, which tells you something about how the kitchen is run. tells you something good. also good is the value — hearty portions for a nice price. The pulled pork chile relleno was also fried golden crisp and nearly greaseless. as a relleno aficionado, i was more impressed with the execution of this dish than i was with the dish itself, but i can be a purist when it comes to texmex. it was served with mac&cheese, but don’t get too excited about it. it’s average. The burgers and fried chicken are what most of the locals rave about, and i made a mental note to get stop in for fried chicken to go next time we plan an afternoon on the water. if i can have the food without the off-putting atmosphere, i may have a win-win. The main problem with OTR is that it doesn’t know what it wants to be. The night we were there, the overriding impression was that it was too freaking loud. the place is a concrete box and they had the country cover band cranked up to 11. it was so loud, the bartender couldn’t hear our order — from the bar. This is not the atmosphere i want to enjoy a lovely grilled duck or a twenty five dollar steak. this was a wings and cheese fries atmosphere. The music was good though and had we been liquored up and ready to get rowdy, that would have been the spot to camp, but we were just back from a beautifully relaxing, romantic, sunset dusk boat trip around the lake and were looking for a table for two with unusually good food in a usually predictable town. OTR missed the mark for us, as we surely would have ordered several courses and really stayed a while had it not been for the teeth-chattering music. we took it in stride and opted for a selection of fried foods, too many beers and chatting up the owners while we watched the last seconds of a Rockets game. No harm no foul, but no grilled duck either. The no-kids policy, actually i get. how many times have and your buddies stopped for drinks on the way home from the lake only to find two dozen kids playing hide and seek among the tables on the deck, running around, cutting loose while moms and dad drink. a lot. i have kids and i’m cool with no kids. But again — is this a kickin’ pool hall, honky tonk or a great restaurant? hopefully they make up their mind lest they become neither.

The best thing I can say about this place is that the food, on 3 separate visits, tasted like TV dinners. Worse was the service. I forgave that the first time, because it was very near opening day. You have to forgive growing pains. Still, they advertised a «Cajun/Creole» menu. It didn’t seem that they knew the difference between the two. Throw some Tony Chachere’s seasoning and pretend it’s Louisiana, and it’s all good. Epic fail. Not at all what they(wish) pretend to be. They seem to want to have music, but only as a forgettable background. Too bad it’s the food and service that is forgettable. The music could be their savoir.

A pleasant and enjoyable discovery on the north side of Canyon Lake. Craig and Allison are doing a wonderful job to transform the location from past smoky dive to an enjoyable, country-casual, live music venue with premium pours and upscales taps. Excellent filet and sides. Although our first time here from DFW, we will be back.

Someone’s gotta say it. Sorry. The food is, at best, average. Is it a restaurant, is it a bar? Who knows? Several of us are mystified. The atmosphere is lacking… something. Drinks, barely average. Sorry, but the bar staff looked bored and there were WAY too many waitress? staff floating around the empty restaurant. We also watched as an 8 top(middle of day, at lunch) was turned away at the door because they had an infant. And I’m talking about one that couldn’t be more than a few days old. Like you could count their existence on this planet in HOURS. You know, before they get loud and obnoxious and tear up the joint? When they don’t even COUNT as kids. Like, babysitting ain’t happening. Been there. Yes, I see the silly sign on your door that proclaims loudly 21ANDUPONLY. Please save your smirks at my review and my open disdain for their business practice. Even though they have the right. Right? Kids drive me crazy too, but during the day? And they have a full menu. We didn’t get it — this place doesn’t look like a bar to us. It also didn’t look busy either. Hmmm. I get it, they don’t want kids there, but they wouldn’t have even KNOWN if the«never gonna be your customer ever» lady hadn’t said something. Obviously family meeting up to celebrate future hell raisers recent birth. :) It’s slim pickins’ around Canyon Lake for business, especially during off-season. I’d reevaluate staff rudely turning away customers. And it WAS rude how they handled it, I promise you.
