If you enjoy visiting art galleries and happen to be in Carmel, Lu Lu’s Silk Art Gallery is worth a visit for something out of the ordinary. The owner is very friendly and offers a wealth of information about the history and practice of silk art. The silk art on display is beautiful, elegant, and painstakingly detailed. Pieces range from reproductions of famous impressionist art to florals, landscapes, portraits, and architecture. My favorite piece is of an old building in Suzhou, China… home to some of the finest silk in the world. I’m posting a picture of it but my photo does it no justice. Like other silk art in this store, this piece shimmers and the colors change as you walk toward it and from side to side. Of course, as always, my favorite piece is beyond affordability unless I care to take out a second loan… so I’ll settle for admiring my photo.

There are a lot of little boutiques, art galleries and nifty stores in Carmel. I was told by the woman working in the gallery that this is the only place in North America that does silk thread art. The pieces aren’t cheap but when someone says that art takes time, this art takes the cake. Some of the pieces take 18 months to do and they are b-e-a-utiful. It’s right across the street from Katy’s Place, so go get breakfast and stop in to admire and maybe pick up a piece of your own.
