I had the opportunity to visit this club during the Christmas holiday, and I could safely say I was fairly surprised. It was very different from the responses and reviews from others I heard from. The music was lively, the club was semi navigational, and the atmosphere was remarkably enjoyable. Not a club on my top 5, but definitely a club worthy of a re-visit. On the night I went, they were hosting a free Beer event… who can beat that on Christmas Day/Night? Satisfying, enjoyable, and worthy of praise from a new customer/local Charlotte born gay male. Indeed this club/bar is worth the time and the money spent for quality and quantity. Plus, the drag show wasn’t bad either!!!

I used to go to Scorpio’s years ago when I was 18 – 22. I lived in a small town with a handful of gays & we would flock to closest/only gay bar near us(an hour drive). We always had fun because we were young, drunk, &HAD to dance. Plus we just didn’t see drag queens or gay people at all back home. I’m 30 now & have lived in Charlotte for 2 years. I do not like loud clubs or dancing(still drunk & gay though). I hadn’t been to Scorpio’s in years until I befriended their loveliest bartender. Now I find myself lurking at her bar every other Sunday indulging in practically free vodka sodas. I enjoy people watching & reminiscing of the days when I was so young & thought I could dance and make out with strangers in public. I’m a comedian now so it does provide me with material & sometimes smooches so I can appreciate it. It is still a night club where ppl get shitty drunk so grossness and wrecklessness is bound to happen. It is what it is but I’m glad it’s still an escape for these young, dumb, drunk gay kids. If you’re looking for gayness, twerking, & sloppy ppl making out while trying not to take a tumble then there is no place like The Scorpio in Charlotte. And they have a really hot bartender… Did I mention that already?

«WHAT«… «A» …“Dump» ! An insult to the community AND unless your an alcoholic or immature thinking the all u can drink nights are great is Paaaaaathetic! Not one to be judgemental but I’m not sure, going out to drink till u drop, is a reason to think a place is fun. All this said from someone who can indulge from time to time! I just don’t leave home w/that agenda ! If I’m feeling like that it’s a sign to stay home! Betty Ford is for quitters … If you can’t handle it … don’t do it and a bar pushing getting trashed means it has nothing more to offer! N E X T …

Went for Charlotte’s Black Gay Pride in July of 2014. My roommate suggested we get there early to avoid lines and having a decent viewing spot for the entertainers. The first hour and half was really dead, like maybe only 10 other patrons. We took a tour– 2 rooms with dance floors and bars, and a pretty decent outdoor patio. The outdoor patio is almost reserved for smokers and the cloud gets pretty thick. I’m not a smoker, so. yuck! Lol. Beware when you first get admitted you get patted down. and it’s more like getting felt up then patted down, not a particularly enjoyable experience. Forget what the cover charge was, but as someone else mentioned that for all the money they are making they sure as hell aren’t putting it back into the business. it’s in dire need of an interior decorating update. Around 10−11pm it suddenly goes from empty to packed to a line into the parking lot. The area around the club is kinda sketchy and for those of you not from the south, you may become a little frightened by the exterior: gravel parking lot, porch, etc. Looks like something out of a bad movie. Drinks: prices are steep and alcohol content is weak. if you like to drink, I’d recommend pregaming or expect the consequences. I went on a Saturday night, dress to impress. people were thugged out. if I knew to expect that, I wouldn’t have put so much thought into my outfit and just put some gear on. One guy was literally in his boxers. Crowd was pretty young, was expecting a better mixture. Heard the N-word more times than I wanted to, at least one fight broke out, I was discouraged by the disproportionate representation of the staff– All white southerners, no diversity. Apparently this place has been around forever though which is pretty cool. not sure if its gay owned or operated now but when it first opened in 1974 it wasn’t. Music was pretty good. I’d go back again and try another night. was a bit disappointed by lack of diversity /segregation in crowd. I’m a Yankee so my experience was a bit backwards like stepping back in time. I know people that go more often and have fun, so I’d give it another shot.

SHITHOLE!!! Too bad 0 stars is not an option here. The staff and management are rude and only want money. Someone sprayed pepper spray and sent multiple patrons to the ER and the staff just sat there like they could care less. Save yourself the trouble and just flush your money down the toilet! This place is so ghetto and trashy. All the money they make from $ 30 admissions and it still looks the same as it did in 1974. Disgrace to the gay community!

Sundays used to be all you can drink vodka for 10 dollar cover… After paying our cover they let us know that beginning this week vodka drinks are 2 dollars… Why would anyone come on Sunday if they’re pouring 2 dollar glasses of cranberry juice?

Scorpio’s is a fun bar! That is one of the few things you can say FORSURE :) Is it a gay bar? Well, mostly! But there are straight, bisexual, gay, and transgender people who regularly attend and any given night, this variety of people will change! There are equally as many guys and girls if you go on a Wednesday or Sunday, which are by far, the best nights in my opinion! FREEBEERORFREEHOUSEVODKADRINKS! Who can beat that? You just pay the cover & literally drink all night for just what you tip your bartender!(Tip well for stronger drinks & faster service!) They have an outdoor patio for smoking, two dance rooms, and a drag show most nights. The DJ keeps great music going all night, and the crowd loves dancing & drinking! I’d say its perfect for the 18 – 30 age group!

I always have a good time when I go here. The crowd is mostly younger(18 – 30’s, some 40+ but not many). The entrance fee is kinda steep, but it depends what you like. Wednesdays are hit-or-miss; sometimes crowded and sometimes empty. Fridays are great, all-the-time packed with hot gorgeous people. Cover is $ 10 and free well draft beer is included on Wednesdays and Fridays. Sundays is another great crowded night. Music is always great as a mix between Dance/House and Top-40/Hip-Hop. AVOID Saturday nights if you don’t want to get shot or stabbed! Overall a great place, this club has been operating for over 50 years now and bad really brought gay culture to Charlotte in full force!

I am typically not one to feel very compelled to put a place on blast if I have had a bad experience there, but as one of the unfortunate 15 thusly referenced in several of the comments below in the Sharon Needles Halloween incident, I do feel that this HORRIFIC club deserves to have all of their wrongdoings brought to light, so that others like myself can hopefully avoid making long trips or going out of their way to see awesome performers in such a terrible environment. Sharon was slated to perform for the Halloween show. Apparently this Sharon Needles show means she is going to do two songs in an hour and a half, almost two hour time slot, with the rest of the time being given to costume contests, and house drag queens. I understand the need for Sharon to have breaks between sets, but it became ridiculous. I have seen her perform before, AT Scorpios, and she performed at least 5 songs. Two songs? Seriously? Had I known it was going to be this way, I would not have driven two hours and spent $ 50 for VIP to get in. As far as the VIP goes — I was essentially promised the world, was given nothing. This ticket included drinks, food, a meet & greet — none of this was available. I never saw drinks being offered, I did see a few plastic looking cupcakes sitting stalely on a counter somewhere, obviously untouched for a reason — they looked old and dirty. I was at the front of the line for the meet and greet, got screwed over by the Scorpio’s management, who told us that we were not, essentially, front ENOUGH, despite the fact that we had been waiting even before the show had ended, and was moved to the very BACK of the line — where I still waited for almost 2 and a half hours very patiently and very calmly for my opportunity to meet Sharon — tons and tons of people cut the line, but we still remained cool and just tried to play fair. The management then came by to tell us that Sharon would be leaving soon, and that we would only get a signature or quick photo with her, and that we would have to hurry — fine by me, as long as we got what we came for. Five people before my turn to meet Sharon, she left the line, and the literal handful of us left got NADA. After we came downstairs to speak to management to see what was going on, it became a circus — performers, bartenders, security, management, a whole random assortment of people who work at this club coming out to tell us different sides of the story, anywhere from the fact that us not meeting Sharon was our fault, to how Sharon was a «f**king b*tch» and how she should have stayed to meet all of us, to how they oversold the event and there were too many VIPs in the first place. Naturally, we all just started to ask for our money back — and at the mention of refunds and any sort of words being exchanged, who I believe may be a manager of the club, or at least who presented himself as the spokesperson as such, called me and a large group of others«faggots». I cannot in any way justify how in the world, and especially at a gay bar, such a slur is okay to be used. As soon as he yelled that word at us, the entire crowd started to become hostile, and he immediately called the police and security, at which point I left, and will be contacting someone at a later date to further inquire about my refund, which I do believe I am justified. So many things about this situation were wrong, yet a child could have done a better job planning this event than these grown people did — most importantly, overall organization and basic planning skills. Provide what you promise. Also, you cannot just place an entertainer in a room full of fans with no overseer and expect time to not run out — and, if you do have a specific amount of time in which the entertainer is available during, then you need to tell everyone that the entertainer will be leaving at that time, instead of letting it come to a surprise to all remaining when they have to watch the performer they paid money to come see literally run out of the room with their entourage. Someone should have been there to keep things efficient and running in a quick and orderly manner, instead of letting some fans spend 5 – 10 minutes with Sharon a piece. As much as we all wanted to do that, the rest of us were screwed, and got nothing, and that isn’t fair. Secondly, the very fact that the management at this club immediately called the police on us AND called us faggots … I cannot even with that. My time and my money was wasted, by being called a faggot in a place that is supposed to be LGBT friendly — hell, its a GAYCLUB — get real. The literal only good thing about this place is that the parking is free, so I will give them that, if I had to find one positive thing to say. I would drive many, many miles and many, many hours out of my way to see performers elsewhere before I ever gave this place another dime or a minute of my time. PS — I still love you, Sharon Needles. Scorpios — not so much. I will never, ever return

Me a couple friends went by Scorpios last night and it was a pretty good time. I haven’t been by there in years but the scene is pretty much the same as I remember and it’s always at the very least a good time and especially if you are in to dancing. I’ve heard the different nights have a little different things to offer but we landed on a friday which was 10 $ cover and all you can drink keg beer. I ended up having a couple of those and it’s just keg beer in a glass so don’t expect any premium stuff there. The liquor was reasonably priced and as always, be sure and tip the bartenders heavy on the first round and they’ll take better care of you later on. Oh yah, the place is pretty much cash only so be sure and bring some $‘s. They do have a ATM but you’re getting into the service charge there if you need to grab cash that way. I’d add some more here but I have to say Jimmy D’s review is very spot on. The dance floor is large and the music and lights are more than enough to get people going. The drag show they put on was decent but nothing outstanding.

The drinks are cheap and the music is pretty good depending on the DJ that night. Its not that expensive to get in, either. I guess you can kinda say I’m a regular… its the only club that I have fun at and the crowd is never rude — drunk of course especially on free draft beer night but never rude in my opinion. hahah Its a nicely sized place. I’ve had waaay too much fun at this club! They have three bars in total(one in the main room right by the big dance floor), one in ‘Divas’, and another upstairs when they have that open. If you wanna get some air they have a nice outside patio too. Lately I do have to say that the drag shows that I have seen have been kiiiinda boring to be honest but that’s not what I normally go there for unless they have special guests. Reading the comments I realize people are all like ‘this place is shady’ and, yeah, kinda is but I don’t expect something fancy unless its downtown. *lol* The only thing I don’t like is the creepy straight dudes that show up and lurk around, especially on Fridays. They really don’t take a hint. But that’s with every club in my experience, sadly. xD And in my opinion Scorpio is kinda more-so for the guys. I’m a queer female and I find it hard to spot the girls who aren’t just their for their gay bf. I’ve gone on every day they are open but Saturday — my friends say the crowd can be kinda ghetto. House liquor is free on Sundays, free draft beer on Wednesday. Other specials are normally only 3 bucks which is good in my book! I read on another review that the drinks were weak but like every bar if you tip them well your bartender will treat your right. If your looking for something fun to do with no frills and no pretentious people this is the place.

This place is pretty hard to review. Depending on your sobriety level when you leave, it may be because you have a little trouble remembering your time there. When you enter past the surly ticket takers and go through the doors you’re greeted by the booming music of top 40s remixes, though I do like the fact that they don’t play it so loud that you can’t hear someone screaming in your ear. The drinks here are kinda eh, you don’t get much for your money and they are fairly weak in my opinion. Though I hear that on Sunday well drinks are free with a $ 10 cover, and Fridays offers free beer on tap so that’s something to keep in mind. The main reason to go here is for the dancing! They have a huge dance floor and it is quite a sight to see everyone dancing their tushes off! I was particularly amused by the twink who was twerkin it like it ain’t no thang! I always have a fun time here, even when I’m the DD. The patio outside is filled with people smoking and chatting each other up. Good if you’d like to have a conversation with someone you’ve met, not so good if you are adverse to cigarette smoke though. Scorpio’s is a fun time, and they have lots of cool drag shows that are pretty awesome to watch. There is a fair mix of people on most days. It is extremely ghetto on Saturday though, and lots of fights break out on that day though so I’d steer away from that day.

This is SUCH a fun bar and it is huge! The music is fantastic and there is so much room to dance. There is also an outdoor area and a separate salsa bar. Fridays is all you can drink beer for an $ 8 cover. They do have drag shows(not sure of the days) and they are pretty fun to watch. I think this place is a blast for straight and gay people!

You know, I’m not HUGE club fan, more into bars and such, but I really enjoy myself at Scorpio when we go. When we first moved here we read some bad things about it but we decided to check it out anyway to make our own opinion. On Wednesdays and Fridays, you pay a cover but get free draft beer. Who does that?! It’s great! On Saturdays it’s more of a hippity hop place, but I always see a large group of gays as well as straights on any night. Very mixed crowd, but plenty of choices. On Sundays there is always drag shows that are super entertaining, and on holidays, they always have some sort of special event going on. It’s a neat place. Don’t knock it til you try it!

It was dead on a Friday night but I was informed they were only open that evening for a special show. The most notable thing going on was a young lady’s bachelorette party and what you might call a fashion karaōke event. But I was looking for dancing. I hear the night to go is Sundays. I can’t go on Sundays since I have to be back at work at 9am the next day. How people do that and stay employed is a mystery to me. Trying to find a solid dance floor with some good tunes on the weekend in Chartown is making me desperate because the current options leave a lot to be desired if you’re a transplant from a city with a solid nightlife and far less-strict nightclub laws. Nightclubs are appearing and disappearing like bats in the night in this city. And if you try to rely on publications like Creative Loafing to keep up on everything you’ll find yourself chasing the dust and glitter of a crowd already gone. They do have a full bar and lots of room to move around on the dance floor. But they tend to have a small show/performance, then play music, then interrupt the music with another show. That’s a buzz kill for me. Since I’m not there for the other reason(not that there’s anything wrong with that) I probably won’t be going back to check out the dance floor again unless the grapevine sends an alert that they’ve cranked up a regular Friday or Saturday thing. But I’m keeping my eye on these guys because if they did get«dance serious» during weekend prime time it would be hopping mad.
