My new favorite place. Unpretentious, neighborhood bar feel. Yet clean, polite, and overall attentive staff. Cheesesteaks are awesome! Honestly I’ve been 5 times now and I keep getting cheesesteaks. Except one time when I got a Hot Pounder. Guess what? That was also awesome! Recommend the buffalo chicken hot pounder. Also, awesome beer on tap. Great specials. Not everybody knows my name… yet. But that’ll come in due time.

Nice place to just hang out and relax. Steak & Cheese was delightful, made with great detail, not a greasy mess. Fries were good and cooked with fresh oil. Bake potatoes were delicious(those potato connoisseurs know what I am talking about). Salad was fresh. Again, a nice place to hang out(inside or outside) with good food.

A great no frills American Irish pub. I thoroughly enjoy it every time I go there and definitely one of my favorite spots ion C’Ville. Great bar food with and good dose of the classics and cheesy tots(ask for a side of Gravy to dip them in it is divine). Simple, fun, nice staff, and a good atmosphere.

I am a sucker for the Irish Pub scene, so naturally, when I was traveling through Charlottesville, and this place popped up on my phone, I had to try it and I’m glad I did. Great food, great service and a great bar atmosphere. TV’s everywhere which is always a plus as well. Next time I’m in town, I will be coming back here for sure!

This place is incredibly bad and horrible. The worst dining experience we’ve ever had. Not only were they out of what we wanted, the scooby snacks were ¾ milk, the«fish and chips» were soggy breaded flakes of something resembling fish and potato chips(crisps). The fish was soggy, burned on the outside but raw in the middle. Not to mention the service was poor and the bartender used a straw to take a sip of our drink before he brought it to us. Simply horrified. .Ramsey Gordon would have ripped them a new one! DONOTGOHERE! #suckiestpubever

Not the best steak & cheese I’ve had. Actually it was not good at all. The buffalo chicken dip was delicious though.

A great Irish bar well outside the influence of UVA undergrads. My group of friends came to McGradys Irish Pub to watch a football game on Saturday. The place had a good crowd and we easily found seating. Our server was gregarious and very funny — he pretended to reject changing the TV to the game we wanted, which we at first took seriously, before he burst out laughing and said«Nah guys it’s all good.» Major points for this, as some bars when asked to change the game look at you like you just slapped their mother. The bar had a good variety of beers on tap($ 4 – 6 a pint), and pitchers were reasonably priced($ 13 – 15). They also offer a good selection of bar food that didn’t skimp on portion sizes(check out the Irish Nachos picture below). We had a little bit of everything appetizers-wise — Nachos, Chicken Tenders, Fried Mac & Cheese bites — and for bar food it was definitely above average. And yes, they do indeed offer car bombs at reasonable prices. Overall, if you’re looking to get away from undergrads and like your bars with a vague Irish theme, you’ll have a good time at McGradys. Good service, good food, reasonable prices, a pool table, shuffleboard — what else do you need?

Well the service is all around awful. The bartender seemed to be a bit of an idiot. I asked him to change games to which he smiled, nodded, and went to randomly stacking and unstacking cups. There also seems to be a practice of food leaving the kitchen, then bartender would ask a local patron to deliver the food to customers tables. I’m not too sure on the hygienic standards of this, but I assure you the food deliverer was not a frequent hand washer. And the food sucked, but that wasn’t a shocker.

DONOTSUPPORTTHISBUSINESS!!! Waitress said special is 3.00 Yagerbombs. Oh, ok. Great. Well, when the bill comes the price is 4.75 per drink(we had 10 total) and rang up as tropical drink. Obviously, not my bill. BUT, when I asked her to fix it, she informs me it is right, that 1.75 is for the redbull. Uh… Ok. So, I try to find the manager, who is unavailable. So, either you employ waitresses who don’t know what they’re selling OR you have waitresses committing fraud. Either way, I will inform everyone I know to not support this shady business.

Homophobic. They initially wouldn’t let my friends order drinks because they were dressed too effeminately. We tried to go hear a couple nights later but then they ban us outright from the bar, without explanation.

We have eaten at McGradys twice, both times on the patio. We have two young kids, so the patio is a more pleasant area with less noise and no TVs. The food is better than I would expect for a local pub. I’ve enjoyed a cheesesteak, stuffed baked potato, wings, and various happy hour appetizers. They also have fantastic tater tots. The beer selection is extensive, although we ended up ordering the delicious IPA from Three Notch Brewery(which is next door). Good food, good beer, and nice atmosphere(on the patio anyway)!

Good ol irsh pub. Kinda out of the way and hard to find parking unfortunately. For an Irish pub its ok. Large open bar with lots of space. Shuffle board. Darts I think as well. Friendly people. I’ve never seen it super packed but may just be timing. Nothing exceptional.

Typical beers, greasy/nasty food, younger/obnoxious crowd, meh service. There are too many awesome places in Cville to go here.

I really enjoy McGrady’s for what it is. It’s not particularly Irish but it has the best prices for trivia in town hands down(sorry Mellow!) and the service is typically always on point although occasionally when they are slammed you shouldn’t plan on seeing the server for quite awhile. I’ve always had positive experience with their food: fish n chips are good for what they are and are reasonably priced, their chicken tenders and fries are great, and their potato skins are really good(although the portion is pretty tiny). That being said I have heard the wings can be extremely hit or miss(I’ve never had them myself) and are either amazing or gross. The last time we came the wings were super dry, overcooked, and undersauced. The time before that they were great… so take your chances. They have great dinner specials for trivia and random week nights. Their pitchers are also reasonably priced and their mixed drinks are tasty and pretty cheap too. Overall I like McGrady’s for a casual spot.

While McGrady’s seems like a decent place to hang out with friends(hello, big outdoor patio!), but as for sports bars/Irish pubs, I’ve definitely experienced better. There are tons of TVs for easy game-watching, but the music is totally mainstream and loud, the tap list leaves something to be desired, and the wings(frankly) just weren’t that great. One quick note of interest: the Quizzo sounded competitive and had the most original names I’ve ever heard.

McG’s will always hold a very dear place in my heart because that was where I had my first lunch with my law school section and then a 5.8 earthquake happened. At first, no one reacted ATALL(and by that, the guy next to me kept on eating his burger), so I thought I had ingested some kind of hallucinogen and was tripping. Everyone else remained calm, from the construction workers outside to the waiters to my classmates. At least we all learned from that episode that the good citizens of Charlottesville could be counted upon to retain their wits in case some major catastrophe occurred. I’m not really a pub person so I can’t comment on the many televisions scattered about or the abundance of bar food(mozz sticks, buffalo wings, nachos, burgers), but this is a nice place for a big group to hang out over a few pitchers of beer. Friendly bartenders held their own during a crowded school fundraiser event. Be aware that the nachos are not tortilla chips but actual potato chips drenched in chili, cheese, some bits of unidentifiable meat, and not much else. We ordered the nachos at the bar, they came at the bar, and we drew stares from these two girls in bunny ears while we eviscerated the whole plate. Whatever. Eat like no one in body-conscious dresses and bunny ears and Playboy cufflinks is watching!

Fun little pub that has an extensive beer collection, a decent menu and even live music on occasion. Lots of TVs for football Sundays. In fact, the Steel City Mafia meets here to watch the Steelers. But other fans seem to be welcome.
