It was a very unpleasant experience. First of all, the service is really bad the waitress are very rude and they have the guts to serve old food. We wanted to dine in and have roasted pork. We saw that the roasted pork was exposed there and he looked good, so we wanted to order a pound of it($ 10/lb). The waitress said that we could not order by the pound because we were dining in. She said we could only do an order which was $ 8 for only half a pound of it. I listed and said that she could do that just for us this time. When the food came the pork was stale it tasted very cold, rubbery and the skin wasn’t crunchy at all. We complained and she said that it is how it is. We said that we know how it should taste so we don’t want it. She just took the dish, never apologized, never came back to serve us or ask if we need any other dish. Just very disappointing. Do not recommend to anybody. Be careful not to get food poisoning.

We ordered lots of food to go, I only found the chicken feet is good. Pretty disappointed with the duck, bbq pork and Mai Fun. The price is much higher than similar places in Minneapolis

let me start off by saying I have been wanting to go to this restaurant for so long. I have been hearing mixed reviews about it but I wanted to try it out for myself. so the restaurant is very clean I went there for early lunch last week. I started out with the BBQ combo and after that that was pretty much it for me. the soup was not ready that comes with the combo so I assume that she gave extra vegetables like you say it but I’m pretty much looking like you know a regular plate of vegetables. the duck was very dry and the barbecue chicken didn’t have any flavor whatsoever. the whole time I was there it seems as if the hostess was right on my shoulder the entire time I was there. so that made me feel very uncomfortable and like I said I cook my food to go but I threw it in the garbage needless to say I was very disappointed.

Every time i’m in Chinatown I always stop by here to get/eat some duck. There are times that I order a whole duck and take it to go :) This time we ordered a whole duck to eat in and it was just as good as I remembered. Juicy, rich, fatty, and all sorts of goodness! Between 2 people we had about a 1⁄3 of a duck left, so we had duck the next day… no complaints here :) The only bad thing is the service, which we had to wave down a waitress to bring us water, utensils, etc. Other than that, the food is what you’re really here for, so you won’t be disappointed in that.

Love love love!!! This is legit duck… the way it’s done in Asia! Looks old, small and deceiving of a restaurant but if you don’t give it a chance, you’re missing out big time!!! And you can’t beat the price and no tax on top of your meal!

As a broke graduate student living near Chinatown, this place is a blessing. I only found this place when I ended up in Chinatown earlier than when Joy Yee’s was suppose to open. BBQ King has alot of «over rice» entrees that are less than $ 7 and they also include a side of their soup along with the entrée. I usually order the roasted duck or roasted pork over rice. Yum yum! Sadly, no delivery though! Decent service as well. The lady waitresses have always been quick and friendly. Also the owner has a picture of himself w/Obama so it must be legit right?

If you’re not a frequent China town visitor, don’t be put off by the ducks in the window or the lack of décor at this gem of a restaurant. If I’m ever feeling sick, and even when I’m not, this is my go-to restaurant for the best bowl of BBQ Pork Wonton Noodle Soup. The broth isn’t your usual dishwater, it’s well seasoned and tasty! The BBQ pork is perfectly cooked, and delicious and the noodles are exactly how good chinese noodle soup should be. I always get a big bowl for myself and I can’t remember the last time I’ve had anything but a little broth left over. Another of my favorites is the Singapore Fried Rice Noodles, which is spicy curry noodles with vegetables, BBQ pork and shrimp. Most places in Chicago just throw in a jalapeño pepper when you want it spicy, and it’s almost impossible to find someplace that has a spicier curry. This place actually brought me a Singapore noodle dish with spicy curry. It was delicious and brings me back time after time.

Omg, best roast duck in Chinatown, hands down. It’s a small restaurant with few tables, I order to go. They also got roast chicken, roast pork, basically all the roasted meat. I order some duck, wings, pork belly carry out to take home and devour, lol. Duck is like about 21 $/whole 12/half. Pork belly about 10 $/pound. It adds up, put a dent in my wallet but hey you only live once. Definitely get some when you ever in Chicago, BBQ king.

Lackluster for Chinatown — good for a lowkey meal but food was lacking in wok hei for a price point just a little bit higher than Seven Treasures, my go-to cheap option.

I don’t think BBQ King gets enough credit among Chinatown locals and visitors. It’s a modest establishment, with a small informal dining room and carryout counter. The pork and poultry roasts hang from hooks in the kitchen, separated from the dining area and the outside by plexiglass windows. In my mind, this is all the ambience a Chinese barbeque restaurant needs. If you are looking for white tablecloths and fancier service, there are a number of other establishments in Chinatown Square ready to take your money, such as Ming Hin. Everything here is at least pretty good. I recommend you stick with what they are good at and order some barbecue. The roast pork is done to perfection. The duck I’ve had here is unusually plump and juicy. Honorable mention for the greens and garlic, which may be my favorite vegetable dish I’ve had in Chinatown.(All the fiber and vampire-repellent qualities one needs in a vegetable plate.) You can get liquor here, though it’s not an extensive menu. I’ve never seen this place crowded, and yet I can tell they do a steady business. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

3.5! Came here late night because I heard they do Peking duck for a good price! My bf and I got there and started perusing the menu, deciding how to order(more like, how not to over-order!) for 2 people. The Peking duck special was $ 40 or so, which in addition to the duck, comes with duck bone soup, stir-fried duck with veggies in brown sauce, and a plate of sautéed shrimp. The menu describes this as a «meal for 3−4» buuuuuuut oh well! Flavor was very tasty and skin was crispy. However, I felt like the plate of Peking duck was disproportionate — mostly skin and not enough meat. So we took the stir fry duck and put it in our bun instead. We also got a salty fish fried rice. Yum! Would recommend people visiting the area to try it out!

This is the place to go for your Chinese style BBQ needs. We picked up 1.5 lbs. of the roasted BBQ pork and it was juicy, moist, and full of flavor. They will chop the meat for free too if you ask.

BBQ King is my parent’s go-to place for duck/roast pork/chicken for any occasion. Make sure you call ahead and order if you know when you want it. You can avoid waiting in line if it’s a holiday if you order ahead. If we are entertaining guests, my parents like to bring them here to have them try their small duck dinner. For $ 33.88, you get salt&pepper head-on shrimp, duck soup, duck meat fried with vegetables and Peking duck(duck skin w/some meat sandwiches between a soft, white bao). The Peking Duck is my favorite of the dinner and it also comes with hoisin sauce & scallions. Service is always reliable!

31 – 2 stars Food was good but flavor is not like it use to be. The duck taste good but something is different, it’s missing that flavor that makes you want to devour the whole meal. Lobster Cantonese style: good not great, sauce was too thick. Peking duck: good but missing that to die for flavor. Salt and pepper shrimp: good but nothing special. Soya duck: gods but a bit dry, may be because we ordered this late in the day, came with thick plum sauce. Roast duck is better… that comes with an Au jus duck sauce Location is in new Chinatown strip with plenty of choices to eat, maybe it’s time to try something new.

we went there on Father’s Day to get some BBQ Pork and Duck, while we were there, we decided to grab dinner. What a mistake! The restaurant is half empty. Should have followed your guts. We never has any issues with the place though. We often buy stuff there and occasionally eat there. The BBQ chef knows our faces. Anyway, we sat down. Had no tea. Then we ordered dinner for 5. We did not want the Squab, we wanted to have Soy Sauce Chicken. The waitress said she needed to charge us $ 2 extra for half of the Soy Sauce Chicken instead of the Squab which it does not make sense. Squab costs more but I was not going to argue with her. Then came the owner’s friends, a family of three. They said down and ordered after us. We had a BBQ Platter which the BBQ Pork had nothing but chewy fat!!! After we told the waitress, she told the whole plate back and added some BBQ Pork but some missing Duck pieces from the plate. Our fish should come first but they gave our Fish to that family whom they knew. Our Fish finally came but was undercooked! They took it back but put it in the microwave to cook it. When you pay for Steamed Fish, it should be Steamed!!! If I wanted to microwave food, I go home and do it. After all the bad service, I still gave them 10% tips which they did not even deserve! The stared at us on the way out and did not even say thank you like they said many thanks to the other family! I refuse to be treated like a second class citizen and will not go there again!!! What made this worst is that the owner was there and saw what happened. Did not do anything about it or even apologize!!! Never never again!

Came here for dinner with a few friends and we came in starving. We left with a full belly and even some leftovers to take home. We ordered the Peking duck meal and it was really good! It came with soup and other dishes to eat with rice. We had more than enough food for 3 people. The staff was really friendly and the good was pretty decent. I’ll definitely come back!

Very small restaurant. It was my first time here so I just ordered what sounded good on the menu. As soon as we got there we lost reception so we couldn’t look at pictures to help us-so food wise, I wasn’t impressed. Probably because we didn’t order what they’re best at making. I didn’t like when we shared a table with others because it seemed like we didn’t have enough space for everything we ordered, so we moved to another table just for the two of us. I definitely want to go back, this time knowing what to order ahead of time.

My friend and I wound up at BBQ King House for lunch on Christmas Day, as our first three choices(dim sum establishments) in and near Chinatown Square all seemed really busy. That is to be expected, as this was past noon on a holiday and the weather was reasonably nice too. There was a constant line for the takeout counter featuring slabs of hanging barbecued meats. We chose to dine in and were seated immediately, at a table beside a wall displaying photos of the owner with prominent politicians(including a portrait with President Obama, though I’m guessing he has not dined here). We were both hungry, and so we gravitated towards the set menu of the«small» Peking Duck dinner(there is also a large Peking Duck dinner that is for 8 — 10 persons but has a bunch of additional dishes too). We were stoked as our meal is supposedly for 3 to 4 persons, so we were geared to take some leftovers home. The service was reasonably quick, as all of our dishes came out in rapid succession along with a pot of tea and large glasses of water. The duck was not carved and served in front of us, but we were fine with that. The first and most cherished dish is the plate of duck and crispy skin pieces, presented with alternating layers of whitish bao bun slices. We happily devoured these scrumptious pieces of duck, and I also added spoonfuls of plum sauce from a plastic cup. There is also a tasty dish of shredded duck with veggies(baby broccoli, onions), mixed with gravy and served with white rice. The duck soup is filled with duck bones and greens. I actually liked the mild brothy soup, though my friend did not care for it. She liked the plate of peppery shrimp much better than the soup, but we both agreed that the Peking Duck was quite good and worth the mild splurge($ 33.88 plus tax) on this Christmas Day since we are worth it.

If there is only one place you buy a portion of a flash fried duck this year, this is your spot! Seriously though, the duck is legit. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a counter behind which are displayed an array of fowl that have met their demise so that you may enjoy tender inside and crispy skin! After waiting in line for a solid 10 minutes and wondering if I was doing something wrong, things started to move and we learned it was simply the gent in front of us, who appeared to be feeding a church, was the culprit. The duck and BBQ pork are both particularly good. A half of a duck, chopped to go and a lunch BBQ pork ran $ 14 — a little on the expensive side, but well worth the trip. The duck came chopped, which made for some good eats on the way home! The pork was excellent as well and for $ 6 came with rice and some Bok Choi. Reasonable and satisfying = win. I hear other places are a bit cheaper, but this place is worth the show if only for the winged creatures hanging from the other side of the window.

The best Pecking Duck in town! Hot Tea is served gratis. Small Pecking Duck Dinner(serves 3 – 4) $ 40 — excellent value. We ordered it as late lunch. Plentiful brown bag. Dinner has 4 dishes: Bone Soup — literal. Due to its simplistic taste, best consume first. Duck Skin with Bun — addictive. I can eat it all day long. Lots of flavor. Great marbling. Nice bun. *wink* Sautéed Duck Meat — can feed an entire village. LOL. Just right sauce. Sautéed Shrimp — good size and portion. A nice change to the duck-oriented dishes. *smile* You can still enjoy Pecking Duck for an 8 am breakfast. In its entirety, Pecking Duck still taste great after microwave. Hong Kong Tea — lighter taste than I am used to. BBQ Chicken Liver — delicious! Want some more please. Black Egg Congee — excellent portion for 2. Nicely cooked rice. The added meat did have a weird taste that was easily taken out and did not affect the overall congee taste. VENUE — an ordinary Chinatown place with so so bathroom and dining area. SERVICE — they try their best and mindful of providing you the best service.
