Absolutely disgusting… The interior, the quality /taste of the food. Visited once and will not be back.

I am in love with this place. The store front looks a little shabby, but don’t be deterred. Their food is five star excellent. We always get delivery and the food is always piping hot and crispy. Their chicken is so, so good and the broasted potatoes are like butter. Awesome prices and fast service. Jeff Park gem!

Everything was delicious! Loved the mashed potatoes not from a box! And the chicken was perfect! If they had promos through grubhub I would be ordering more often.

Pretty good. Chicken, broasted potatoes and cole slaw very good. Will try something else next time. It does take some time because they cook it up when you order it, not sitting there for a few hours when you get there. But very fresh. The people that work there are very nice. Will be back.

The menu is pretty simple. Chicken or pizza. We got the chicken, and a couple sides. The chicken was fried up nice and crispy. Sadly, the breading was just boring. It needed some seasoning badly. The broasted fries were fries. Nothing special. The people running it were super nice and would give them another shot.

Unfortunately living nearly 40 miles away, I don’t get to visit this gem often enough. A few times a year, when visiting with family, I stomp my feet until everyone agrees to order from Broasted Chicken Royal. As has been mentioned, the pieces are huge, and the price is excellent. Just got a 20/pc family meal on Saturday and it was like $ 30 for the chicken, loads of broasted potatoes, cole slaw, and rolls. The service is quick, you are always greeted with a smile by one of the nicest gentlemen around, and the chicken is fantastic. You won’t be sorry… give this place a try!

Our area lacks good Chinese, seafood fry spot(Sharks) and a fried chicken place. Well, that was until we found Broasted Chicken. Crispy, tender well seasoned chicken.16 pieces for $ 20. The pieces are gigantic! Bye bye Popeye’s, hello Broasted Chicken Royal. The family was pleased with the food, that we will continue to bring this for our potluck portion to future parties. Owned by a family who prides them self on their family business and giving back to their community, come support this Mom and Pop’s.

I called in, I wanted 2 breast 3 legs, just Chicken. Made to order, 20mins. got it ! Walked in, Big guy at register welcomed me. I reconized his rasp voice, he took my call! Big dude was Very pleasant, maybe he was the owner, hum… I wonder? My Chicken was hot & steamy when I opened the«box». Chicken in a box right… u gotta love that. «I do» Kinda like a box lunch at school thing. My first bite was in the car. The aroma, then my hunger, both ambushed me! I had to pull over. Yum, nothing more is needed. It’s, «Broasted Chicken done just right. Wow, did i use Yum…(men don’t use yum) yes!, I did. Why they butterfly the breast meat? It cooks faster, and cause it’s «Yummier» that way. After that second bite, I called back to the restaurant to Thank Big dude and then told him, «I will be back», «like you will too!.» Good stuff my brothas n sistas, Yall wont b disappointed. I don’t know about the sides. Just Chicken was my hunger roar of the day. Guys, also I read, that Big dude’s been cooking since 1952!!! Oh! and I found out don’t bother reheating it, Next day, Its just as good cold from the frig!

So looking forward to eating local and fresh — but chicken wasn’t seasoned, neither the potato wedges. Kind of bland.

As a «local» of the Jefferson Park neighborhood for over thirty years… this«Broasted Chicken Royal» is the best, EVER! I go there at least twice to three times a month… as a busy high school art teacher, this place gives me huge pieces of chicken, enough potato wedges to feed a small army and great cole slaw, too! If you need a fast –ready-to-eat” meal… then Broasted Chicken Royal on Lawrence Avenue on Chicago’s North-Side, is your go-to place! Please send me a cash off coupon for this great review, if you can… and I’ll cash it in with my next order, next week! from da C-Mann from cHicAgo (the H & A are large to denote the City of Chicago skyline!)

PROS: Good stuffed pizza and broasted potatoes. Super friendly service. I ordered a 7-UP, they told me they were out. A few seconds into the order they said«it’s okay, if we have to we will go across the street to get a 7-up.» CONS: My pizza order was wrong. :(I ordered a cheese stuffed pizza. I recieved a sausage stuffed pizza. I didn’t call back to let them know because I was sick and didn’t feel like dealing with it. I will try again because they were nice. Even though the order was wrong, this goes to show that a friendly attitude can make up for it.

I was looking for Chicken for dinner and I found Broasted Chicken Royal on Unilocal. It’s pretty small from the outside. The people were very nice and helpful. I ordered the chicken buffet. The Chicken: I really wanted to chicken to be great. The chicken was juicy and tender, but it didn’t have a lot of flavor. I was disappointed. The guys were really nice and I wanted to give the place a great rating. I know you can order the chicken with BBQ sauce, but I wanted just plain breaded chicken with some seasoning. OWNERS: If you are reading this, please offer a seasoned version of this chicken. It was juicy, but just didn’t have enough flavor. The broasted potatoes were pretty good. I didn’t fault these for not being salted, since that is how they are normally served. A little salt brought them out of their shell. The coleslaw was good. It was smooth and had a nice fresh flavor. We also had the onion rings. They had a great batter on them. Maybe could have been a little more crispy, but they tasted great. The inside is a cool old school look. It was clean inside and the people were great. Again, I really want to like the chicken, but it needed a little something in the way of seasoning. I may return to give them another chance.

Broasted Chicken Royale was my first job. I worked with the two previous owners. Under the Ol’ German lady, the place was spic and span, she ran a tight ship and was very proud of her product. And, though the hours long and laborious, the chicken was delicious. Then, a young family took over, we still worked hard but there was definitely an element of fun to it. The recipe’s stayed the same. Food was still amazing. I still remember the yellowish piece of paper the«secret» rib recipe was written on. I moved on to the real world and so did this family, they sold the business. And my family and I have not eaten there in years. Until today. WOW have the prices jumped through the roof. Must be a sign of the times. The pop cooler was off and empty, that made me sad. There seemed to be a lack of order and method. Anyways, the chicken was ready when promised, woo hoo! I asked for BBQ sauce when I was there and had to wait for the young man to fill the cups, really? Took it home, took a bite, and yuck, where did the flavor go? Plus, my hands glistened with sheen much like the gulf after this latest oil spill. The broasted potatoes, they are the same, delicious! You can’t mess them up. The coleslaw is good too but they literally give you two forks of it and that’s being generous,…My advice, get back to the basics! Marinate the chicken like we used to, clean the fat off of it, and give us a bit more than a bite of coleslaw.

This summer while at a photo shoot we stumbled across a menu from Broasted Chicken Royal, so we ordered. Not knowing what to expect we were so happy when we started chowing down. .. the best and juiciest chicken EVER and the Broasted potato’s «FORGET about it» they were to die for. .. good old fashioned chicken dinner for a great value. They are a bit out of the way but sooooooooooo worth the trip. It took me a couple of months to find the place again. .. I did remember it was West on Lawrence, but found myself driving up and down Lawrence not knowing an address or name. .. until one day last week when I finally saw a chicken on the window. .. I was happy to find it, and had some tonight, they ROCK and I would order chicken for my next party. .. it’s really good chicken!

Many moons ago, my friend Karen and I frequented this place. It was run by an elderly German woman who made the best ribs ever. Go figure. Then she sold the place, and we just stopped going. The two events weren’t really related, it was just a matter of not really having the opportunity to get over there much, which eventually turned into forgetting about it. So tonight I was poking around Grub Hub looking for a place that would deliver to me, and not wanting pizza or Chinese, and I discovered that Broasted Chicken Royal not only was still in business but would deliver to my area. I wasn’t in the mood for ribs either, but I remembered that they made excellent BBQ chicken, too, so I ordered a 4-piece dinner and several cans of pop, so I’d have something in the fridge for tomorrow and Monday. I phoned just before 8. A projected 45 minute wait seemed reasonable. At ten past nine I phoned the restaurant and was told that the delivery guy had been trying to phone me. Nuh-uh, I told the guy on the phone, I’d been sitting at my desk the whole time, working on the computer. So he took my info again, and I told him exactly how to find my place with very specific landmarks and all. At nine twenty, I went downstairs with my phone and the money to see if there was any sign of the delivery. At nine-thirty I phoned the place again, and there was no answer. I was just about to give up and go back inside when the car pulled up with two people in the front seat. How on earth do TWO people manage to get lost and stay lost for more than forty-five minutes with specific directions and confirmation of a phone number which I know for a fact they never used? I was handed a pair of lukewarm, soggy bags, and I honestly thought about telling the delivery guy that it was too late and I didn’t want them anymore, but I was so hungry I just paid him and came back upstairs. Now, I don’t know about anyone else but when I order a dinner with four pieces of chicken, that’s enough for at least two people, so I sort of expect to get enough sides for two. Instead I got one bun, and a small tub of coleslaw, and a bag of broasted potatoes which had to be reheated in the microwave because, ugh, cold and greasy. In all fairness I have to say that the menu never actually says how much of each side you’ll get, so the assumption was mine, but I think it was a reasonable assumption based on the fact that a standard dinner is two pieces of chicken. I got my four chicken breasts but they weren’t the kind of BBQ I’m familiar with. It was almost like I got plain old broasted chicken with some sauce slapped on. And not even any extra sauce! It tasted fine, but not exciting in any way. The coleslaw was pretty generic, like the sort you get from KFC, and the bun? It was bread, it was filling and it was fresh. And there was no butter with it. Big change from the era when I was eating there fairly often and we got biscuits, butter and honey with our meals. There were no utensils or napkins in the bags either, and while I didn’t need them, I think it’s just a courtesy to provide them. Over all I just wasn’t impressed by the way the restaurant has changed, and won’t be ordering from them again.
