Harrigan’s

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for many many years and don’t really want you to discover this place. Just kidding, kind of. Authentic Irish pub. Fabulous honest service. Harrigan’s has been here since the ‘50s. Great bar food comes from Select Cut at great prices, but food is cash only. When my suburban friends come in, this is where I take them when it’s likely to be not too busy. Bartender Brian on Sundays is my favorite. He lives in the neighborhood and is SO great. There is also the owner Brian, who was born in Ireland, but I’ve yet to meet him. I was first brought here in the ‘90s by a neighbor, and I’ve never had a bad experience. Also, I’m female, and this is a place I’m comfortable coming to by myself. There is a respectful atmosphere here, and it is CLEAN!

Went to Harrigan’s with a large group on a Friday night. It’s a small, rather intimate Irish pub on Halsted that’s rocking karaōke on the weekends. Thankfully it wasn’t too crowded that night so you had plenty of room to move around and rock out to some great (and not so great…) singing.
What struck me more than anything was just how incredibly friendly the bar staff was! The guys at the bar were super attentive and happy to take your order and the guy checking IDs was shooting the shit with us while some of our friends were singing up front. They really made me feel welcome at the bar!
They also take a ton of pictures of the people singing and post them immediately on their facebook page, which is hilarious. Definitely two thumbs up for Harrigan’s!

Really relaxed nice atmosphere, and they have karaōke! It’s a really fun place in looking forward to going back sometime.

I came here on a Monday night and the live Irish music was spectacular. The group that plays are extremely talented and seem very passionate about their craft. A great, chill spot to start off the week with some friends and a cold beer!

Harrigan’s is my new Monday night hang out spot. They have live Irish music from 8 until 10 or so. This week there were about 5 people performing together. The main two artists, Ian and Eva, are super talented. They crowd is small, so you are almost guaranteed a good spot to listen in and have a pint or two with friends. See you next week, Harrigan’s!

The only beer that tasted ok was the Guinness on draft. Everything else were flat and jus tasted wrong.
We went here to watch the Hawks game, then left after 1 drink.

Really relaxed atmosphere. Good type of divey-​ish bar. Affordable, talkative, meet other people type of bar.

Coat Hooks: Yess, plenty but all too low for a long winter coat.
Also: Great burgers, friendly staff, too much karaōke

Met the love of my life here last weekend great spot nice bar tenders, can’t sing but that doesn’t stop them from letting me up on the stage. I’ll be back this weekend bring your ear plugs guys :)

I went here with a bunch of girls over summer. I love it. Bar tender hooked us up. Great deals on our drinks and we even watched people sing kereoke. It was pretty funny. Good times. Good place for a low key Irish bar.

So I really wanted to belong to an Irish pub that was closer to home than my usual River North haunts and I discovered this place. Irish bartenders and a fun atmosphere brings in a good crowd. The food comes from the neighboring steak place, which is awesome, and beers are as expected. The Guinness is a sloppy pour and the rest of the beers are often foamy, from what I could see, but hey, that’s part of the charm, right? Great music is always playing and they often have live bands and theme nights. And if it’s your birthday, they have a blow up sheep, I think. Sometimes they let girls dance on the bar– girls who should not be dancing on a bar– so that’s kinda yuck.
So yeah, I really wanted this to be one of my go to places, but I have to admit that I haven’t been back since a certain stunning bartender quit. Ah well.

This place has gone downhill in the last few years. The owner is an extremely unpleasant Irish fellow who is way too loud and opinionated for my taste. Last time I was in I, actually, threw down a $ 10 half way through my second beer and walked out I was so over this place.
There are plenty of better bars, in the area: Trinity, Paddy Longs, Galway Bay, Hidden Shamrock… or buying a bottle of V.O. and drinking it in a private garbage can.

I liked the vibe at Harrigan’s, I’m a sucker for the classic Irish pub, but the beers were half-​foam. That’s rude to the customer and simple laziness on the part of the bartender. There are way too many pubs in Chicago for me to pay for foam.

If you’ve been to Vaughn’s on Sheffield then you’ve been here/​Exact Carbon Copy! I think I was more annoyed with the clientele than anything. not a bad place by any means. On one end there was some woman doing a «Tavern Tour» with a super annoying voice and on the other end a bunch of dudes with Papa Johns Pizza? This is Chicago, we don’t order from that joint! Overall, decent Irish Spot. GTFJD

A small Irish bar in yuppieville. it seemed to much of an average college bar to me and being near depaul maybe it is. it is small and hardly has any televisions. People here will be playing the crap out of the juke box at all times.

Harrigan’s is THE irish bar, at least as far as I’m concerned after stopping by as part of the Chicago Beer Experience. The owner/​bartender is a rock star and will educate you if you wish whilst getting you good and tipsy. Only after my trip to Harrigan’s did I realize that probably more then half the time I order a Guinness, it’s poured wrong. But oh man, when it’s right, so sweet when it hits the lips…

Not sure if the sore throat I woke up with this a.m. was due to a) my loud cheering for the awesome live open mic singers or b) the fact that my beer was served in a dirty glass… oops. But honestly, that minor mishap won’t stop me from coming back to this fun little Irish pub!
Good beer selection, chill atmosphere, and friendly service with an Irish accent… yep, I’m sold. Also excited to hear that they regularly have live music on weekends and a trivia night.

A few friends and I came here to celebrate the annual Pride Parade! The owners are authentically Irish and are hilarious! I loved that they had a mic and were narrating the parade from the window. It was entertaining to us as well as all the participants on the floats. The «MC» (or, being Irish, should I say McMC?) was super clever and had true comedic talents. They were very warm and friendly and we felt very welcomed. It was a good time, and I can see why my friends had recommended this place and considered it there «go to» place for pride every year. I’m looking forward to next year!

It was hot this Sunday and I was making a blitz to get soccer gear, a Father’s Day gift, while trying to get out in time to watch the Cubs avoid the sweep against the Angels and then World Cup Match. Beads of sweat were falling from my head and I had to stop for some pop at the local Dunkin’ Donuts down the street. As the bus was approaching, I realized, «Hey! There is a bar down the street with some TVs, I should go check it out!»
Checked it out I did, having gone to Harrigan’s before I knew that it had the trappings of a sports bar. Cool Irish currency was lodged all over the bar with a fine layer of coating covered it all. Overhead were two Irish flags and in the corner my heart stood still and I damn near lost it: CORK dartboard ! ! ! !
There were a couple of people in the bar and I gave them fair warning: I was going to blow my vuvuzela! The buzzing filled the bar and we all had a laugh at it. On TV were the Cubs annihilating the Angels while Brazil was sticking it to Ivory Coast. Beers were flowing and I took my spot at the dartboard which was worn but still had more mileage in it. There wasn’t any chalk to play with, but I didn’t mind whatsoever.
By the darts was a Wii that people could play with, Golden Tee in the back and an electronic juke. The bartender was congenial and offered up a menu that featured food from the restaurant next door. Apparently the buffalo chicken sandwich is not on the menu, but they will make you one if you ask nicely. The menu was reasonably priced and affordable, but I wasn’t too hungry and contented myself to play darts. I ended up spending far too much time here, but can’t say I regret it. Harrigan’s, ftw!
