I went with a group of 8 on Saturday 1⁄23. The ambiance was great. It’s an intimate place — it’s not a huge steakhouse with tons of tables. They had light music and the lighting was just the right level to be enough, but not feel like you were in an interrogation room. The servers were very friendly and knowledgeable, and once one of them realized that most of the people at the table spoke broken Spanish, she made the evening interactive, by teaching us the Spanish word for whatever she was giving us. It was really sweet. The food itself was phenomenal. I had the petite filet, which is «my» steak. I order it at every steakhouse I go to. The one I had here at Select Cut was easily the best I’ve ever had. It was cooked perfectly and was incredibly tender. The Bernaise sauce was not the best I’ve ever had, but it was still«pretty» good. I’d recommend Select Cut to anyone looking for a fantastic and intimate steak dining experience.

Mediocre. Front of house service other than our delightful waiter was a bit off. My burger was actually really good, which is what the 3 stars are for. My dining companions(steak and ribs) agreed that the dishes were too expensive for what they were.

This restaurant was just ok. Both of our steaks were under cooked in the middle and crispy and chewy along the edges. Everything else was average — you can’t do much wrong to a baked potato and broccoli. The fried shrimp was also average. If I am going to spend $ 120 for two people, I would expect better than average food. We won’t go back.

I placed an order for take out and paid twelve dollars for a burger that was supposed to come with grilled onions and a special sauce. I got home to find no sauce or onions on my burger. I called and told them and they offered to send someone out right away with what I assumed would be a new burger. They sent me grilled onions and sauce for my now cold burger. I can’t fairly judge the quality of the food because it was not as ordered and it was not hot. While the guy on the phone was very nice and apologetic I think at that price I should have got a new burger.

One should always be wary of a restaurant that has no customers, even at peak dinner time. Such is the case here. My salad was terrific, the freshest romaine lettuce I have ever been served. The steak, however, was unimpressive. Thin and too much gristle. I was expected to be impressed given the fact that this is a steakhouse but, unfortunately, the service, salad, veggies and potato were the highlight of the meal, not the steak. Oh well, they’ll be one more empty table next time.

Very average steak, good service from waiter but slow kitchen despite only one other table dining. The shrimp cocktail was a ripoff. $ 14 for 4 not so tasteful shrimps.

I truly enjoyed my meal here. We brought a Groupon and it was definitely worth it. The restaurant has such an intimate, warm feel. I had a Cesar salad to start with. It was pretty good and wasn’t overdressed. For dinner, I had the filet mignon and chicken breast combo. I was disappointed the Groupon didn’t include seafood because I REALLY wanted crab legs. No biggie. My meal was just as fabulous. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. Our server was just as nice and very attentive. Surprisingly after dinner I still had room for dessert, so I choose the salted Carmel cheesecake. It was excellent. I enjoyed the comfort of this restaurant. I’ll definitely be back!

What a disappointment. Maybe it was a bad night for them, but that is no excuse. I booked our table online@ bookatable and called to followup and tell them it was my husbands birthday. I requested a quiet table. When we arrived I was shocked to find it was a TINY dining room that almost ½ was a bar. We found out after we left they have a real dining room next door and those are the pictures on the website. When we arrived the bartender could not find our reservations, but that did not matter. the place was empty except for 2 men at the bar. We were seated and given menus. Sitting on the table was a bottle of wine and the usual items, but I was surprised to find those horrid little foil wrapped butter packs(plus they were frozen). If this was a restaurant that charged $ 10-$ 20 per person I would expect that, but this place is double that. We were brought bread and I asked for fresh butter. I was looked at like I was crazy. It was a special night so I just pushed past that. Next the waiter came over with a tray of plastic wrapped steaks to try and upsell custom cut steaks. It was weird the t-bone that was in a sealed airless pack(the kind you get in the frozen section). The others were wrapped in plastic wrap so you could not get a good look. We decided since the prices were already really high to go with the menu steaks. Rick ordered a sauce on his steak that did not arrive and we had to ask for 2 times. The steaks were cooked OK, but my baked potato was so dry(the skin was burnt in places) I pointed this out to the waiter and asked for sour cream and butter. I was pointed to the foil butter on the table and the waiter walked away. I called the waiter over and asked about my sour cream and butter and he pointed to the butter again and said, «good things are going well.» and walked away. I asked to speak to someone and was ignored, so @ this point we decided to just call it a night and take our after dinner walk and find dessert while walking. We asked for the bill and gave the waiter my CC and business card with a note for the manager to call me the next day. I signed the receipt and we left. I never heard from them While walking we turned and both asked, «Did he not speak english or was he oblivious?»

TLDR: Mediocre steak, way too strong alcoholic drinks. I love steak and go to many steakhouses, and I definitely expected better from this place. Ambiance was cute, very small maybe about 6 – 7 tables total. We ordered drinks, and the waiter initially got both our drinks wrong. He thought I said raspberry martini, I said mint chocolate. He brought my boyfriend a coke when he asked for a sprite. We both got filets, his with the garlic topping which he had to scrape off because it was overpowering. They were cooked well, but honestly we’ve had better quality at Outback. My drink I could only have a few sips of because it was so strong. Martini glass wasn’t even that big and it cost $ 12! Not impressed. Definitely won’t go back.

I love this place! It’s not your commercial steak house next to a strip mall. It’s a family owned establishment with charm. They walk out a sheet filled with raw steaks to explain the different cuts. You then choose your type and even weight! That’s right. «I’d like a 40oz ribeye.» Like that! I started coming here when I worked near by and would stop after work for a French onion soup and martini at the bar. It has now escalated to being our go to special occasion spot. Love it!

I have been to Select Cut numerous times and have left pretty happy for the most part. Unfortunately that feeling has changed after my last visit. We made a reservation for Fathers Day dinner thru OpenTable and called ahead telling the host we needed a high chair for our baby. What could go wrong, right? We arrived to find out the restaurant did not have any high chairs available. The 3 high chairs that they had where being used and the people had just sat down so no high chairs would be available anytime soon. OK seriously only 3 high chairs!!! I have more Highchairs at my house and I only have one kid. Out of curiosity after this happened I asked a few other similar sized restaurants in the area how many high chairs they had and they all had 10 high chairs plus additional booster seats. Yes only 3 high chairs in the Lincoln Park Lakeview area land of the stroller. We asked for a booster seat NONE. We tried to see if our 17 month old might be calm sitting on our lap needless to say that was like holding on to a slippery noodle. Looks like we are off to find somewhere else to dine that has a high chair for us is reasonably good and we can sit with no reservation on Fathers Day. We ate at The Edge a diner around the corner not the atmosphere I wanted but Select Cut put us in a awkward situation. Happily the food at The Edge was good. They had a Fathers Day special rib eye steak with shrimp and a free beers for dads let me say that again free beer for dads. Now that’s a restaurant that knows what they are doing. Bonus points for the best restaurant high chair ever straps the kid in so good I bet Houdini could not escape. So the fact The Select Cut didn’t have a reasonable number of high chairs bugged me, but here is my real issue. I called and asked to talk to the manager or owner wanting to bring the problem to their attention hoping they could fix it. Well the women who answered said she was the manager so I told her the above story. I also told her we had people drive in from the far west burbs to celebrate with us, one who had some mobility issues and it was a big deal just getting in the restaurant. I also shared that we lived in the area and have dined there more then a few times before(valuable info to the restaurant I thought). But the manager seemed really only interested in checking to see who was to blame about the high chair and if we actually requested a high chair. No concern for us being left high and dry on Fathers day or people driving in and being let down or our family member who had the mobility issue. Not a big deal we lived close by and where potential regulars who have dined there before. She seemed to apologies only as a way to get off the phone faster and said we hope you give us another chance. She did not however give me any reason to believe she would fix the problem so I would feel good about coming back. She said she would look into getting more high chairs but only look into it I guess, why not just say hey we will buy more so this won’t happen again. A few extra high chairs would of already paid for themselves. When I asked if she wanted my phone number she said why. Why really ??? Well wasn’t that a text book display of great customer service, NOT! Hahaha why she asked??? Maybe to follow up on the high chair issue you wanted to look into maybe to tell me they bought more high chairs and let the upset customer know so they would like to come back. This is the time a good restaurant with a well trained staff in customer service could turn a negative into a positive but Select Cut did just the opposite. It does not really mater why we where left standing up in a game of high seat musical chairs just let me know the problem was fixed so I feel comfortable coming back. This was not done and in fact it was just the opposite.

Worst service ever. After buying a groupon, my husband and myself decided to try it out. Worst dinner we’ve had in a long time. I ordered a bowl of potato soup, which came with a lovely garnish, a black piece of hair :) when I told the waiter he literally said, «oh ok, do you want another one?» Seriously?! How about no. Got some seafood stuffed mushrooms, my husband and I split one and it tasted like old tuna, but this had a lovely garnish as well, some brown goop(see picture). We wouldn’t even finish one of the 6 mushrooms and the waiter didn’t even bother to ask if we liked it when we asked him to take the plate away. We ordered crushed garlic with out ny strip and rib eye because the waiter said it was fresh garlic that would be cooked. Not quite, it tasted like it was brined in vinegar. Steaks were sub par to say the least and definitely not worth even the price of the groupon. The owner/manager didn’t even come to apologize for the hair in my soup, in fact we had to call him over to the table and he said«I don’t know where that came from our cook has white hair» as if it was my fault there’s a freakin hair in my soup. No apology from him either. After such a bad experience we couldn’t even finish half of our steaks. Asked for the check and the waiter was surprised we didn’t want desert. He told us not to worry and that he would give us a discount off our check because of the hair. Want to know the discount? We didn’t have to pay for the soup! How great is that? Never will I return to this dump hole, ever again.

Served me my steak with A1 sauce. Never s good sign. We thought we were in for a really nice steak dinner. We were wrong. Avg at best. Nothing stood out at this place unfortunately and I wouldn’t recommend it. When we were there the place was empty. It’s really sad bc we went here because of the good reviews. Maybe we were just there on an off night.

All I can say is .the food was incredible! I ordered a Select cut Chicken dinner. It was served with mushrooms, sauce, special rice, broccoli and carrots. The sauce with mushrooms was flavorful, tasty and savory. So happy I changed my order and got the full size. Alot of food… for later of course. My boyfriend, a complete steak eater, ordered a combination. He asked for the filet mignon and boneless chicken breast(surprised me) with veggies and a baked potato. He raved about how tender and perfectly cooked the meat was prepared. Hes a medium well type of man. The portion of meat was about 7 — 10 oz. Needless to say but he cleared his plated, not cleaned but cleared. My boyfriend was so impressed he ordered a steak burger before we left. The waiter was nice and funny. Completely polite. We sat in the smaller portion of the establishment. For majority of the dining experience, we were alone. As if I had bought out the place for the hour. Very nice. The food came out rather quickly and was a wonderful temperature. I absolutely recommend this place. I have no cons about it. Parking was easy at 4:30 pm. They accept reservations and have a Groupon special which I took advantage of. Give this place a try!

This is a go-to place for my parents on their birthdays because the steaks are great, large and reasonably priced. The ambiance is casual and the service is good. Overall, a great option for a high quality steakhouse, without paying ridiculous prices. They have a nice, but limited wine list, but all the options for wine are reasonably priced, adding to the experience.

Most restaurants are overrated this once is under rated. The quality is exceptional every time. Delivery prompt and without errors. Meat quality, leanness of the cut and the cook is spot on. My company bosses from NY and Florida make it a must stop when visiting. The ribs and shrimp combo I dream about. Great French onion. I stopped in once and next to me was Emmy award winning local news journalist Carol Marin talking on a first name basis with the owner, a regular at the restaurant. Nough said

This place has good burgers But the staff is ROUDE. NOMANNERS FORTHIS: SOCALLEDHIGHENDRESTAURANT. within 3mins the host had pisst me off so bad I jump in my brand New BMW To the fact that I had found parking right in front of the door. Walked in hungry n ready to eat But I was frowned by some old grumpy looking latino As I begin to place my order. All he can focus on was my car??? Wtf dude. I parked legal n paid the Metter. He says to me for me to move my car in about 15mins. He needs the open space for his wait staff to do deliverys. I thought he was joking for me to oder my food then to ge up to find another spot caus he wanted it open $&#*$\\&& Never have I been so ticked OFF. OFENDEDANDPEEVEDINLESSYHEN3MINS. I SPENT a wonderful night at Sopranos And had me a stake worth my $$$ Service was an all star5 they know how to treat thier guest… but thats not the taste left in my mouth by the horrible wait staff at select cuts… Never again will they have to worrie about getting me for my money… I know how to spend it well. Incredible casual steakhouse in Lakeview? Really? I’ve known this restaurant has been in Lakeview for decades on Halsted and Diversey but never tried this place for some odd reason. The restaurant is very conveniently near public transportation. I had arrived shortly after 5:00pm so there were plenty of tables still available. I was great by the manager or owner who was full of energy. I had opted to sit at a table for two instead of a four top. The restaurant has the atmosphere of a fine dining but very casual place. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed the white tablecloths with green napkins folded just right. The tables were evenly spaced without being on top of each other. The bar had limited seating but it looked cozy. After reviewing the menu, which had a little bit of everything including combo options, I had opted to have ½ ribs and chicken breast with fries. I thought having a baked potato would be to filling. The appetizers looked good but I had reframed. While I was waiting for my entrée, the owner or manager was still engaging with the patrons without being intrusive. Really engaging experience. The food runner had brought my meal and wanted to know if I need anything else, which I didn’t. WOW. The chicken breast with rosemary and garlic was juicy, the sauce from the ribs were tangy, the veggies were crispy the steak fries were seasoned just right. No complaints here. Service was great. I wish I could remember the servicer’s name. I just couldn’t eat another bite even though I did browse through the dessert menu. I would recommend this neighborhood steakhouse. Looking forward to my return visit.

This experience here is alright and good place to go for a steak in the lakeview area, I guess. It wasn’t anything spectacular, but I was well-satisfied and that’s good enough for a Tuesday night Groupon meal. I’ve also had their steak sandwich via Harrigan’s next door, and enjoyed it as well. Once you’re seated, the server brings out the various cuts of meat and describes the type of meat and size options. I suppose it’s nice to be able to select your own cut of meat though I don’t know if I would have ever asked for a 9 oz filet as opposed to the standard 8 oz. Would I know if I was exactly 1 oz hungrier than usual? It was weird to look at the raw meat wrapped in cellophane and have the waiter touching it making finger indents in the flesh. Kind of unappetizing. I liked having the option to crust the meat and I chose a garlicky crust on mine. You could also top your baked potato with cheese and bacon. The sides were fine– not too hard to mess up simple cooked vegetables and a potato. The desserts were also brought out wrapped and described in front of us with some fingering going on, but we were too full from the meat to even be tempted. I don’t live in this area anymore and I just wasn’t impressed enough to come back.
