Old Temple

Stumbled across this store the other day by accident. Having made a few trips across the pond to Asia myself i was curious to see if what they had was indeed authentic and of quality. I was also curious about the prices. Put the word artifact in front of anything and it instantly registers as $$$$ especially in the downtown Chicago area. However I was pleased to find the prices extremely reasonable considering what it takes to get these goods here.
Upon walking in you are immediately led down a flight of stairs which is decorated heavily with the various goods from all parts of Asia. I knew right away this was going to be a treat. I continued down the corridor and finally made my way to the showroom where I was overwhelmed with the display and inventory (in a good way). I’ve been all over Thailand (Issan, Central and South) twice, gone to Cambodia, Philippines and Bali as well. This is all of the stuff i was hoping to find there and bring back with me without having to deal with shipping, customs, boats or anything else. I am so happy to know a place like this exists in my own backyard.
I spent about an hour just perusing the showroom and talking with David, one of the owners, about how they source, the origins, and the stories behind the pieces. I bought a trunk and a new short table with a small drawer which now functions as the base for my Buddha shrine.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for the real deal and an alternative to commercially available items from neighboring merchants. Just go look. You’ll be amazed at what you see.

This is a beautiful store filled with artifacts from Indonesia, China, Thailand and other countries. If you are looking for authentic Asian furniture, art work for your space or small accessories, definitely stop by here! The owner is very nice and easy to chat with as well! I can’t wait to return to buy a small buddha.
