This is a neighborhood staple. Really solid menu with some of the best food you’ll find in Rogers Park. They always have good beer on tap and good drink specials. It’s a casual place; although I don’t love the sports bar vibe, I understand why that makes money. The loud, half-crowded ambience not the most ideal spot for an intimate dinner, however the tunes are usually really decent. I’ve never had a problem getting a table or prompt service; the small staff is talented, especially the chefs. This pub has something for everybody and I hope they never change.

A fantastic time with good music and amazing atmosphere. I lived up the street for 2 years and loved coming home to a lively neighborhood spot like this!

Been here a few times. Like that it is close to home, low key & usually decent food. Went the other day and it was ALL bad. It’s been about 6 months since I’ve been here, so don’t know if they changed the kitchen staff. Everything we had, had something wrong. Chicken wings were good, but the celery was slimy and brown. Smoked cheese sticks were so greasy you could see the grease drip out of them. My burger was just dripping with grease from the fried peppers, had a little slimy limp pickle on the side and one tiny brown piece of limp lettuce on the side. Pizza crust was soggy. Fries were soggy & greasy. Felt gross & sick when I left. Service was ok, had to keep asking for more water, then he would only fill one glass? Why not fill everyone? Seriously considering not going back it was that bad. Have had good food here before, but just feel sick & gross after leaving last night.

Came in and sat at the bar. The bartender say hi and I will be right back. After 10 minutes of people are me receiving food and NOONE came back to me to ask me what I would want… I left.

Great place! Went here after getting into Chicago. It’s a great neighborhood bar with a solid menu for late night and dinner. I got a German brew and then the pomegranate Paloma which was perfect. We also tried the smoked Gouda bites which were amazing. You can’t go wrong with cheese… so delicious. The dipping sauce was cheddar and yes it was a lot of cheese but it was perfect. Great atmosphere and our server was so much fun! I’d love to go back here and try their coal fired pizza.

I love this place. And what’s fantastic about it is that it’s across the street from my apartment. Why do I like this place so much?! 1) The Girls Night Out menu. The fact that it’s a whole menu along was wonderful. 2) The jukebox. I’m such a sucker for these things it’s really unbelievable… 3) The Juicy Lucy. Mostly cause I love things that rhyme like a word game junky… 4) It is literally across the street. If that isn’t lazy pride then I don’t know what else is. They have a great selection of gluten free beverages and menu as well which is always a plus in my book.

Tried this place out on a Friday night. Wasn’t too busy; friendly atmosphere and staff. The reason for the three stars is that I ordered a Bloody Mary and it was bitter and strange tasting. It’s hard to mess up a Bloody Mary, in my opinion, unless you water it down, which is what happened here. I tried another two cocktails and they were both weak. Had the cheeseburger and it was about average. Overall, not a negative experience, and I’ll make it back if I’m in the area, but it’s not a place I’d go out of my way to go to.

I love this place. The food is good and they have specials like build your own mac-n-cheese and burgers that are hard to pass up. What makes this place awesome is the staff. Owner Renee is usually there bar tending and/or working the crowd. The bartenders know how to shake a good martini and pretty much anything else. If I feel the need for a drink this is my go-to place and its right at the Jarvis Red Line stop!

I would give this place 4 stars if it weren’t for the terrible service we received… We had a group of 8 come in for dinner at 8:30pm on a Monday night. There were 2 bartenders and 1 server. The server was the worst… we were there until maybe 11 and he rarely attended to us to ask if we wanted more drinks… each guy probably only had 3 drinks but would have had much more had the server been more timely. I think the bartenders were just as lazy though. We were like their only customers… and why wouldn’t they want the extra $$$??? Anyway… I got the Mr. Cheezy Pizza(Brie, goat cheese, parmesan and bleu). HOLYCOW it was DELICIOUS. Omg I want to eat it right now!!! The brie and goat cheese made it absolutely amazing! My hubby got the Hot Chick Burger. He said it was good! It was a good amount of spicy! He said the banana pepper rings were good too. Overall, food was awesome! But service brought the rating down substantially…

I am a frequent visitor to R Public House. The atmosphere is good. The food is always delicious. Get there on a Monday night for the amazing Meatloaf! The bartenders make the cocktails strong, just like I like them. They are also very friendly. Go there on a beautiful day, and sit outside on the patio! Great spot for people watching, and seeing all the cute guys walk their pups down Jarvis!

The Monday night meat loaf was fantastic! Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans with garlic butter, OMG. And a Lagunitas IPA to top it off.

I am long overdue in writing this review as I have been going to this place from shortly after it opened. A year and change ago, I was looking for a cold beer after unpacking in my new apartment. I happened into this bar and was warmly met by the staff and enjoyed not only a nice beer, but also a pizza. It’s one thing to have good food and a decent beer selection, but it takes it to the next level when the staff are all pleasant and friendly. It would be easy for them to sit back and let people come in and hang out and then just simply serve food and drinks, but that’s not the environment there. The staff are very kind, welcoming, and full of smiles. The menu is not expansive, yet has something that will hit the spot for most people. There’s also the big plus that there is a late night menu so that you can enjoy a snack as the night goes on. The crowd that frequents are usually good natured and the noise level is moderate. I have brought a lot of friends here and they all love it. I foresee myself frequenting there for as long as I live in the area.

This is a nice spot, with good beers on tap and a pretty interesting menu. You’ll find something for everyone on the menu here. I’d rate it higher as it is a 3 start kind of place, but they served up their signature«Juicy Lucy» burger to me hard as a friggin rock, with no cheese inside, just an empty cavity surrounded by a hard cooked meat shell. I showed the server, he said«oh gosh I’ve never seen that before»… and brought me a cup of cheesey stuff to slather on it because it would have taken too long to re-do it. In the end, the burger sucked, but I was fed I guess. And with a group of pals. So I paid them and left, but didn’t feel great about it.

I like R Public House. The food was great, especially the fries. OMG. I had chicken wings in buffalo sauce and they were some of the best wings I’ve had in a loooooong time. They have a full bar, but I kept to the Miller Lite they have on tap. For $ 8, I could upgrade to the«big girl mug»(which I could barely pick up, but I managed haha). The lighting was nice, dim, but plentiful. The only complaints I have is that I wish our server would have come around a little more and it would have been nice to actually hear the music that was playing. All in all, this is a great spot!

Sorry, R Public House, but I just can’t give you my business anymore. Your food is good. Your drinks are good. Your general atmosphere is good. Your service, however, has never been that good and has recently been terrible. My last three visits to your establishment have been truly awful. Sorry, but three strikes is all you get. First, there was the time that I was dining alone and decided to go ahead and sit at the bar, where I was treated to the joy of being completely ignored. I just wanted a beer and a sandwich, but that was apparently too much to ask. The bartender never acknowledged my presence. I was finally able to flag him down, at which point he silently dropped a menu in front of me and then walked away to ignore me again. Everyone else was apparently a regular and was greeted and promptly served and enjoyed some friendly banter, while I sat wondering what was wrong with me. I guess I don’t count because I’m not recognized as a regular. I finally got up and left without ever being served. Thanks for nothing. Then, there was the time I was with a small group. We all placed our orders. Drinks came quickly, but several of them were wrong, and somehow my drink was forgotten. Our food took forever, and again several people were served the wrong dishes and my food was forgotten. Our waitress tried to argue with us when we pointed out the mistakes, insisting that everything was right and if we had changed our minds about what we wanted then we should have said something before she brought the food out. Even though I asked about my missing order twice, it never came, so I ended up eating fries off of one of my friend’s plates. Even though I never got my food, my order was included on our bill, which led to more argument with our waitress, who insisted that she had served me my missing meal. My most recent visit was no exception. Some friends and I arrived, sat, perused the menu, and ordered. I had limited time to hang out and eat, so I only ordered an appetizer, thinking it wouldn’t take as long as an actual entrée. Once we order, we waited. Then we waited some more. And waited. Finally, our drinks arrived. But where was our food? So we waited again. And waited some more. We watched the tables around us being served. We continued to wait. Finally, one of our group flagged down our waitress to ask about our orders. Apparently, she had never actually put them in. There was no apology of any kind. Finally, our food arrived over an hour after we had ordered. Sadly, it arrived just as I was leaving, so I never actually got to eat anything. I have friends who love R Public House and insist that it is awesome in every way, but I have never experienced that myself. Is there something wrong with me? Am I such a terrible person that they can’t bring themselves to serve me? I wish I knew what it was, but I guess it doesn’t matter when I won’t ever try to eat there again.

Dinner with my Son Brian! Cool Place! Gotta say, I am loving my new neighborhood! Because I am discovering some truly great, new places, such as R Public House. Located on Jarvis, across from the Jarvis Red Line Stop you will find this gem of a place, and. it’s not a hidden gem by any means because it seems to have a crowd of regulars, but it’s definitely a gem! What impressed me and made me the most comfortable as I entered this establishment was the diversity of this crowd, yes, there may have been a few hipsters in the house but there were also folks my age relaxing and having a great time! The interior of R’s Public House is most welcoming and comfortable, a really beautiful bar area and some high back tables, and I counted like 4 T.V.‘s, each with a different channel for our viewing pleasure, Nice! The jukebox was playing great old school tunes and I had to laugh when the Osmond Brothers One Bad Apple came on and the crowd started singing along to Donny Osmond’s high pitched OHHHH. hilarious! And, yes, this crowd knew the words to One Bad Apple, Circa the 70’s. Ahhhh… The sound level was also comfortable enough for me to carry on a conversation with my 2 dining companions, so rare these days! Now, I must admit, I ordered a Miller Lite Double, just because and some really delicious hot, chewy pretzel bites and one of the best bacon cheeseburgers I have ever had, so perfect! R’s Public House also has a Pizza Bar where they will design your own pizza and they have great daily specials as well! This place is pretty incredible in every aspect and I can’t wait to return and this barely happens with me but R’s Public House has all the right stuff! And, I’m sure that’s what keeps people coming back for more. A great neighborhood bar/restaurant with a great vibe, happy people, a really cool server named Joe, delicious food and a pretty extensive beer list. What more could you want? As far as I’m concerned R’s Public House has all their bases covered. And, that is a truly great thing…
