I bought some treats from their Andersonville galleria shop and also ordered some online to be shipped to family. Everyone loved the treats! We ordered everything on their product list, literally. And it was all good.

Bacon Bourbon Caramel Corn is an edgy combination of smoky thick-cut bacon and popcorn made the old-fashioned way, decadently finished with handmade rich bourbon caramel. I can see why people go wild over this. Don’t think of bacon in slices that you have for breakfast, but as a salty, smoky ingredient to add popcorn instead of just salt. When the bacon meets the caramel, it’s like a symphony. They are definitely made for each other. You’ll definitely realize it too when you get to the bottom of the bag. These babies are addictive! I don’t know how Ginna makes her caramel, but you’ll definitely have an OMG moment or two with this. We’ll talk more about this later on in the article. Thumbs up, way up! Smoked Pecan Bourbon Caramel Corn was intended to be the vegetarian version of the Bacon Bourbon Caramel Corn, but has been popular with everyone. The smoked pecans are a wonderful way to enjoy the smoky flavor with the caramel corn. It’s more sweet than savory, but you’ll find yourself in the same predicament, an empty bag and thoughts that you should have ordered the larger bag. Thumbs up! Salted Bourbon Caramels made with Heritage Prairie Farm’s handmade honey as a starting point and finishes with flaked sea salt and unexpected bourbon addition. First off, Ginna is a caramel goddess! This caramel is the best I have ever had! Growing up with Brach’s in those small cubes can’t compare to what these taste like. When you unwrap the caramel, you can feel the caramel softening just from the warm of your hand. It has a sensual texture when it hits your tongue and the creaminess of the caramel envelopes your taste buds. It’s absolutely mind-blowing! You’ll definitely have an OMG moment or two or three! The bourbon flavor is very subtle and helps tone down the stickiness that you normally have in caramels. Thumbs up, way up!

I visited Salted Caramel as a pop-up spot at Espresso Thy Art on Damen Ave. The general concept is sweet + savory flavors. I had a watermelon coriander italian ice and my friend had a sundae. I also bought some candy for my boyfriend, because it was one of the few vegan items they had that I could take home. Flavors were delicious but as with other artisanal hand-crafted foods, it was a bit on the the pricey side. It also took me a moment to figure out their old-timey circus aesthetic. Will be curious to see what they cook up next.

Ok, all you foodies, get ready for Bacon Bourbon Caramel Corn. Salted Caramel is the company, and BBCC is the product. What a crazy taste sensation. Their motto is «Where Sweet Meets Savory», and that’s exactly it. I always taste the sweet first, then get a bit of bacon and the party’s on. It’s made from scratch by the owner of Salted Caramel, Ginna, a local chef who(lucky for us) also teaches. If you want to try an out-of-this-world snack, and support a great local company, get thee to the site or one of the locations they sell it at(I know they’ve got it at Flavour Cooking School in Forest Park and Birchwood Kitchen). Thank goodness for Superbowl 2007.
