Good food, good prices, portions not outlandishly huge. Too bad they’re closed; it always seemed like half of the neighborhood was there.

Pretty well known establishment in the mount greenwood neighborhood, it’s pretty old, at least 50 years, it’s a quality burger place, good cheeseburger and fries

I would recommend this place. Its very simple menu, very inexpensive and over all just nice little local business to support. Dumpling soup you have to get and of course the classic curly fries always good with the wonderburgers.

Wonder full. This place is similar to a place that went out of business in 1979 on stony island ave. That place was called super burger and the guy that opened up this place worked there first. I have not found ANYPLACE that uses red hamburger relish and that whats makes this place stand out. That and the fact that even a hamburger here comes with ½ a slice of cheese!

I remember passing by this place forever and always wanting to check it out. I guess I always forgot about it though. I made it a point to get over here the other weekend and I’m glad I did. Parking was a bit of a pain on a Saturday but that’s typical in the area. I must not have read all the reviews because I was expecting more of a fast food setup. It’s a really cute diner with table service(they even serve beer). I ordered my carryout from the counter and it was ready quickly. All of the staff was really friendly. We had cheeseburgers and curly fries. I thought it was great for what it was. The lettuce sucked though. I had to pick it off. I grabbed a few mini corn dogs as well. They were alright. My favorite was the curly fries. I typically don’t even like them but these were perfect! If I have a craving for a greasy diner this will definitely be a spot on my radar now. I really want to try a malt next time. I noticed they have daily specials and homemade soups as well.

This place has been around for nearly 60 years, how does it only have 17 reviews? Okay, it’s not sleek and hip, there are no pretzel rolls or artisan cheese or truffle fries. This place is Old. School. It’s like a little diner but for burgers and jazz, no breakfast. Pretty sure they have beer, but no craft nothin’. It’s smallish, with a diner counter and some bare-bones tables(salt, pepper, sugar, mustard, ketchup) and various local artwork and kids’ drawings on the wall. I came in to grab us some takeout on a Friday. It’s more of an eat-in joint but they didn’t seem the least bit fazed, either. The waitress was very friendly and I saw her checking in on regulars. I got us a Wonderburger(no lettuce), a patty melt(grilled, not raw onions) and two orders of curly fries. Now, when I saw«curly fries» I was thinking those orangey things you usually see but these were real potatoes that just happened to be spiral-cut. In about 10 minutes my order was ready, hot and fresh. It smelled so good in the car I could hardly stand it, but I managed to drive back to my husband’s work to eat. Greasy and delicious. Two kinds of cheese on the patty melt. Well-cooked onions, just-right fries. Just what you want from an old-school burger joint. Note: I parked in the 7 – 11 lot next door. There were no signs saying I couldn’t. But I cannot guarantee that this is A-OK and you may want to choose a street spot instead.

Good neighborhood place for a burger when on the South side. Fries can be hit or miss but the double bacon cheeseburger is pretty much on point every time I go there plus you can grab a brew while you wolf down your burger.

Overall I would have to say I like the Wonderburger but it is far from being one of the best. I appreciate the tradition of a old school neighborhood joint so at least it shows something for a place that can stay in business fire so long. The place in small and very divey. It send like its always high school kids taking the orders and working the grill. The burgers are very good not to small but bit to big, juicy and come wrapped in paper just like the old days. But the fries always seem to disappoint me. Compared to the other burgers you can get in the area I would choose Wonderburger every time, but they are far from the best.

Cruel fate(ok, the closing of Richie’s) brought me here, but in spite of its lack of fance, Wonderburger got the job done. I liked the little house that encased the grill. I like little houses of all types. Lack of vegetarian options led my companion to the fried appetizer basket, but it was a veritable horn of plenty, but with more cholesterol. I enjoyed the lightness of the curly fries, though they could have used a bit more salt. French dip was good, solid, and the au jus was flavorful. That’s the test for me. Service is high school gals, but they weren’t surly. You know how these teens can get. I kid. We were in and out in under an hour. They take credit cards, the food is solid and cheap, and there’s local art to entertain the eyes and the sense of humor.

I don’t think you could hate yourself for eating here. This is not a destination place and maybe I will return and try something other than a Wonderburger and fries. Really 2 ¼ stars. The fries which receive so much acclaim are below average. Sure they were one of the first joints with curly fries but what I witnessed was more slack ass attention to detail and an utter failure of execution. We sat at the bar, it was twenty five minutes before close. It was obvious that we would either be the last or next to last customers. I looked over at the young man at the helm, he had two baskets of fries already cooked. Next to these baskets was a bin of blanched fries, about thirty orders just«resting». We ordered two wonderburgr’s and fries, to my surprise I watched the gentleman drop some fresh fries down and I got that warm and fuzzy feeling about some crispy greasy in a good way carbs. When the food arrived the burger were wrapped neatly in paper, very thin burgers and cooked crispy. I found the meat to be bland, american cheese annoys the hell out of me and I wished I had read the menu closer. Grilled onions were not cooked enough. The fries, well what can I say, those aforementioned freshly dropped spuds were pulled from the oil and left to die in the basket. We were served the old fries, quickly reheated in the oil and unsalted. They were really bad. There are many many many places to get a burger, this is not one of them. I mentioned going back to try something else but the descriptions were lacking, «Kosher Corned beef on Rye with pickle spear»? «Roast Beef with sour cream and pickle spear»? The place was very dingy and dirty, quite neglected I felt. The great irony was the waitress scrubbing the shake machine with a toothbrush, all the while I was staring at a big hair hanging off a greasy door right in front of me. It pains me to slam these old school family run places, I hope they read the reviews and think about how hard it is to get new business, a dirty average place is hard to return to.

Oh yeah, this place is the goods. A renown place near the«Ever Greenwood» area. Yes I really just combined Evergreen Park and Mount Greenwood. Where’s my Nobel Prize? Being my first experience here, I had to try a burger, just to see how wonderous it is. I opted for the double wonderburger basket. But first, we ordered chili, which to my surprise was outstanding. We also ordered«crunch puppies», which are like hush puppies, but with mini hot dogs inside. Pretty simple, yet delicious! The burger with fries were also really good. I ordered my double burger with grilled onions. It’s not a mamoth sized burger that you’d get from Top Notch, but also not puny. It’s presented nicely wrapped in wax paper, along side the crunchy curly fries. Yummeh! After hanging out in this area for 3 – 4 years now, I can’t tell you why it’s taken me so long to finally come here. But I will be making up for lost time!

They definitely do a nice burger and fries. The meat is juicy and the total package is hot, but the standout is the relishy stuff that they put on there that is the difference between their«regular» burgers and their«Wonder“burgers — it’s almost like a giardiniera, but with tomatoes and not spicy and kinda sweet instead. Very interesting and tasty. The fries are good too, but also a little different — kinda curly, but soft and not really crunchy or very crispy. Well flavored. This place would probably be a pretty solid third for me in a far south side burger death match, with Hand-Burgers coming in first and Top Notch a number two.

Wonder-rific. It’s terrific. Double Wonderburger w/bacon. Nice. Cheesy side sauce for curly fries really a great touch. Even better. The strawberry shake. Nice, friendly enough warm spot on a wintry wonderland day. As burger & fries joints go, this is a neighborhood place that doesn’t mind if you’re an outsider with an appetite.
