A really nice hotel. The rooms were large and clean considering the size of the hotel. The homemade breakfast was amazing. Definitely would stay here again.

The smallest room I’ve ever stayed in. The noise from the freeway is noticeable. The continental breakfast was a joke, stale muffins and Tampico. Disappointed but for $ 53 bucks a night, I shouldn’t have expected much.

Certain housekeeping personnel does a good job while others do a lazy half assed job… as evidenced by the men’s underwear found under the bed skirt in our Suite # 125 and the hair in the bath room. Someone should inspect rooms AFTER housekeeping to verify. The other hotel at this exit is not good(read Colfax Inn) so this is your only choice, and generally it’s a good one. It’s a newer property but starting to show signs of wear. I don’t know if it’s cheap materials to build it or just rough guests. It’s a decent value however given the chooce… I would have selected lodging in Des Moines at a $ 90+ price point, but the arrangements were made by another family member and out of my control. So… Verify proper room turn over by house keeping and you have yourselves a decent property in its price range. Besides finding the underwear under the bed and the pillows needing improvement… we enjoyed our stay. About the«other» hotel across the way. .read the reviews… and heed them. It only looks nice on the outside from new siding. You’ve been warned.

This is a newer property and is the best in the area. We have stayed here for several years during our summer visits north and it has been just fine for us. Located behind McDonalds and near a great pizza place a couple miles south in town.

Worst customer service ever. Do not do business with this company. You cost them three dollars per night and they only think of you as profit not as a customer.

Excellent hotel. Looks almost new. Fast internet, although it occasionally had some connection issues. Breakfast was simply ok.

For weeks I knew that I had to go to central Iowa on a business trip, but yet I made no plans. So, the night before I was supposed to travel I sat in front of the computer in dismay that every hotel in the area that I knew and loved was full. If I didn’t want to stay someplace I knew to be in an «iffy» area of Des Moines, I was going to have to find something outside of the city. In short, I was going to have to take what I got. So, needless to say, I wasn’t expecting anything other than a bed when I pulled into the Microtel parking lot near Colfax. The thing is: I got so incredibly lucky. The staff was great, despite the fact that my online reservation hadn’t come through. Although there was little character as far as landscaping and so-forth goes on the outside(not counting the corn field around the property, of course), the inside was fresh, clean and nicely appointed. The room was small, probably even smaller than most inexpensive hotels I’ve stayed in, but none of the available space went to waste. The bed — soft, fresh and exceptionally comfortable — took up the majority of the space. There were two wall-mounted box-type side tables on either side. A medium-sized wardrobe flanked a wall-mounted desk opposite the bed, and the television sat atop the wardrobe. My favorite thing about the room, however, was the window seat that was long enough for reclining while watching television or talking on the phone. Surprisingly enough, despite the small size of the room itself, the bathroom was more than large enough — and filled with soft towels and personal care products that would rival most of the three and four star hotels I’ve visited.
