Have only been here once for lunch but it was great. They have a large variety of items on the lunch menu for a reasonable price. Much better quality than you can get elsewhere for not much more money. If you haven’t had lunch here I would recommend it. Now we just need to stop by for dinner soon…

This is my mother and nana’s favorite restaurant to go to when they come visit me! Everything is fresh and local, making every dish delicious. I’ve always ordered the BBQ Pork because it’s the closest tasting thing that reminds me of the BBQ I get back home in TX! Also the Parmesan fries are a must for a love of anything fried with cheese!

I went because a chef friend wanted to go and I owed her a meal. Have to say I was generally let down. In particular I didn’t care for the way the trout bellies or collards were cooked. Service was good, if a bit forced, at times. Probably will not return.

I’d probably go with 2.5 stars if I had the choice. I don’t know any of the staff or owners so this isn’t a partial review where we know everyone’s names from frequent visits. We’ve lived in Columbia for 20 years and there are much better places to spend your money in my opinion. We had a birthday party, table of 9 with a reservation. Heather the waitress was great and attentive, we were very happy with her. The food was hit and miss. The duck was good, braised short ribs were very salty, scallops were salty, risotto lacked everything and steak was fine but nothing like the local CC’s City Broiler. Our bill with the mandatory 20% gratuity of tables of 5 or more came to $ 480 including wine. We asked to end our dinner with a homemade birthday cake we brought in and they wanted to charge us $ 2.50 per slice of cake, not per person which after a $ 500 evening was ridiculous. We walked a few steps down the street to Teller’s Restaurant and they let us eat the cake for free. 4 bottles of champagne and numerous cocktails later, half our cake given to the Teller’s staff as a thank you we ended our celebration/evening much happier. I think the situation could have been handled much better given the patronage we showed the restaurant. I doubt we ever come back as a result.

I recommend this restaurant with a small caveat. The food was amazing — fresh, nice presentation and delicious. The service was also spot on. My only criticism about the entire experience was the lack of personality in the service staff. From the hostess to our server we barely received a smile and there were no words or gestures of welcome. In fairness, it was a busy night but a smile and bit of personality will go a long way in making a good impression better. Having said that, I’d go back for the scallops tomorrow if I didn’t live 3 hours away.

At sycamore I started with the Caesar salad and for dinner had the trout. I didn’t really enjoy the salad, it seemed overdressed and the dressing was more creamy than ‘Caesary’ if that makes any sense. The trout was very good and I would definitely recommend. They have some very nice beers on tap as well.

Great cozy, warm atmosphere and great food. The Special Salad was fantastic with the bacon and buttermilk dressing, although the medium-boiled egg on the side was odd. The pickled trout bellies were a great way to start the meal. They were smoky, a little briny, and not too fishy. The beer-braised short ribs were the star of the night — tender and melt-in-your-mouth. The wine list was decent, and our server received two thumbs up.

This was probably one of the best meals I have ever enjoyed! I had the past a special for the night and my husband had the ribs. I also ordered the potato soup and it was by far the best soup I have ever eaten! We really enjoyed our waiter and the atmosphere was quiet, calm, and private during the time of day we dined. My husband and I enjoyed celebrating our 2nd year anniversary at Sycamore!

Pretty good food, but service left something to be desired only because they didn’t bring my daughter’s lunch out with the rest of ours. Some(but not all) of us were trying to be polite by not starting until they brought hers out. It look so long my salad was getting warm! I let the waiter know too. Not much contrition. Note to waitstaff: Don’t bring everyone else’s meal out until EVERYONE’S meal is ready!

Well no, I definitely cannot recommend this restaurant. Maybe they were not really ready for us at 5 pm. Food was served on cold dinner plates causing the bed of creamed potatoes to be awful. My salad arrived without any dressing at all(?). It was supposed to be Blue Cheese. When the server brought it on the side, it arrived as Ranch. The staff was not prepared for customers at 5 pm. They were still in pre-open horseplay mode, loud and unruly. Nice that they are a happy bunch of employees, but they should put on professional behavior when customers arrive. I will not be back.

Just had lunch at Sycamore, very nice experience. Nice selection of wines by the glass, perfect for the noon meal. My husband has the gazpacho which was fresh and flavorful, he enjoyed. We split an appetizer of fried yellow tomato, again very good. As main course I had Beet salad, he had patchwork pork sandwich. Both were terrific. We split a crème brûlée for dessert, fabulous caramalized sugar topping. Looking forward to going there for dinner some night since lunch was really good.

My initial impression of Sycamore was a positive one. The place looked very nice, with attractive décor and lighting, and it was very clean. My date and I were promptly shown to a table. That’s where the good service ended. In spite of the place being nearly empty – three tables including ours – we sat there for ten minutes before someone came to take our order. We ordered salads, she the spinach and I the arugula. That took another ten minutes. They came out along with our bread. Why wasn’t the bread brought earlier? The salads were quite good. The vinaigrette on both of them was perfect. Mine was topped with pickled shiitakes and parmesan. Hers had croutons, red onions, and pancetta. The servings were on the small side for a $ 9 salad(side salad size), but we enjoyed them. After waiting 20 minutes for salad and bread, however, we’d had enough. We got the check and left, off to a different restaurant, hopefully with better service. That’s a shame, as the entrées sounded quite good. In conclusion: The wait staff needs to catch up with the kitchen staff in delivering a good experience.

The food is well done and good. Priced accordingly, so it’s not cheap, but not too expensive either. I’ve had better in other cities, but this is the finest place I’ve been to in Columbia for sure. The dress is a bit lenient, so you could go in jeans or a sports coat and they will treat you the same. Either way, you will probably enjoy the meal. Great for dates and I heard their lunch is very good. I was impressed.

On a cross country trip and stopped here Jan 26, 2014. Great table bread served with sun dried tomato butter. Blue martini excellent with handmade blue cheese stuffed olives and Boodles Gin We got the beet salad which was yummy and the special salad with romaine, bacon and thinly sliced radishes, buttermilk dressing a perfectly warm soft soft boiled egg and croutons it reminded me of a variation of a deconstructed BLT with egg. Small plates: Pork belly sliders Fried Oysters with a heavenly lemon spiced dipping sauce. Parmasan fries with truffle oil Duck wings with a slaw and blue cheese chunks, Trout bellies with pickled red onions and a delicious cream horseradish sauce and toast crisps. I rarely get dessert but I had to try it at this place. A flour-less chocolate cake and mascarpone cheesecake with ginger snap crust… damn good. I would definitely return to this place if I was ever in the area again. Very professional service as well. A lovely culinary experience. Five stars for Columbia, MO

6 of us are visiting from FL and had a very nice meal here. We ordered the gnocchi which was excellent! The«special salad» was ok to me, not great. Entrees that we ordered were trout, pork belly sliders, short ribs and filet. Everyone raved about their meal. The table next to use had the scallops which looked great as well. Very nice meal. I would recommend the restaurant.

We were rather underwhelmed. Have no problem dropping some $$ on a decent meal but overall was feeling rather«meh» after this experience. Our bill was 80.00 — not bad but not exactly cheap. We’re happy we experienced Sycamore, and can cross it off our list, but we don’t think we will be back. There are so many restaurants in CoMo for us to try. I do want to say that service was great.
