Swensen’s Grill & Ice Cream

Review based on their ice cream sundae only:
My gf loves this place and has been telling me about it for a long time. As such, I was very excited to try their ice cream. I ordered a small sundae to go and ate it very quickly in our parked rental car (picture bulimic girl binging in after school special)…in my defense, we were in a rush. Verdict: it was fine… very average. I told my gf that I loved it, because this is one of her favorite places and I did not want to make her mad (or be accused of hating everything she loves).

One of the best spots ever for food or desert! I’ve been coming here for years and they never fail to amaze. Recently, about a year or so ago, they went through some major renovations of the place and the menu. They have a more sophisticated and tasty menu now with two whole pages of burgers, lots of new and improved sandwiches, salads and great appetizers. Their ice creams, Sundays and shakes are still amazing as always. Definitely recommend! Come hungry!

The food is awesome very fresh and flavorful reminds me of back home By city deli. I recommend to try a sandwich and just enjoy the awesome food.

Do not order the Nachos Explosion because you’re paying $ 13 for chips. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the waiter and he said he would tell the manager. The manager sent over a little bit of cheese in a small container. He never came over, no apology and did not offer to make it again the correct way. Waiter was very nice.

Nothing bothers me more than having 18 percent tip already included especially when the food arrives late, the service is just ok. Two adults two children and 88 dollars later i do not feel it was worth it. Will think twice next time.

Started the Mother’s Day weekend off early today. Decided to take in a movie at sunset and we stopped to have dinner here first.
Things have changed a little since the last time I had visited this place. The menu got a face lift and they now serve alcoholic beverages here. Not to worry, I snapped a photo of their selection for you guys to browse through in advance. This time I have my photos!!! :)
They’ve added a few more burgers to the menu, fish (I don’t think there was fish before), wings and all sorts of new appetizers. They have a Philly Cheese Steak too, I know at least one person who might like that! After making my way through what they had to offer, I settled on the Loaded Hot Dogs and I upgraded my fries to the truffle fries to see what all the hype was about with them.
Now, I know I might get some heat for this, bbuuuttttt… I really wasn’t feeling them. :/​There was just something about them that I didn’t like, really not sure. DON’T STONE ME!!! :P The hot dogs on the other hand, those were delicious! They came as a pair and they were in this HUGE bun smothered in chili… ooooohhhhh…mmmmmm…they were good. Very filling and I couldn’t even finish the second one.
But, I wasn’t full enough to not have dessert. It’s an ice cream parlor people, one must have ice cream there! :) I went for the Cookie and Mint Sundae, maybe I’m just completely biased towards mint ice cream but that baby really hit the spot. :P yum, yum, yum, yum, yum!!!
Although overall the food was good, the service not so much. Our waitress at first seemed pretty attentive but she suddenly disappeared and took a while to come back each time. If you don’t want to be dying of thirst while you eat your meal, then I suggest you sip your drinks my dear Unilocalers, it’ll take an extra 10 mins just to get a refill! You would think if you see an empty glass you might offer another, right? Wrong, and when you do ask you have to wait an eternity to get it.

I went here years and go and it’s safe to say this place has really stepped it up. Food was delicious! I had the nica burger + cajun truffle fries and chocolate chip cookie skillet for dessert. Service was great (and they were slammed!). The kitchen messed up our order but the staff apologized and took the item off the bill without us even calling it to their attention!

I ordered the Nica Burger and I have to say that is one of the best burger I have ever tried. 100% recommended. If you live in Miami you have to try it.

I had a ‘Paleo Burger’ it was the best burger I’ve ever eaten in my life. I’m not prone to hyperbole, it was just that good. I enjoyed every tasty, delectable bite. I ate the entire burger. It was juicy and flavorful down to the last bite. It came with sweet potato fries and a marshmallow dipping sauce, together they were a perfect match. I highly recommend eating here if you want a great burger. The ice cream of course was phenomenal, but that’s what they’re known for; the burger caught my surprise with its awesome flavor, juiciness and great taste.

We drove all the way from Ga for this ice cream — sticky chewy chocolate.
The service was great and the ice cream was awesome as usual!

What happened to this place? This restaurant, the delicious hang out of my youth, served up nothing but disappointment during our meal tonight.
My son’s kid’s burger was so burnt that the entire bottom portion of the burger was blackened, my lobster grilled cheese was awful, and the pulled rib sliders had a sauce that tasted so bad that it made the entire sandwich unpalatable. The service was slow and unimpressive. Though I will say that the busboy was sweet and attentive (one bright light in a dismal situation).
The saving grace of our meal was dessert. These guys still serve up some great shakes and sundaes.
The lesson learned — come here for dessert (AFTER you’ve had dinner somewhere else).

Sad, so very sad, to say they seem to have sold the place. New management brought in new menu ideas, new chef and just changed everything my family and friends LOVED about Swensen’s for over 25 years. Yes ! That long !! The wings are HORRIBLE now. I used to crave their chicken wings all the time. We used to visit almost every weekend. We swore it off. The nice waiter tried to sell us their «new and improved» wings and nica burger. I was SO disappointed when my wings came. I understand change is important but no not Swensen’s ! We may come back to have the amazing UNCHANGED super sundaes but that’s about it. :(

Okay, the crowd is unique. Very diverse. The place looks like it need major remodeling, they have one bathroom stand for the ladies. No bueno! The service was great, food came out really fast! We had the Nica Burger which was good (not to die for like some of the Unilocal reviews) and the dessert selection is endless, we had the brownie and it was very good! Price is decent and the parking sucks, we had to park in the Chase next to it, luckily for us it was a Sunday evening therefore we were able to park there.

One of my childhood favorite places. It’s nice to now take my children here. Same feel as back in the days, but with a new and improve menu. We mostly came for the ice cream on this visit but we will definitely come back to try the new menu. We had the hugs & kisses chocolate sundae, an oreo shake and my son had a vanilla scoop with sprinkles. Sundae was full of caramel and hot fudge. It didn’t not have herseys hugs as stated on menu & picture but it did have plenty of kisses. My husband said his oreo shake was great. It’s served in an old fashion tall glass and they give you the left over in the tin blender cup. Can’t wait to come back and explore the menu.

I came to Swensons last week for my first time, and wow! I was impressed! First off, I loved how they had a mini ice cream parlor inside of the restraunt! You can go look at all their flavored, and try them out as well. I had a waitress named Rachel who was very nice and funny! I got the surf n turf burger, which got my attention the minute I saw it had lobster in it! It was very fresh and went well with the burger, surprisingly. For dessert, because with a menu like that you know I had to try it! I got the very berry shortcake? I think that’s what it is called, but it had strawberries & blueberries however I didn’t get any blueberries :(that’s ok it was still delicious in a small portion perfect to fill that little bit of extra room after dinner! My cousin had the chocolate chip skillet with mint ice cream which was delicious as well! Comes out warm and fresh!

This review is a bit hard for me, since a few changes have taken place at this Swensen’s (some good, some not so good).
But let’s start with the food: I always liked the menu selection, but there was a menu change and some of my preferred dishes are gone. On one side this is disappointing, but on the other side some new concoctions came up. We tried a few, and they are very good. They taste fresh and flavorful, definitive an A+, kudos to all.
The desert menu apparently remained unchanged, which is great, the ice cream and shake items are a traditional staple of Swensen’s.
Now here are the negatives:
— The prices went up considerably. For us stopping at Swensen’s for lunch was a no-​brainer whenever we were in the area and felt hungry. Now we have to think twice, we just can’t afford it for casual mid-​day dining. But it will not prevent us from eating at Swensen’s, we just have to adapt (like asking for water instead of a soft drink, and no appetizer).
— The size of the portions appear to have shrunk a bit also. Our beloved KitKat Overload is definitively smaller. Not happy with this decision by the owners.
But let me summarize: I love the dishes at Swensen’s, and will continue to enjoy then whenever I can, and I highly recommend that you try Swensen’s if you haven’t done so already.
If the prices were lower, and the portions more generous, and not messing around with the size of the incredible desert combinations, I would give it a 5 star rating for sure.
By the way, service was always very good, but can get slow if the place is packed, which is common during weekends.

I have been here a few times and the one negative is that I think it’s a little overpriced but at least the food is delicious. I have been fortunate that every single visit here has been a success and the food, drinks and ice cream never ever disappoint. The burgers and on the fancy side, more gourmet style and the ice creams are my favorite! They have a huge selection, you are sure to find something delicious to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Finally, Swensens is back on our radar. I used to come here all the time as a kid, then drove myself since high school. I worked at AMC Bakery Centre 7 so that shows I know the place well. I even brought my wife and kids here but a few years back the menu felt boring and just didn’t do it for us. Unfortunately, we would only come for the dessert.
Now, fast forward to today and Swensens is now back on the radar. The new revamped menu is amazing. Coming back soon!

I mean WOW ! I have not been here in years but I was not expecting it to be this good! New chef and menu and he’s bringing it on! I had the NICA burger which is a ground beef patty topped with fried Latin cheese, maduros (sweet plantain), vinegar marinated cole slaw and chimichuri sauce. It came with a side of onion rings that were divine!
Everything was on point and I will definitely visit again! Nice to see this place doing so well after so many years :)

I have been coming to this restaurant for years. They have simple dishes and big portions.
I noticed that they have new menus.
I ordered the protein wrap, but I do not think that is what the waitress brought me. It was supposed to have egg and avocado, but the wrap didn’t have that inside. I found corn and beans inside. The wrap was still good and we didn’t complain about it. We were all so hungry!
My mom ordered a side of vegetables and they brought a HUGE plate full.
We were all so tempted to order ice cream, which is always delicious, but we decided not to. It wasn’t easy!!!
