Really good sushi. The sushi menu contained alot of either spicy tuna or crab… I ordered the paradise sushi roll and some sort of spicy tuna roll. My husband ordered the chirashi which was great. The chef really put a lot of thought into the presentation. Ordered three items and it cost about $ 58.

Pretty bomb ass sushi here. Service is alright. Just make sure you check your bill at the end. Had a party last time and the server decided to add a few more rolls on there. So she got that money and the $ 70 tip. Confronted her about it the next day when I saw what had happened. They are slow as well. It’s better to come here if you have time.

The sushi here was pretty good, I wish I had gotten more from the menu to base my judgment upon the sushi quality, but the sushi that I did have was well made. The hot sake did me justice, and their wine mixed with sake was also particularly pleasant. I like the individual rooms for a more intimate setting, adds a nice touch to the restaurant. The koi fish at the entrance was also a bit surprising but was a plus in the overall aesthetic factor of this restaurant.

This is a really great place. Close to the water and the the ambience is really cute — wood beams and Christmas lights. They don’t have a full bar — just wine, beer and sake. But the sushi is really great. We had the avacado bomb which was really unique and tasty and the«pacific blue» was really light and clean(sliced tuna over radish, avacado and red onion. Both unique tasty dishes.

After waiting for over an hour and half for sushi. My coworker and I finally get our rolls to only find a wad of hair in our sushi tempora rolls. The waitress was nice enough to take it back and issue us a refund for all of it but not one single manager came over to apologize. The waitress that night handled the situation the best she could and I felt bad for her having to deal with such a mess. FYI don’t ever order anything from there besides sushi to go. All you get is small portions that look like appetizers.

I really wanted to give two stars. But because my roll had good flavor and presentation, I will settle for the three stars. I had the Kamikaze Roll and my friend had the Black Dragon Roll. Both were put together well. I enjoyed the tuna and salmon in my roll and the crunch of the cucumber. I honestly I have no complaints about the overall taste of my roll. We also ordered the Hawaiian Tuna Poke. The portion was disappointing for the price of the dish. It was a little more bland than I would have expected. I think it needed a little more lime. What I really had a problem with was the service. Slow slow slow. Slow as molasses. My friend and I sat for over 30 minutes and were not approached by the server. Finally I flagged down the hostess for help. Thank god she was proactive and took our food orders or we would never have gotten any service. Both the server and hostess had good attitudes but the service was just so damn slow that I had a hard time being nice. The food took almost an hour to arrive. It took us about 10 minutes to eat our food. We were at the restaurant for two hours. Sooo… yeah. I’m hoping they were just short staffed tonight and they couldn’t help the wait time. Otherwise, give yourself plenty of time if you’re going here for dinner!

This restaurant is really good! Our waitress was very friendly and hospitable. Everything was delicious — I would recommend the champong(it’s a little spicy), wine soaked mussels, avocado bomb, volcano roll, and fire dragon roll. I thought the volcano roll was especially good because there were big chunks of crab on top, which I haven’t had on sushi before. That, along with the sauces and crunchy topping, chives, and roe made it very flavorful. The avocado bomb is filled with crab and tuna, which was very tasty with the avocado casing.

Tried Aka since it had decent reviews on Unilocal.Nice place, only real bad part is the guy a couple seats down from me sneezed into his ramen bowl, gigantic snot bomb right into the soup. And yup! He ate it all! No fault of the establishment, just a very disgusting observation i had to look at! Sushi was very fresh. Delicious. The mackerel shashimi was perfect. Great service, they have plenty of staff. I would definitely come back. So long as I am not sitting near snotty McGee!

Very nice restaurant! Doesn’t seem like much just by looking from the outside but the food and staff are great! They have lots of options on the menu. We ended up starting out with James Style Sashimi and it was delicious. We skipped their basic rolls that were between $ 5 and $ 8 since those are offered everywhere. We tried their signature rolls and I have to say the best one was the Bushido roll. It has a bit of a bite to it so only get it if you like spicy food. The Rolando roll would be the best if you don’t like spicy food.

Stopped for late lunch and saw lots of cars in front. It’s a nice and quiet restaurant with subdued atmosphere. We ordered two rolls and several pieces of sushi. Everything was delicious! I did not a see wine menu so they be dry. However the green tea was very good and perfect for lunch. For the two rolls, 6 pieces of sushi and two hot our bill was $ 53.00 before tax.

I don’t like anything with fish so when I go here I usually get the chicken or beef fried rice or chicken or beef hibachi with lots and lots of yum yum sauce & spring rolls & it is AMAZING!!! Best rice ever! All of my friends love the sushi & the apps. If you go here, you have to try the yum yum sauce… yum yum sauce = crack sauce!

I loved this place !!! I’m from Houston and I’ve had a decent amount of sushi, and I’m very picky. The moment we walked and sat by the bar the sushi chef gave us a little taste test of the sushimi. It was phenomenal. From the freshness to the presentation, to the promptness and friendly service. I will definitely be back when I’m back in town.

The sushi wasn’t anything special. Perhaps good for the area, but I wouldn’t say one of the best in the United States, as stated by another reviewer. I had the unagi roll, which was elaborate and well presented. But my main issue was the wait. The restaurant wasn’t even half full and it took 40 minutes to get my roll. I’m not sure if this is a rare occurrence, but I would rather not go back to test this out. I think you could find this same quality of sushi in other places here in Corpus.

I love Aka Sushi, I always eat at their downtown location but I’ve eaten here a few times in the last year and it’s fantastic as well. The real key to their great sushi is their use of sauce flavorings. enjoy.

We have enjoyed every meal that we’ve had here. The food is indescribably good. I can’t even do it justice. …I mean, just check out the pictures. The owners and staff are friendly and attentive. The price is fare for the quality of food and service. Experiment outside your culinary comfort range at this place. You will not be disappointed.

Aka Japanese is a fantastic Japanese bistro that has teppanyaki grills & a full service sushi bar on Everhart Road. Not to be confused with Aka Sushi on Water St. downtown. Note: They ARENOT the same business. They are completely different, serve totally different food, have a totally different style of sushi & are NOT owned by the same people. Aka Japanese is a real Japanese bistro with teppanyaki grills while Aka Sushi is just a touristy nouveau style sushi bar. Aka Japanese bistro is a must stop for hubby & I in Corpus Christi. There are only a handful of restaurants that we frequent when we visit the coast & this is our #1 choice for sushi & sashimi. Hubby & I been coming down here since b4 we got married 12 years ago. Corpus was the very first trip we ever took together so it’s very special to us. If you want the freshest seafood, expertly crafted sushi/sashimi in Corpus Christi, sit at the sushi bar & let Rolando make your sushi & sashimi for you. Your welcome :)’

Great service and food. I went to the hibachi table and had filet mignon. The chef was very good at the hibachi tricks and definitely knew what he was doing. The restaurant seemed a little outdated though.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant. .The food and service here is excellent. I love the Miso soup here… I have yet to try a better soup anywhere else. The hibachi grill is more for smaller groups. Every sushi roll I’ve tried has been great… my fave is the Mexican Roll!

Best performance from a Hibashi chef we have ever seen in the US. Great service. Food was not great but good enough. Happily surprised anyway.
