The food was sub par. Completely bland sauerkraut, dry weinerschnitzel. We order their Black Forest cake which was dry and still frozen. Waitress never checked on us for quality. Food was just slung in front of us as she walked away.

Ja Baby! Love this place! Casual atmosphere with delicious German food, beer and groceries. I’ve spent a lot of time working in Germany and Henk’s gives me taste of those days. The sauerbraten, schnitzel and kasewurst are totally on point, and my fave is the brat with kraut on a bun with mustard and a small draft lager/pilz while sitting at the bar and chatting with the friendly staff and patrons. It’s delicious and enjoyable, just like lunch in Germany, but they speak Texan.

This is probably of my favorite bakeries. We order cakes from here at least 10 times a year! All the cakes are delicious… especially the fruitcake!!! Supper nice place to eat too! The vibe is amazing and sometimes there is live music too! They also have a little grocery shop portion with amazing cookies and other European items!

This is my new favorite place to eat now. Small but mighty/delicious dishes. We started out with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every menu was awesome. Then the bakery, black forest was yummiest. Love the combination of their fruit cakes. Will definitely explore more of there dishes.

Chicken schnitzel is better than Wiener schnitzel to me. Cakes is the best. Black Forest cake is the typical of course.

Great food for a super cheap price! We both ate for $ 13. Closes at 6 each day. Diner type setting with little store/bakery/fresh meat deli. Can’t wait to check out breakfast. Friendly service.

This small but cozy gem is tucked away behind the massive half price books on Northwest Highway. The parking lot was full and space somewhat difficult to come by. Given their delicious food, I can see why. The meals were excellent and the portions perfect. I didn’t leave feeling hungry, and I didn’t leave feeling like a slob. I had the chicken schnitzel breakfast with eggs and fried potatoes. The eggs were a bit overdone for over easy, but the chicken and potatoes easily made up for it. My wife had the Weiner schnitzel and LOVED it. Said it was the first time in her life she ate pork without needing ketchup to help choke it down. My son had a French toast breakfast with sausage, and he ate the entire thing. Our biggest compliment is that the meats were delicious WITHOUT being salty. Even the sausage was tasty and mild. You would be hard pressed to find another place in Dallas that made this kind of food without making you feel like you just sucked on a salt lick. Kubys is the only other place I can think of that offers similar food of this caliber. Will definitely come here again, hopefully to try dinner. The service was friendly but really slow. I suspect you should plan on that given how busy it is. Oh yeah, and the deli looked awesome!

Hit Or Miss. Thats the best way to describe what they offer. I love the atmosphere. The love the staff. I love the music when its there. But the food is not great across the board. Maybe I would have been happier if I never tried anything beyond what was«good» I could go into great detail, but I’ll break it down simply Things I liked: Reuben Sandwich(Awesome Sandwich) Their Bakery Made Candy(They are devine) Their cookies(some of the best Ive had in the Norh Dallas area) Their apple sauce and sour cream(Enough said) Their sauerkraut(The right amount of sweet and sour) Things I Dont Like: Their Cakes(They Look Beautiful, But They Are Dry As Dirt) Their Spatzel(It wasnt crispy, it could have been jucier) The Free Bread and Pretzels(Its more mediocre than bad) Their potato cakes(they arent crispy and they have barely any flavor) The prices on the candy(really expensive) I really want to try more things, but I also dont feel too motivated to do so. I can recommend all the things I liked, but I would say stay away from what I didnt like.

One word– sauerbraten That was today’s special. Haven’t had it in years. This was wonderful and affordable. Waitress seemed surprised when I ordered it. Obviously, I don’t look German. It came with red sauerkraut and scrumptious potato dumplings. Only thing I wasn’t impressed with was the Black Forest cake. Seemed like it was from a Betty Crocker mix and lacking in the cherry sauce. It’s right across the street from HPB’s flagship store which is ultra convenient.

While visiting Dallas for a friends birthday we thought we’d stop in and pick up a cake as a surprise. Based on all the reviews we figured this would be a uniquely delicious treat. WRONG!!! Looks can be deceiving. The cake looks appetizing enough but it was very dry. It was so bad we all got tickled at just how awful it was. Everyone at the gathering said they would stay far away from this place. Maybe next time we’ll just go to Ablertson’s. I have had their cakes and they are far more superior and half the price.

Delicious Tuna Melt literally melts in my mouth good. My friend had the Brats says it’s allright. We arrived a tad early for lunch about 11& I forgot to check in LOL I’d recommend to friends & family if they’re looking for decent German /Polish fares. Good service too!!! :)

First timer to this place and it was excellent! I stopped for lunch after searching for a different place to eat for lunch. As you walk in the store and bakery are on the right, restaurant on the left and bar seating spanning both sides. I came in around 1p and it was not crowded at all. It is nicely decorated with European items… beer steins galore for decoration and they even sell wooden slippers! The place is very clean and well kept. They bring a basket mixed with pretzel sticks, bread slices, and crackers. Munched on the pretzel sticks a little bit didn’t want to eat too many. I had the grilled chicken pesto sandwich. Absolutely delicious. It came with potato chips and a pickle. When I asked about dessert the waitress pointed me to either what was in the menu or to browse their bakery and she would get it bring it to me. I browsed the bakery… boy the choices! Everything looked so good and fresh. I narrowed it down to the hazelnut cream pie. It tasted as good as looked. Creamy, hazelnutty, and yummy! If I had more time I would have ordered a small coffee to go with it. There is plenty of seating. Looks like anywhere from 1 to 6 can sit comfortably anywhere. I will recommend this place for the next work group lunch. We will have to carpool though because of the limited parking.

Henks’s European Deli is a great little gem nestled behind the Half Price Books on Northwest Highway. They have a wide variety of breakfast items including omelets, schnitzel, blintzes, crepes, and Kassler. They also do a nice variety of sandwiches including ruebens, turkey melts, tuna melts, hot pastrami, etc. along with sides like German potato salad, sauerkraut, cole slaw, potato pancakes, etc. In addition to their yummy foods available to eat in, they have a nice little European deli as well so you can take things home with you too. In addition to meats and cheeses they got some great desserts that are as second to none, including Black Forest cake, strudels, and chocolate mousse. I recommend you try this place when you are looking for something out of the ordinary from the normal chain breakfast.

My first time here was last night. This is also my first time having Wienerschnitzel. I must say right off the bat I thought the potato soup was very watery and I actually gave it back. I thought the actual schnitzel was ok and I really liked the German potato salad, but my favorite part of the meal was actually the potato pancake. There was a live accordion player and lots of great people that packed the restaurant and made for a really great environment. I just thought that the food was over rated. I tried one of the cakes and didn’t find anything special about it. All this being said I would definitely come back for lunch because I took a look at the lunch menu and it sounded way better than dinner. As far as the value, I thought it was a little overpriced.

I think the rustic feel of this place is a bit charming. And it’s nice that they offer even Sunday brunch. They have some German products, and surprisingly a good number of Dutch products too, from the Netherlands. The brunch menu seems to be pretty authentic, so I think the food is what this place is better known for, instead of the bakery. In the menu, they have the dutch, polish, and german kasher breakfast, the schnitzel, blintzes, crepes, and omelettes(some of it being dutch, german, and hungarian style). And unfortunately, I had already eaten, and I came for the bakery. The bakery itself is not really well inspired. Just a lot of cakes and maybe some danish pastries, and cookies. And the typical European pastries such as the Napoleon, and other things, were made with fluff of cake instead of puff pastries. And that just makes it look cheap, unfortunately. I ordered the fruit tart, and it was alright even though it’s a bit different. Instead of a custard or something, they used whipped cream. And the fruits on top had a lot of syrup — but the fruits(except the strawberry, for some odd reason) were good. The crust was my favorite part. But, like I said, the pastries feel a bit cheaply made. They did have loaves of bread, although not of a wide variety of German breads like the ones I saw at Breadhaus in Grapevine(which doesn’t even have that much of a variety). And you can also forget about getting a good cup of coffee here with the pastries. They’re all American-style drip coffee that you normally can find in any old-school American diner. As far as groceries go, they’re pretty decent. I think the German grocery store in Colleyville is much better stocked, and has more variety of goods. But if you don’t want to make the hike, then this is good enough too although they were missing some brands and even seafood products that I found in Colleyville. All in all, I wouldn’t mind returning, but just for the restaurant component of this business. The grocery and bakery component of the business are not worth it.

I had never come in before and was picking some yummies for my mother while being in the area(I live about an hour away). Lets just say, although the shelves were filled with treats and food from my youth… The customer service is enough of a turn off to never want to come back. We started by asking the cashier where to find the items on our list. She picked up the phone and contacted one of the women standing near the back of the room. She screams in response across the room. Needless to say I have never gone somewhere and felt like such an inconvenience and such an annoyance. She proceeded to sigh in annoyance and roll her eyes at us when we tried to figure out what we wanted. I might be back, but if I see her… I’ll turn around and leave.

Only $ 35 for a ginormous, awesome Black Forest cake?! Holy shoot is this place awesome! Combine that with the German beer hall feel, great grocery store, and awesome food, this place is an instant classic. Love it!

Homey? Foreign? Friendly? What do these words have to describe? Henk’s European Deli of course! This was an out of nowhere type place in the city of Dallas in my opinion and yet it stood out so much due to the vibe it gave off. I was hanging out with some people in Dallas and looked up a place to grab a cake for dinner time at home for my Dad’s birthday. Can you believe that there really is no place in Dallas that has good cakes?(I mean at least I didn’t find one that is) I searched up cakes on Unilocal and stumbled upon Henk’s European Deli and at first I was a bit skeptical, but it was honestly the only place with decent looking cakes, according to the pictures, and with great reviews. So I decided to scope the place out and holy moly I was blown away! First off, we were there around 8pm-9pm so the parking spots in the area was PACKED! We managed to find one of course and proceeded to walk into the store.(Totally different from what I imagined it to be) First thing we saw was a dimly lit place PACKED with people laughing and drinking and having what seems like an awesome Saturday night with a bunch of friends and family. It was a really nice vibe and on the right side you have a tiny little market filled with all sorts of awesome European snacks(chocolates, biscuits and etc). Once you walk through the aisles you’ll notice the bakery in the back(sadly since we came late at night most of the cakes were gone) and we picked out a cake and got home. So a little about the cakes itself, they look very«homemaded» so don’t expect gourmet cakes to be there. The cake we got was $ 25 and it had a lot of fruits in it. Not super sweet, which I like, and they didn’t get stingy with the fruits at all. The inside was chock full with pineapples and it was layered with fruits of all kind. I really enjoyed eating it and so did the rest of the family. Oh and let’s not forget about customer service, everyone was very nice and were family friendly folks, even the customers dining were friendly enough to start talking to you while you’re in line. In general I really digged the vibe in the place and actually wished I was the one dining there enjoying the mood myself! So if you’re not looking for a SUPERPRETTY gourmet type cake, this is definitely an awesome place to hit up or even looking for some exotic European snacks. They offer a really nice homey environment I think a lot of people will enjoy.

I couldn’t be happier with Henk’s and can’t believe it’s my first time! Most customers are regulars here(confirmed by waitress). There are weekly specials for meals-today was meatloaf. T FOOD:I got the Kasewurst(spicy smoked sausage with cheese) because cheese is everything. For lunch, it came with potato salad and sauerkraut– which I’m still trying to be a fan of. The plate cost me $ 8.50 and you can get a «half size» for about a dollar cheaper. I’m guessing it’s only one sausage instead of two but it depends on what you’re wanting to stomach! When I cut the Wurst, the cheese oozed out… It was amazing. It’s on the thicker side so it fills you up! BIER: 3.75 for 12oz. What more do you need? Wheat beer, that’s what you need. OTHERHALFOFTHESTORE: there’s a cute deli/mini grocery store on the right side when you walk in. There are German sweets and starches(and I’m guessing Dutch since there were so many Amsterdam things around) that everyone needs to get. I laid my eyes on Waffeletten and scooped that up. Tons and tons of chocolate! PARKING: there’s more parking beside the other restaurant. Henks parking space is a little small. I’ll be back soon! I love this place and how homey and price conscious it is.

Came here on a whim yesterday after getting a hankering for corned beef. I had researched the menu beforehand, and was a little disappointed when I discovered that Sundays it’s mostly breakfast available even though they’re open until 3 pm. There’s a few sandwiches, and I almost got one, until I noticed that the international omelette came with two sides so I could try the potatoes and the biscuits. For 8.50 it was SO much food. Everything was delicious. My boyfriend got the French toast and it was gone in under a couple of minutes. The waitress was great and overheard us talking about getting black Forrest cake, as it is my boyfriends birthday and it’s his favorite. She suggested we go to he other side of the store because they have a wider variety of desserts. They had whole cakes for sale, which was perfect and saved me a trip the next day for a birthday cake. The staff was friendly and the girl offered to write on the cake to make it personalized. I will definitely be coming back some day for lunch… and probably more cake. Kind staff, great food.
