If you like BBQ, come here The only reason I haven’t given it more stars= hours of operation. Very limited The place is small but the patio area is pretty convenient if you don’t want to sit inside with the crowd However the food is great

We were looking for a good bbq near the DWA area and Unilocal led us to Mike’s. The bbq was great! This was by far the best one we’ve been while on vacation in Dallas. We even purchased a couple of bbq sauce to take home with us to California.

pretty cool place some times you go out to eat and when you ask a question to one of the employees they look like a deer in the head lights, and they just want to get you in and out as soon as possible not here the guy at the counter was answering questions and suggesting things to try I like that you walk in go right up the counter tell the guy what meat or meats you want then chose your sides cafeteria style serving line, reminds me of how dickeys bbq does it the building looked like a pizza inn if you remember those Anyway food wasn’t bad place was clean and prices seemed to be right on with all the other bbq places we go to

Fantastic authentic TXBBQ. I’ve been smoking Brisket for 20 yrs.(a passion of mine) trying different rubs, woods,‘etc. this place does it extremely well and the Ribs are excellent too. Very tender. Try the cheesy corn bread side.

The three amigo’s hit this place up last week, and am sorry to say came away uniformly underwhelmed. Food & Value: not sure if they were having an off day, or if Mike just needs to up his game. Brisket had hardly any detectable flavor(just a wisp of smoke), and the ribs were only marginally better. Atmosphere & Location: casual beyond casual. Not a place I’d go dressed up, not to mention parking is a nightmare.

I needed BBQ, but wanted to save a visit to The Slow Bone for when my coworker had arrived in town. SO I came here solo, and went with a Frito Pie to drown my lonely sorrows. Pretty good — a mix of normal and chili cheese Fritos, with good chopped brisket and good savory beans on top. Brisket could have had a bit more smoke maybe, but was nice and tender with good flavor. Really pretty enjoyable. I probably should have tried something that gave me a little better indication of the BBQ, but I would definitely go back if given a chance. One fun note — I couldn’t resist the pineapple cherry cobbler — which was excellent — and as the gentleman was dishing up the absurd helping, I told him«whoa, that’s plenty.» His response? «Nope — you’re getting your $ 3 worth.» Love it.

Mike Anderson’s is as solid of a Texas BBQ joint as you are going to find. This is where I bring out of town guests for BBQ. Everything about it is great, from the meats(my favorites being brisket and ribs, the smokiness and tenderness is awesome), to the sides(cheesy corn bake obviously, but don’t forget the fried taters, baked beans, fried okra… well all of the sides are also awesome), and the people are always friendly. Mike himself is usually serving up the ‘cue, and it’s always fun talking BBQ with him(he will give you some good recommendations for anywhere in Texas if you ask). I got married recently and we had Mike Anderson’s cater our wedding, and they did a phenomenal job. We wanted to make sure out of town people got some good Texas BBQ, and Mike Anderson’s hit the spot. Everybody loved it! If you want a solid BBQ meal for a reasonable price(heck, my wife and I can split a dinner plate there is so much food!), Mike Anderson’s does not disappoint. Also, BYOB!

Stopped in for an early lunch this week. Got behind 12 dudes from Southwest Airlines so I was worried but the line moved so quickly. Cafeteria style where you order your meat and then self-serve your sides. Got the brisket sandwich and they asked sliced or chopped. I chose chopped and it would have been good either way. Snagged some beans with meat and chessey mashed taters– can’t go wrong. Washed it down with a sweet tea and had some warm cherry cobbler for dessert. Heaven. I ate half the cobbler. Would have loved to try more things but had to make a choice. Everything looked wonderful. Great service.

OMG! What can I say?! I came here all the way from California and I wanted to order everything on the menu! The owner saw that I was undecided, so he allowed me to get 2 spare ribs along with my monster loaded baked potato which I added pulled pork too! I like the cafeteria style concept, you get on and out quick and seat yourself, the ribs were amazing and the loaded potato was great as well! I was full and happy when I left!

I spent the morning reading reviews between Mike Anderson’s and sonny bryants. Each had something I thought would be interesting and each had something that made me unsure. It is a buffet style service so you walk up to the beginning with a tray and no instructions and order something. Turns out they put the meat you ordered in a three place plate and then you get your own sides as you walk on down the way. There were small bowls available to use which I did because I didn’t realize the program when I walked up. At the end, there is some disorganized method of paying but that may have been because we were pretty early in the lunch part of the day. They have two bbq sauces, a regular sauce and one that was supposed to be more spicy. looked like they just added red pepper flakes to the other one to make it. It wasn’t that impressive to me. I got the three meat selection with pulled pork, brisket and a sausage link. Lots of meat and I certainly couldn’t finish it. I concentrated on finishing the cole slaw because i knew it wouldn’t travel well and I like cole slaw. Took some meat home but didn’t eat it. My friend got the baked potato loaded. It was huge, pretty good, and as someone else had said(which i forgot at the time) would benefit from more butter. I think it was in the $ 11 range and you won’t leave hungry. I think my three stars is based mostly on failing to meet my flavor expectation. It is very convenient to the medical buildings and it filled up fast. Free ice cream cone at the end. At the time, if you did something on Facebook, it popped up something to get you a free drink. We had no trouble parking. Seems like we drove through a separate lot while leave and if it was theirs then they have plenty of parking. There was a large covered outdoor area that looked nice but we didn’t see anyone going out there.

I saw the great reviews and decided to try Mike’s. I had the 3 meat plate with chicken, turkey and brisket. The brisket was a little dry with no real flavor, the turkey was moist with no seasoning, and the chicken was moist with little seasoning and a citrus aftertaste. All in all it’s good bbq with traditional bland sides. Most will enjoy this place but it wasn’t worth the wait in line especially considering it’s cafeteria style ordering. I’d visit again if it was the convenient place to eat. I give it a 3.7 star rating.

Excellent BBQ with good choices. It is a busy place and they close very early so there was a little pressure to rush through line which I didn’t like. Also, there was some kind of object in my wife’s okra, which the owner tried to pick away without us noticing as he rang up the bill, but my wife saw him. The cook came and sincerely and thoroughly apologized and the owner slightly discounted the meal. It was all very sincerely done and felt that way. The staff locked up and told us to take as long as we needed to finish, but you could tell the workers were ready to zip. I would visit again, but not so close to quitting time. :-)

Spudzilla! The reason I went there and the reason I have been avoiding it for lunch. Co-workers finally dragged me there and it was everything I expected. Good BBQ on top of a loaded baked potato ~ how can you go wrong? Only piece missing was a cot at my office after this monster lunch, hence the reason I avoided for so long. If you are looking for a no frills fill-up joint for lunch, this is the place to go. Huge portions fit for two meals and a hole in the wall atmosphere. If you want to really get aggressive pile on the free soft serve after downing your 2lb plate of food. 3-star because there is much better BBQ in town and the atmosphere is average.

«C» average BBQ ribs, «D» average attitude. Being from California I was expecting to find the holy grail of BBQ in Texas. After going to the God awful Dickies last trip I figured Texas did not know what BBQ is. I did a lot of homework and if you could not get into Pecon Lodge, which sells out in 3 hours, then Mike Andersons. Rated 114 in the top list in Texas, BBQ ribs were dry, sauce was OK, attitude sucked!!! Do t waste your time, anywhere is better!!!

Mike Anderson’s, AKA«The Barbecue Joint next to the Hospital.» Everything is bigger in Texas, especially the Big D(Dallas). I was told I could find barbecue pretty much anywhere in Dallas. When I found out this even applies to near hospitals, I had a sudden and strange urge for BBQ. Also remembered FREESOFTSERVE at the restaurant, so definitely kid friendly and a complete meal. And this is where I tell you that I left the hospital for BBQ. The Food: I had the BBQ beef brisket sandwich and the Monster Baked Potato(God Bless this country). BBQ Brisket Sandwich: Consisted of a FISTFUL of sweet BBQ Beef Brisket, mashed potatoes, and baked beans. I added jalapenos, red onion, and banana peppers to spice it up and get my veggies. Overall, very meaty and filling. BBQ sauce was somewhat lacking and felt like it was missing a complex smokiness or signature taste that would make me remember it(–1 star). The brisket was satisfying, but tasted somewhat bland. I was missing the smoky and earthy flavor, the burn and char in my mouth that characterizes BBQ(–1 star). I am particularly picky about my BBQ; I want something that I cannot recreate at home, something that I know I cannot make no matter how hard I try, something with a secret spice blend, rub, or sauce, something particular and unique. This BBQ Brisket sandwich didn’t do it for me. Maybe the ribs, maybe next time. Monster Baked Potato: Really felt like Idaho saves special large spuds for Mike Anderson’s. I swear the potatoes looked bigger before, but maybe I was hallucinating. The Monster Potato contained cheddar cheese, green onion, BACON, BBQ sauce, sour cream, and butter. Overall very hardy and filling. Potato was fluffy and complemented well with the toppings. The secret has to be the butter, so make sure you get off your diet if you want the full experience. Paula Deen strongly recommends. Vegetarians would love this minus the bacon, plus the BBQ sauce. The Verdict: BBQ Brisket was missing on taste/flavor and originality, but was definitely filling and hearty. The Monster Baked Potato was very filling; definitely get it with all the toppings, including the Paula Deen special sauce(butter). Great for work lunch and free soft serve. I will be back to try the other meat options.

Barbecue was 5 star the condiments where not I went here for lunch and had a pulled pork sandwich coleslaw and deviled eggs. The meet was tender the sauce had great flavor but the coleslaw was very bland and the eggs were disgusting they looked so good but had no flavor at all!!! the man checking us out was less than happy to be there not the most friendly person. They were really busy next time I will probably just have a bag of chips with my sandwich. The baked potatoes looked really good but really big!!! You might want to share one with a friend. Anyway go check it out but just know I told you so and try the jalepeno BBQ sauce.

It’s still the same 10 years later. I’m from Alabama, but somehow discovered this place on my first visit to the Big D. I really can’t find enough superlatives for their meats or sides. This time I got a plate with brisket, beef hot link, smoked chicken, cheesy corn bake, and garlic cheddar mashed potatoes. My taste buds thanked me, but my waistline is still screaming. The brisket was perfectly smoky and moist, as was the chicken. I’d never had a hot link, but I’d imagine this is as good as they come. The sides needed no improvement either, right down to the Texas toast and the free old-school soft-serve ice cream cone. Try the Texas strawberry for a blazing morsel of amazing flavor!

Let’s get this straight. You come here for the food and the family style experience the super authentic Texas/Southern way(depending on what you fancy). This place is not meant the be pretty. So yes, you’ll probably wait in line a bit and the interior will have a bit of a worn rugged look… HOWEVER!!! You come here for the food… and the food… from the brisket to the ribs are a mind blowing experience. Even the simple slides like Okra and mac are cooked to perfection(as in loaded with flavor and not a grease ooze). I was even suspicious of the cobbler since it was scooped, but that was still super warm and hearty. Looking back, I felt guilty because I was catching up with an old friend and we stayed for 90 min or so. However, this is a family place, and there was no rush or anything on us.

I was not really impressed by this place. After reading the reviews, I knew that the meat was not the strongest point with Mike Anderson’s BBQ House, but I was truly shocked when I had to forcibly cut the brisket with a knife. It was more like tri-tip rather than the other brisket I had in Texas. The restaurant itself is located close to downtown Dallas near Love Field and has a nice barbecue joint interior. The line was long, but not overwhelming. I chose the three meat combo with brisket, ribs, and jalapeño sausage with garlic cheddar mashed potatoes, old school beans, and banana pudding. The sides are much better than the meat, with the beans and pudding tasting very good. Unfortunately, the meat was just a problem. The ribs lacked much flavor, and the brisket was just not there. The sauce was OK, but nothing really special. I did like the jalapeño cheddar sausage. Overall, it is not really a bad barbecue place, but it pales in comparison to the other options readily available in the DFW area.

BAD Customer service can kill a place!!! My coworkers and I have ordered from Mike’s several times. It’s been our go-to for barbecue. We have even had a couple of HUGE orders to feed everyone at our monthly potluck birthday spread. The food and service has always been great in the past. Today, however, things changed unfortunately. 5 of us called in a group order to be picked up. The older lady that usually answers the phone must have been out/busy because someone else took the order. Less than 2 minutes later, one of the orderers realized they put sour cream on the baked potatos and called to ask that it be left off. They were told«that’s how it comes, you’ll have to eat it that way». Ummm, no… that is NOT how you treat a customer. After the caller said that was bad customer service, the woman stated that was«too bad». Two of the people ended up calling and cancelling their orders they were so upset about the bad customer service. When the person got there to pick up the order for the remaining 3 people, the«manager» inquired about why the other people had cancelled. After he was told what happened, he complained that people changing their order cost him money and told them that there are plenty of barbecue restaurants around the area to order from. Well, sir, you are correct. Unfortunately, you just caused Mike Anderson’s barbecue to lose the business of so many people. We will gladly take our business elsewhere and spend our hard-earned money at an establishment that appreciates it’s customers and treats them well. You just lost so much $$$$ over what? A teaspoon of sour cream on a potato???

Stopped by Mike Anderson’s BBQ for lunch yesterday. There was a huge lineup out the front door so be warned. Inside is a cafeteria style wood paneled restaurant with lots of great sides to choose from. I had the brisket sandwich with taters and BBQ beans as sides. Lunch was filling and I liked their BBQ sauce. I’d rated this place as an above average BBQ place. Not the best I’ve ever had but pretty decent.

This was our second bbq spot in Dallas(we wanted to go here first because of its high reviews on Unilocal but it was closed at the time so we headed to smokey johns). After trying(and LOVING) smokey johns we came back to mike’s the next day to do a taste test in comparison. We got the pulled pork, ribs and brisket. The pulled pork was delicious. The brisket was lean, dry and with little flavor. The sides were awesome. We had garlic and cheddar smashed potatoes and corn, jalapeños and cheese casserole. The complimentary soft serve was nice, as well as grandma sitting there taking pick up orders. We were spoiled going to Smokey Johns first-If I had to choose only one bbq place they would be my choice.

I’ve traveled all over Texas in search of good bbq, but I try not to be snooty. Mike Anderson’s is not the best bbq I’ve had, but is a wonderful place for what it is… a well rounded bbq joint. Often, top tier bbq places will be meat rich, but sides poor. This makes for a great meat fest, but not exactly a go-to spot for a routine lunch. The sides at mike andersons are incredible… and there is a good selection of items. They pair well with the meat and, overall, make for a great lunch. For a cafeteria type bbq place(think Dickeys), I would expect them to be open for dinner as well. But, they are only open for lunch, and closed Sunday’s. Oh, free soft serve!

Mike serves up solid BBQ with excellent side options. We stopped in for lunch and I had brisket and ribs. The brisket was good, though not marble-y enough for my liking. I like my brisket a little fatty so that it melts in my mouth. The brisket was still good though. Really, I think that the ribs are the stars at this place. I feel like the ribs I’ve had in town are usually hit or miss with more miss than hit. Mike’s ribs are a nice balance between flavor, smoke and tenderness. They could be more«fall of the bone» but they’re still quite tender. As far as sides go, we loved the«Cheesy Mashed Taters» and the«Cheesy Corn Bake.»

Quality has dropped badly today: maybe this has been going on for a while, I haven’t been here in quite some time. Ribs were bland and tasteless: brisket tasted like roast beef, pulled pork was horrible. What happened? Hope it’s a fluke, OMG! This food sucks.

For my third trip in Dallas, I wanted to try another bbq place. Thanks to Unilocal,I was able to find this place. It was hard to determine the 3 meats selection and 2 sides, so I also checked Unilocal for the reviews. Got the brisket, jalapeño links and ribs. I like the links the most, then the ribs then the brisket. The jalapeño bbq sauce was really spicy for me. The cron bread was really cheesy but I couldn’t finish it after order 3 meats! The beans with sausage was also really good, too sweet for me. The ends of the links are put inh here so it’s the same taste as the beef or pork link. I also got the sweet tea which made the spicy jalapeño bbq sauce easier to take. This brings back the good old southern bbq that I miss while living in Georgia #bbqcavingssatisfied

I went to Mike Anderson’s BBQ, a true Texas BBQ is what they call it. I got myself a pulled pork sandwich with a side of mashed potato and coleslaw. I had to get some green in me for this heavy Texas lunch. This pulled pork sandwich made me speechless. I ate it slowly so I could enjoy every bite of it because the pulled pork was so juicy and sweet! I said to my friend Anna, «I’m really sad that this is my last bite. I don’t want it to end. I almost want to get another pulled pork sandwich.» Word for word that is what I said and I meant it! I’ve never had this kind of emotion before in regards to food! Obviously, I wasn’t going to get another sandwich even though it was really tempting. I knew I would regret it. Luckily, there was ice cream to cheer me up! Did I tell you that it was FREE ice cream? It’s like KBBQ restaurants in southern California where they always give you free ice cream at the end! Ice cream was a perfect way to end my lunch. I was sad again when I had to take the last bite of my ice cream. I definitely want to come back here when I’m in Dallas again. Maybe I’ll get two pulled pork sandwiches next time! Note to everyone: Don’t wear nice clothes when you go here. You will smell. I repeat, you will smell.
